Abusive posters

I'm reading numerous threads on which ppl r jus straight bashing pro players... I may be critical r even harsh at times but i never forget that the players r pro's and deserve respect 4 their abilities...

But i am disgusted by those who r completely blinded by their bias and knock the players they don't like and their achievements...

For instance: i rip on nadal at times but the fact is: he is an incredibly gifted athlete, he has a game 2 rival the best and he's still young(whether that proves 2 b an advantage r disadvantage...???)

But sum ppl will jus make fun of him r other players, what frame of mind r these minority of posters in...???

Any thoughts???

I hear exactly where you are coming from. The only reason I haven't posted something along these lines is the message won't get through to them. I especially hate the Federer Haters who resort to Nadal as the last hope.

True, but Fed haters are insignificant in comparison with the amount of Nadal haters. I don´t like haters. There is a difference between dislike and hate.

Yeah but there are more "possible reasons" to hate Nadal than Federer, that's why it p***s me off so much when you see a thread like "Federer said the S word what a baddy"

all things that good players do r blown out of proportion, they r all human and tempers will get fraid and things will b said, ppl will get defencive and get frustrated... But god forbid if nadal, fed, roddick...etc Do anything, cause they get hung 4 it...

Nobody hates these players.

Some of us simply refuse to exalt them, and thus call them out for the same sort of crap one would criticize any person under discussion for. Holing up with men secretly in one's hotel room and claiming it's a Playstation party; wearing women's clothing like capris onto the court for a public appearance; failing to maximize one's abilities at one's chosen craft by, for example, reducing oneself to a one-surface wonder with legitimate slam aspirations only on the dirt; engaging in activity and showing physical and psychological signs suggesting less-than-above-board nutritional choices; open and obvious flaunting of the rules on court; etc.

These are all perfectly reasonable things to question, if you happen to be a fan of tennis. If a person happens to know a player that embodies some or all of these qualities, and then declares those pointing them out to be "haters," I suggest that person step back and look objectively. Perhaps he is holding his idols up as exemplars, when in fact objectively, they may simply be greaseball cheat-monkeys.

Also, please stop using numbers and things like "ppl" and "jus" to convey your message. That got old in the 90's, and now just makes you look silly.

I prefer 'lack of respect'. I don't hate any tennis player - but there are some I don't respect - either for their (IMHO) poor behavior or lack of a well rounded game (despite the availability of world class training they got).

Wayne, I agree with Grimjack too - this isn't Text Messaging. Your posts will be ignored by many if you continue to use the "ur, 4, pls"... - your decision. Typing is good for you - manual dexterity, keeps your brain sharp, etc...

You know, the only players I've been happy to knock are Hewitt, the ignorant racist, and Kiefer because he constantly defines himself through his disgusting conduct on the court. I instinctively want these guys to just go away and stop mucking up our great sport, but they reap the benefits of playing among those who are more tolerant and forgiving than myself. Hmm, maybe they provide the stark contrast that makes me respect the class acts in the pro ranks even more, but I suppose I'd respect the officials and tourney directors a little more if they'd at least issue symbolic slaps on the wrist when players decide to act like bad humans.

Sorry for bordering on the abusive; I think opinions are good things and I believe it's up to all of us to promote the good etiquette and positive attitudes that make tennis truly special among sports. Good thread!

Grimjack & WestCoast,

I'm with you on the SMS style typing.

Also, just a little more on word usage. I see a lot of "your" which was intended to mean "you're". Some may find it a casual usage on a webboard, but improper language usage can become a habit.

My 2 cents.

I'm with you. The 'your' and 'you're' have become so widely screwed up I almost expect it now. I have a friend who still can't get 'then' and 'than' straight - pointed it out and told him that when doing proposals at his Fortune 100 job, it doesn't look good (especially for someone who makes sure everyone knows he has a BS, MS, and MBA) - but he still does it.

I concur. When I read the post I totally ignored its contents because the SMS style typing annoys me.

i for one do not bash or hate any pro players...but i also dislike those who just make rude comments and assumptions, future predictions....like nadalgirl26,

they are maybe funny the first time, but after that its just pathetic and they are spamming the boards

also, text message slang is not really desired, at least by me, on the boards...

but of course some things like imo and btw are just normal

Some of these Nadal haters are way out of control. Hoping Nadal gets injured or dying in a plane accident. Some of these people need to be banned. I can't believe some of the things people get away with on this board. I don't root for Federer but I don't take it that far.

my problem isnt with haters but people who say they can do something better than a top ten player now or in the past. one guy argued with me that he could beat courier in a backhand rally. also those who say that any of the top players shots are weak. it maybe weak to the other top players but to a normal player its incredible.

Well I hate all of them, and I only like Becker!..

nooooooooo, not him. The Boris one!.....

oops.. Did I just say that out aloud just now?

Actually no one deserves respect for playing a game for a living. It's a sport. It's not that big a deal. People need to stop worshipping celebrities and athletes.

You shouldn't be making fun of anyone by the way. Do unto others. But being a good athlete does not deserve respect.

I disagree. To be self-motivated like that is amazing. I admire the heart these players play with. Safin is maybe the exception to that though. lol

You should meet somebody with an actual job. Find a coal miner or a police man to admire.

Well dead end jobs that don't offer much while putting a lot of stress on you not something you should put yourself through. That is why it is best to prepare early like these tennis players did. People can put down tennis players but I doubt they could put the same dedication to tennis as these pros do and at an such a early age.

Most of them are from priviledged families and have the luxury of top notch coaching and plenty of court time.

Regular people don't have it so good and have to work hard just to get a dead end job. And still they go out every day and do the job the best they can to provide for their families. These are the people you should look up to.

You may not quite know what it's like to not have everything just given to you. It's understandable.

They may be from privileged families, but they all bust their chops out there on the court. Its hot, it is drudgery and it is huge stress. Having done it. Venetian, you make me laugh.

Oh yeah becuase you can totally compare playing a 5 setter to running into a burning building and pulling out children who are inches away from dying or playing tennis in 35C heat to fighting the bushfire around my town which took 9 lives. Tennis is no where near as hard as what those fire fighter go through.

If you are going to admire someone for heart, think about those guys who are out their everyday saving your ass. Soldiers, police men, firemen and rescue crews.

The point is not what's more important but how exhausting it is to prepare and train to get to a professional athlete. As important as it is to have Soldiers, police men, firemen, and rescue crews more people are able to do it than are of people that make the Tour. I'm pretty sure that playing the matches is the easy part compared to some of the training routines out there.

nope. as hard as some of the training is the stress you get in a pro match is very high. ive had to run till i almost passed out and still thought that was easier than a competitive match.

Good call man. There are so many priviledged people in our society that will never understand this kind of thinking.

I have commented in the past that, at times, you'd think many posters simply don't enjoy the game cause they are so preoccupied with disliking players. (Although keifer is beneath contempt; sorry for the negative slipping in).

Very well said and I couldn't agree more!! Win a grand slam and you have my appreciation and perhaps a little adoration - save a life and you have my respect. There is no comparison to the two no matter how hard anyone tries to claim it is more difficult to take Nadal out in the fifth set - try crawling through 1000+ degree heat on your hands and knees with 80 lbs of equipment on trying to search in the pitch black for a baby or even better, ducking bullets every night on the streets of some God-forsaken ghetto street trying to save a bunch of ingrates from the hands of rival gang shoot-outs. Hmm...yeah, "but it was hot and Nadal's forehand was intense." ROTFLMFAO!! One is entertainment and the other pure heroism.
