After Wimbledon, will Fed's GS tally be three or only two times Nadal's?

What will Fed and Nadal's GS tally look like after Wimbledon?

Just realised - Fed on 16 and Nadal on 6.

There's a chance, that after Wimbledon - that number could be 18-6 or 16-8.

In fact, there are 6 possible permutations. Take your pick now which way it'll end up....

For now, I'd take Nadal in Paris and Roger at SW19...

Really depends on the FO tuneups for Rafa though...He needs to win a title badly.

Agreed, it'd be hard to see him winning the french without getting a bit of a significant roll going at a leadup (and thus also beating some top-10-ers in the process). He seems to be very much a momentum player....

For now I'm gonna say Fed 17 - Nadal 6 (Fed wins one, Nadal none), with Fed winning Wimbledon.

Nadal just might win the FO this year but at this moment for me its a 'no' as I want to see how well he does at the 1000's. If he doesn't win at least two clay court tournaments before the French I can't see a possibility of him winning it.

roger may not be a shoe-in...his form has been worse than nadal's.

i would say both are pretty vulnerable.

roger only has votes because he won the AO. other than that, he's been worse than nadal.

The only interesting thing about this thread is that the majority so far are saying Nadal will not win FO, which has been my prediction for sometime.

Let's see how he does at MCarlo, for the sake of his fans I hope he can give them something, finally.

I'd say one each, althought the second most likely possibility I would think is Nadal 2, Fed 0. I don't see Fed beating Nadal in RG, but Nadal beating Fed at Wimby is possible.

Nadal is not the same player as 2008 or even 2007 at all. I would be amazed if he won Wimbledon, far more amazed than Federer himself or someone other than Nadal winning the French. Federer isnt even Nadals toughest head to head opponent, so Federer does not have to be the one to beat Nadal at either event (and he would beat him if they did play at Wimbledon this year I think anyway).

I can see where you're coming from. I would also expect Fed to win Wimby more than Nadal, but I think my original point was (which may not have come across particularly clearly) that I think it would be less of a shock for me to see Nadal win Wimby than Fed win RG. That's all.

Hmm, based on the last 12 months, I think the greater shock would be the other way around. I'd be somewhat shocked if Nadal wins 7 in a row at either, and not so much if Fed does.

After all, Nadal hasn't been to a slam final since January last year, and Fed's been to every final and won three of them.

fed's winning both, you heard it here first, say what you want, come french open they'll be meeting in the final, and wimbledon as well.

Nadal has not looked like himself since this time last year. Hopefully he can get his mojo back on the clay...

Being the usual conservative person I am (in regards to betting) I will go with the each wins one. Rafa takes FO, Fed takes Wimby.

Mark my words. Im like Nostradamus when it comes to this. My gut feeling is that its gonna be 2 times. Nadal will win the french and wimbledon. So its gonna be 16-8.

Well, plenty of people are laying down a mark in the sand here (should that be clay or grass? ;)).

If fed does end up 3 times, it makes Nadal look somewhat insignificant, and even Sampras starts to pale by comparison.

Flip-side, If it ends up only 2 times, it means Nadal extends his clay legend, and gets another Wimbledon, which goes more to prove that he's not just a clay hero, and more of an all-round legend. 8 slams would also move him into some rare-air.

Plenty at stake here....

Nadal has already proven that he is an all court player even though he is best on clay. Reaching three grass court finals at wimby and winning the third one (losing the other two to one of the best players of all time on grass) winning the aussie open, beijing olympics (which are played on decoturf, same surface as the us open), indian wells, montreal, queens etc. Nadal is no longer considered a specialist on clay but an all court player. He has already proven that he is not just a clay hero.

french is much harder, as need to see how both are playing in the run-up to it. impossible to call atm, as we haven't seen nadal on the red stuff yet and fed has been in poor form as of late. rafa seems to have stuttered a bit in the last two tourneys, in both semi losses. i think he will get confidence from playing back on clay again, and see him taking at least one title. if fed can make a final or two at least then it should give him enough, as he always ups his game for the slams. wimby, i think fed is much more of a shoe-in than nadal. much more confidence, defending champion and favoured surface, so i see him at least in the finals. it depends though how rafa performs on the clay, which will decide his form going into wimby. but i dont see him picking up both really. so i guess its gonna be either 17-7 or 18-6

I vote for the restoration of the 2005/06/07 statu quo.

I also think that Nadal will dominate the clay season and that most of you are blinded by his recent results, which haven't even been bad.

I take your point, but at the slam level, he really hasn't cemented the deal. 2/3rds of his slams come on clay, and he hasn't yet made a USO Final, let alone won it, and has really had the one massive success at the AO.

Another wimbledon win, or a USO win later, would go a lot further to cementing him as an all-court player (at the all-time level).

that is a scary thought though, nadal at 8 slams so young?

It is.

That said, it's usually recognised that the great players have a certain period of excellence (maybe 5 or so years), whenever it may occur in their careers. Agassi is an obvious exception to this rule, but on the whole, whether they excel early or late, most greats tend to have a period of dominance.

Such a period is especially usually noticed in the clay-court greats, as they have a very gruelling focus. Put another way, I don't think you'd find too many people, based on his current & recent health, who would be betting Nadal will be dominating any surface in 5 years time.

true, but still those were quality wins, mostly against federer, and when it's all said and done, that will count a lot for nadal, maybe top 10 all time

It is getting harder and harder for them to get thru the current field, and neither one has the "invincibility" thing going for them anymore, which use to be a huge factor for them in winning matches.

Fed still has the invinc factor in slams....but you know that.

LOOOL... Judging by your posts so far, a certain number of which were troll posts, I am not going to take your word for anything.

Neither one will win the French or Wimbledon.

Who do you think will win then?
