It's interesting that these two have roots in the same region of the world. If I remember right, Aggassi's heritage is Iranian and Baghdatis is from Cyprus.

Anyways. I do think Andre will have a chance against him. I know Baghdatis is powerful and moves well, but I just don't see what he's got that Andre can't handle. I think it will go much like the Pavel match, with Andre struggling to find a chink in the armor, and then capitalizing on it. The crowd may very well be a factor again and I think Baghdatis will be bothered by it moreso than Pavel was.

Maybe I'll be eating my words tomorrow, and it won't be the first time, but I predict Aggassi in 4 sets.

I agree. If AA is on, I don't see Baghdatis hurting him off the ground. Hopefully it is a great match regardless of the outcome.

People are acting as if Baghdatis has it in the bag (no pun). I don't see how they can say that. If the true Andre comes out, it's over for Bags. Andre is over the first match hump and now he's looser. He's had two days to recover and it's on tonight.

It should be an electric match. Baghdatis has yet to show up on the hardcourts and has never done well in his previous trips to New York. Andre's back might be an issue but given that he just had the cortizone shot hopefully it'll be loose for tonight.

If Agassi can get off to a strong start and keep the points short I like his chances but it's likely to go four or five. Taking his back out of the equation b/c no one knows how it's going to respond, his first round match with Pavel came down to fitness. Bags has never been in top condition and if it comes down to that AA has the edge.

Andre can win this match because Bags can be erractic, especially with his serve. If that Bags comes out, then Agassi, if the Bags plays very wel and serves well, then i have Bags winning in 4 sets.

Unfortunately for us fans this might be the last time Agassi plays. Considering the mobility Agassi has shown in his first round match and playing against a better opponent tonight, his chance of winning is low.

Andre said he could barely walk after his match with Pavel, his back was hurting so bad. He had to go to the hospital and get another cortizone shot. That's the real reason behind his 70mph second serves, his back was killing him. I hope the shot did him some good, he is going to need all his strengh to beat Bags.

No Mention of Baggy

For Shame. Agassi made not one mention of Baggy or his heart- only of himself as always. Combined with the intentional swing and miss he showed what a jackass he truly his. Bring on Roddick in Rd. 4! For those who disagree, I truly don't care.

I don't blame Agassi for maybe forgetting to give props to Bagdhatis in the heat of the moment - McEnroe didn't ask him anything about that. But I did think that fake swing was crass and tacky, and just plain bad sportsmanship.

Baggy / Agassi spoiler .. who deserves it!

Baggy shoulda won, he was up a BP and then started cramping.. agassi couldn't even hold against a limping baggy.. man thats sad the match had to end like that and even sadder that the NY crowd was booing baggy! He deserved the win and woulda win!

hot damn
that was a great match

as soon as Baghdatis cramped though, i was like " No way can he do this " But he lengthend the match a bit, and brought it to an exciting climax.

hopefully, agassi can play well in the next match,

this will probably make my list of top 10 best matches ever..

C'mon guys it was a valiant effort by Baggy and Agassi is an old man enjoying his last tournament. Remember he used to be the "REBEL" and he wanted to have some fun and that may have poked through. I think he mentioned that he didn't necessarily feel it was the best way to win a match like that.

Cyprus and Iran are not in the same part of the world. In fact, their historical and cultural hertiages are different.

I too wish Andre had mentioned about Baghdatis' heart and gutsy play. It takes two great players to make a great match. But may be we are being a bit harsh on Andre. He had just won a match that many felt he would lose. Andre may have considered the prospect himself, may be prepared a speech in his mind. He did mention about the cramping albeit indirectly.

i know we tend to overanalyze this sort of stuff . . . but do you really have to be prompted by the interviewer in order to give credit to a valiant opponent?? come on now, it's called being gracious. the FIRST thing he should have done was acknowledge bags, and then soak in all the adulation. i mean, after all he was getting support ALL NIGHT LONG. it was bags who had to fight him AND the crowd. the fans never gave bags his due during the match (that obligatory applause once their man, agassi had won the match don't really count. it's easy to be gracious when you've won). so agassi should have been full of praise for bags in the interview. especially seeing as how bags was so gracious in defeat in speaking of agassi and his accomplishments. and considering that bags is actually a FAN of agassi's!

Ok but to be honest guys, it's easy to say he should have said this or said that, or for that matter, he should have finished it in 3 sets or hit the ball this or that way, but when ur there in the thick of it all you don't see those things. Let the guy enjoy himself.

The guy who wins always deserves the win, unless the other guy had match point(s). Then there is room for some doubt.

In this case, Agassi completely deserved to win. He couldn't close out a cramping Baghdatis because those cramps were temporary. Even Federer would have trouble closing him out. Try focusing on your game when the guy on the other side of the court is dancing and hopping and falling. Then when you hit the serve, he smacks a backhand return winner. That's a tough situation to deal with.

I know it was a New York crowd, but I thought it was crass to boo a player who had just fought hard to even it at 2 sets apiece and was fighting cramps to stay in the game. McEnroe himself mentioned the crowd's booing, but later he made several comments insinuating that the cramps were may be faked. It is unfortunate that even as great a player as McEnroe is not above low blows. But at least he gave credit where it was due during the interview.

I think Andre was exhausted physically and emotionally beyond belief. He left it all out there, I am sure all he was thinking was " I would like to lay down now on a couch someplace, thank you"

And your from Georgia, USA, correct? Thought so. Saying these two have roots in the same part of the world (Iran and Cyprus) is so, so....I am not going to call names or be rude, but that's so wrong. As someone else said, but surprised others didn't as well...besides being many kilometers from each other these countries have totally different heritages and histories, and most importantly different religion radically. Get a map and read a book! I know tennis is important, but dang...

.............boy.........(besides Baggy's cramps), I don't know HOW Andre managed to get out of THAT one !!! I was throwing dirt on him....a COUPLE of times !!! In fact, right AT 'the' point when Bags started the cramps was THE time I thought he was going to slam the door shut !!!!! OUCH !!! :)

You don't think a virtual MP at *4-4 as baggy only needed one more point to break, then serve out the set room for doubt?
