Me recently drinking a monster energy drink prompted me to create this thread. Mom's been buying 6 packs of Monster Energy Drink. I knew it wasn't healthy at all and told her to stop doing it, since we have my little brother in mid school who also drinks them. She is completely oblivious. She sees a fancy pack, that is advertised by evil manufacturers and the gaming community. But anyway, i drank one today. And i felt numbness thoughout my whole body for 5 hours straight, felt a really unhealthy state of anxiety and overstimulation. Unbelievable how people dont give a crap that their kids buy that **** and drink it? And how adults think it's normal to drink one in the morning or at work. How they think it's healthy to get a 5 hour sleep and then pump up on energy drinks? I think these drinks are solely responsible for 2-3 years worth life expectancy reduction in population. If you want energy, meditate for 10 minutes. Or whatever. Or do sports. Or look for a job that motivates you. Or sleep maybe??

And before you say that coffee is the same - no it's not. Not nearly. With coffee I feel a mental stimulation instead of a full blown full body heart attack, and i don't feel like **** at all. Even with that, I rarely ever drink it. Other ingredients apart from the caffeine itself are responsible for the harm of energy drinks. But i address the caffeine consumption normalisation in this topic too.

I include in this topic other sugared drinks like Cola, Pepsi and etc. They are abosulety disgusting and leave the same acidic layer on your teeth after consuming. One can only wonder what happens inside one's guts. And with all the sugar being absorbed.

My drinking habits are: water 90% of the time. Milk with hot dishes. Hot beverages like herbal teas or black or green tea. Juices. Drinks made of berries or fruit. I never do and from now on never ever will drink a sugared drink. Fu*k you greedy manufacturers. In a short time i expect the public to start treating those drinks and the culture of pulling all-nighters and going through the day with no sleep pumping energy drinks the same they treat alcohol now. Or smoking, or whatever

I switched from being a somewhat heavy soda pop drinker (averaged about 2 20 oz bottles/day Mountain Dew was the pop of choice) to coffee a number of years ago. The dew had a negative effect on my ability to focus...the problem is that I was addicted to the sugar. I think it started back in high school when I used to work jobs (fast food/gas station/bowling center) where fountain pop was free while on the job.

Fortunately I've never touched the energy drinks, which are even worse for you. Back in my day there was jolt cola (I think they advertised with twice the sugar, twice the caffeine) but I never tried that either. Sounded disgusting.

the troubling thing here is that the OP is 50 years old.......and his brother is 42. Including coffee in this discussion may not be necessary now that it's considered a "health food." Recall a few years ago when the National Institutes of Health analyzed the huge number of coffee studies in the medical literature and found that each additional cup of coffee a day, from one cup up to six cups, was associated with increased longevity. (With more than six cups a day, the data got a little murky). Yes, caffeine can be bit addictive and you may have that headache if you don't have your coffee on a given day, but it otherwise seems that it may be pretty good for you

Im probably the biggest energy drink drinker here. It doesnt seem to affect me badly at all. I don't get jitters or heart palpitations like some get. I do tend to drink tons of water when I drink energy drink though, because I get dehydrated quicker.

Sometimes I go months with no sugar, then I go crazy on the stuff. I guess I'm a bit of an addict.

I definitely wouldnt let kids do it though. Energy drinks are definitely an adult beverage.
