Anyone else getting pumped up for some Australian Open tennis?

By far the best tournament we had last year.. Just some great matches. Nole-Murray, Nole-Nadal were one for the ages. It used to be the slam I was least interested in but they have done a good job over the past few years the organizers have done with it and its become my favorite

All players fresh and playing at their best level. Mouth Watering tennis:)

I thought you hated the current era, 90's clay. Don't all the players play the same? Plus Big-Nose might distance himself further from your hero Petros. AO is definitely the best major though in terms of quality of play.

Not really. Has there ever been a tournament that was as decided as this one is? It's going to be a grindfest filled bore with Djesus winning the title in the end. I may just skip it altogether next year since it's my least favorite slam anyway.

Not a huge fan of the current homogenized conditions and primary baseline play all year round which doesn't reward attack, precision, strategy, and all court play but you take what you can get.

In terms of the AO I don't mind. Its great tennis nonetheless

Everybody here is excited, when it comes to GS tennis.

Whether everybody enjoyed last year's slugfest in the final, is completely different story.

Either nadal or djoker gonna win this, its a written. Fed sucks on those damn slow courts which btw keeping getting slower by the year and murraa chokes somewhere. Only excitement that remains is that its a gs and about the draw.

I thought OP hated this weak era, no variety, slugfest tennis with these mental midget phonies who can't hold a candle to Samp-god.

Or something like that.

Not really pumped for it, since its in 2 months lol

This year's Fed-Nadal matchup was pretty good too. Hoping to see the same seeds as this year, guaranteed good matchups

For me, the main question is what shape Nadal is going to be in if he shows up at the AO and will he be able to quickly re-establish himself in the mix?

Nadal hasn't been a factor in any tournament, major or minor, since the French Open last June. But I won't be at all surprised to see him back to his old self once he re-appears.

It's going to be fascinating to see what sort of shape the top players will be in and whether any of the younger guns like Raonic and Janowicz will be able to advance further in the new season than they have before.

Bring it on! :)

So sad

It used to be a really great tournament where players of all styles could flourish. Sadly not anymore with the super slow hard courts.

Your prediction should Nadal fans hope. You were convinced that Nadal would never beat Djokovic again, let alone in the final of RG.

Well,we will just have to wait and see,but would you bet your house that Djesus won't win the AO? I doubt you would considering he's the favorite by some margin, and will sleepwalk his way to the title.

Djokovic struggled against both Murray and Nadal last year, don't you think he could lose in the semifinals this year instead?

Not even Murray? If anything, 2013 will be a tough year for Djokovic to defend his title.

No one is going to beat Djesus at the AO next year. Not Murray, not Nadal, not Fed, not anybody. There has never been a tournament with such an obvious winner.

No,it's even more set in stone than that. Djesus is going to win 4-5 straight AO titles. Nobody can beat him there.
No, he won't. He's not as consistent at the AO as Nadal is on clay.

You freaking serious?

Most decided?

Umm let me see:

FO: Nadal 7 times, Borg 6 times.

USO: Federer 5 times, Sampras 5 times, Connors 5 times, Lendl made the final 8 years in a row.

W: Federer 7 times, Sampras 7 times, Borg 5 times, Becker 7 times in the final, Navratilova 8 times.

The AO is the least owned of all the slams.

And yet you think the AO is the most decided? LOL.

The same will be said for Djesus at the AO. He's a lock to win that tournament for years to come, and will be more dominant there than Nadal used to be at RG.

He already has 5 times the amount of losses at the AO as Nadal has at RG. And there is no way on earth he will rack up 8 AO titles in a row, or even 4 in a row and a total of 7.

And more dominant than Nadal USED to be?

Nadal has won the last 3 RG events, Djokovic the last 2 AO
Nadal lost ONE set in the last RG final(which was only cos of rain according to you) Djokovic had back to back 5 settersand lost 5 sets in total.

But whatever, I know facts don't mean anything to you

Yep. Used to be.

Who do you think is more of a lock to win the AO? Nadal can be beaten at RG,but Djesus is impossible to beat at the AO no matter the circumstances. He will also win RG and the USO next year as well since I have a feeling 2011 Djesus is going to show up at the beginning of the year. No Olympics next year, you know.

Murray and Nadal nearly won their matches, yet he is "unbeatable"?

Nearly doesn't cut it. The fact is Djesus still won those matches even though he should have lost them. That's part of what makes him unbeatable, and he won't be beaten next year either.

Over the next 6 years, someone is going to beat him. He barely won this year, and then lost to Murray at the US Open.

Again, Nadal THIS year alone, won RG far more convincingly than Djokovic won the AO. He lost ONE set because of rain, compared to Djokovic having to come back from 2 sets to 1 down vs Murray and a break down in the 5th against hard court mug, Nadal. He almost got beaten but a total hardcourt mug playing his worst muggiest tennis ever. Nadal has never ever had that much problems at RG except the one year he was beaten which is 3 years ago.

How exactly can Nadal be beaten at RG more easily than Djokovic at The AO when he hasn't been beaten there in 3 years, has one loss in 8 appearences and aside from that only one erson has taken him the distance? Djokovic doesn't come close at any point in his career.

Seriously, you're not even trying to troll in a clever way anymore

By the way, who was the dude who actually skipped the olympics?

But somehow when Nadal cruises to the RG title, he IS beatable? According to your logic, Nadal winning 60-58 in the 5th is still proving he is unbeatable, but even if he won 6-06-0 6-0 you would stillclaim he isn't.

I'll believe it when I see it. I see no evidence that Djesus is going to lose at the AO anytime soon.

He may have only lost one set,but he was very shaky, and probably should have lost that match. I am not convinced that Nadal can beat a Djesus firing on all cylinders. After his Grandpa died he wasn't quite the same.

Djesus hasn't lost at the AO in nearly 3 years himself. He's just as dominant there as Nadal is on clay.

He doesn't? Come on,Towser. You know that Djesus can and will beat Nadal at RG. That is if he gets the chance considering Nadal may not even play there next year, but if he does,Nadal won't beat him again.

And half of the season. Unless you think he was afraid of the pathetic testing that tennis has when the Olympics aren't happening. Seems to be pretty easy to get around the testing in tennis. Just ask Djesus.

Yep.he sure is.

Well if Djokovic LOST, you wouldn't see that as evidence of anyone being able to beat him

I'll paraphrase you for the reply to this -

if he wins next year he's had as many in a row as Nadal has had since his one and only loss at RG, and this despite the fact you claim Nadal is awful. But he's still dominating RG with greater ease than Djokovic who had to struggle to defend his title.

He doesn't? Come on,Towser. You know that Djesus can and will beat Nadal at RG. That is if he gets the chance considering Nadal may not even play there next year, but if he does,Nadal won't beat him again.

yeah, maybe eventually Djokovic will beat him after 6+ years of trying and Nadal winning 7+ titles. This has nothing to do with anything I said though, and at the moment Nadal has come far closer to beating Djokovic at AO than Djokovic has at RG.

And half of the season. Unless you think he was afraid of the pathetic testing that tennis has when the Olympics aren't happening. Seems to be pretty easy to get around the testing in tennis. Just ask Djesus.

So how comes Djokovic didn't skip the olympics as well? I don't think you even know how doping works. It doesn't suddenly make you play better than you are usually capable of, it just makes you improve strength and stamina. But no reason you couldn't play well for spells without it. Funny cos if djokovic was actually winning as easy as you make out, he would have no reason to dope.

Also Nadal has a longer history with such things so he's the expert on avoiding detection (he even offers alibis to fellow players who HAVE been caught, like Gasquet lol). I mean his sudden drop in form from 2010 to 2011 had to be down to something right? Was probably worried after he started to grow extra sexual organs - either that or Djokovic started making a better offer to the people with the good stuff. Got himself an exclusive deal. Poor rafa.

Yep.he sure is.

yes that's why he's lost one match in 8 years at RG.

But he hasn't lost and won't lose. If he does lose he will have had to play one of the worst matches of his career since he is unbeatable on slow hard courts.

Djesus had to struggle to defend his title? He was never in any danger of losing to anyone no matter how many 5 set matches he played. And do you forget how Nadal went 5 sets with Isner last year at RG,and how badly he played throughout that entire slam? Fed saved him from losing yet again to Djesus that year in a slam final. He never would have won the title otherwise.

Nadal never went from a weakling to the Hulk overnight with stamina to burn. Djesus, otoh, did go from a coughing, wheezing, mouth breather to someone who never tires and can play for days without showing fatigue. I have never seen a turn around like that physically from any player in all the years I have been watching tennis. Especially after Djesus had been on the tour for years by then. He also had that creepy Dr. Igor following him around everywhere. What was his role that he had to be everywhere Djesus was?

And I think it is you who doesn't understand the cycling of doping regimens. Read up on it and get back to me.

Who cares? Djesus will have his own streak at the AO over the next 4-5 years.
