Anyone going to Indian Wells?

I'm thinking of heading over there since my club team gets some discount tickets. Some of my buddies also want to go so maybe we can set up a hit if anyone is going.

Looking into going next year. I told Jollyroger I'm not waiting for him to buy airplane tickets this time.

I would have if it coincided with my spring break :( How is your club's chance at nationals this year?

We lost to usc in the semifinals at regionals

ahhh :( The california regionals are super hard. Our sectionals is next weekend and it's looking like we have a slim chance of making it. We made it last year, but lost most of our girls this season.

I'll be there the 7th through the 9th. I'm not sure my girlfriend will let me sneak away to play, but if you're on the grounds, email me via here and I'll come find you. Bring Marina as well so I can harass him about his Murrayesque conservatism on the court.

Which school do you play for? Best of luck!

New Mexico State. It is always rough for us because Arizona is typically one of the best teams in the nation and ASU has an enormous club, but we have to beat one of them to make it. Our club has had around 6 consistent guys and 3 consistent girls for a year (with a total of maybe 20 people), so it can get pretty interesting sometimes.

I will be there from the 7th till 11th and probably will be able to line up hits, but otherwise if anyone is able to hit that might be fun!

Went to Indian Wells the last 2 years so I'm thinking I might skip it this year. Haven't decided yet. I'd say 40/60 right now. If I go I will post here. Maybe get a hit going. Or at least a ttw member group photo.

I stayed there for 3 days last year, not going again. Saw all the top players on the practice courts. There is nothing to do in the town though apart from this. The average age is a young 100 it seems.

Tennis Warehouse will usually have a tent there and will be sponsoring all kinds of activities. Make sure to check it out.

If you stay in hotels, consider those on the shuttle route. Helps avoid the parking hassles.

There are one or two hotels close to the Garden where many players stay. I don't recall which, but search for threads in the Travel section and Cindy named one such place where she stayed.

I'll be there the first weekend 7th -10th. Would like to get together with some good players and hit. Also if anyone would like to play some competitive fun doubles vs my father-in law and myself please let me know. We are both great players I'm 27 he is 58.

do you go march 3 and 4th to see everyone? Or when?

You go before the first weekend if you want to see the maximum number of players practise. It is a tradeoff, between how many days early vs how many good matches vs how many practise sessions vs how many days you can stay etc. I went Thu - Sat.

If we tried to get together and hit, where could we do that in IW? Anyone know the area well enough? Court access?

I'm driving on Friday may hit if someone can find a court. When we went to WTT nationals there were hotels with tennis courts, they were always full since everyone stayed at similar hotels. Drove around a bit and I didn't see public courts at all.

There are hotels with tennis courts. The hotel I stayed in last year had one court. Sometimes players sneak into hotels with courts even if none of them is a guest there, but to avoid that, one of the players should stay in a hotel with courts.

^^$20 for parking? Man, that sucks. I've always stayed across the street at Desert Breezes and walked over. My friends I normally go with got a 3 bedroom house within walking distance this year.

I've been there several times before. I'll be interested to hear impressions of how the tournament is this year with the upgrades if anyone wants to report back. In the past, I've just bought GA tickets and camped front row/corner in Stadium 2 (or sometimes 3). Just wondering if this still is an option or if the good seats in stadium 2 are now all reserved or even if there are so few GA seats in stadium 2 that it is hard to find a seat at all, etc.

I'd also be interested to hear if they are checking coolers hard this year. In the past I've always brought in ~12 pack of beer, but just transferred it over to plastic water bottles. Almost everyone I was around brought alcohol in and the security just patted your bag to ensure no glass, but didn't check inside.

Hope everyone has fun.

Just in case not everyone is aware of this, there's a BNP Open app this year that has, among other things, the practice court schedule. A big reason I go every year is to see the top guys practice up close. Posting the practice skd on the tower was a step in the right direction, but that required you to have to go there to find out who was practicing, possibly risking leaving a good match.

Glad to see them embracing technology.

I'm here now, Stadium 2. I got some pretty solid GoPro footage of Cilic and Tsonga practicing, as well as Kevin Anderson and Gilles Simon. Got some obstructed view Federer practice and I've got center baseline seats for the Fed/Wawrinka doubles match. So long as my battery rolls on, I should be able to some great match play.

I just got tickets to 3/15. the site schedule says there is the doubles final (wta and ATP) and atp semifinals.

does that mean the two atp semifinals will be back to back in the main stadium? and the doubles finals in the other court?

or all 4 matches on one court? or?

I'll be hitting on one of the practice courts at about 8pm if anyone wants to say hello quick!

I'm here for the rest of the tournament. I'm a D1 tennis player, I'd self-rate 5.5, and if you'd like to hit or something, please e-mail me! hpaiste -at- aol . com

Thanks :)

Hey guys, do you know if they let you bring the DSLR cameras to the matches at IW? I have gone to some tournaments, and some of them don't let you do that. Thanks.

Yes, you'll be fine. They allow photography provided it's not for commercial use. If it is, you need to get a pass from the tournament organizers.

I had my GoPro filming nearly all weekend. Hopefully I can get some videos up later.
