I have to say, most of you were too quick to count out Stan. In sport, anything can happen. Unless your name is Andy and you're playing someone named Roger, there is always a level of unpredictability, even if you have been dominated before.

Kudos to Nadal for playing it through, and big congratulations to Stan for finally stepping out of Fed's shadow and proving himself as being the man to beat!

Thank goodness. Believe it or not, I was thinking about this and felt really bad that a fellow TTwer took such a hard financial hit. Glad to know you got out of that mess.

Stan was always going to be evens or more even if he took a 2 set lead. I was about to bail out at a set and a break. The injury nearly killed me as once Rafa took the injury time out the odds on Stan plummeted.

I recommend that no-one ever bets like this. I knew injury could beat me. I was lucky to react in time.

LOL, everybody predicting stan to win as a joke now claiming to be experts.

stan had no chance going into this. it was a complete fluke.

i am glad to see a new face with a major title though.

That's so nice.

Nadal fans are so classy!:)

Some of you sure are :) Unfortunately, you're outshone by the majority that are not. Or do they just shout louder?

You know the reasonable posters because they are posting now. The other immature scathing cretins are licking their wounds. I hate to say it, but it's great to not have to read their idiotic posts now, for a day or two.

And you all know who I mean...

I hope Nadal didn't make his problems worse by carrying on out there. Very happy for Wawa, he deserved that win. Nadal can't can't catch break at the AO though! Hope it's nothing serious.

Nadal fans don't worry, your man will be back chasing history and annoying the rest of with his winning ways before you know it.

This is what I was worried about from the second the injury happened. I wanted Stan to close it out as soon as possible.

Of course no one gave a **** because all the trolls pretty much destroyed the thread with "cheating" and "faking" accusations.

Was the first set and a break early in the second also a fluke? Stan was flat outplaying Rafa before he came up lame. After that Rafa couldn't move that well, and Stan lost his focus. Fortunately he got it back to close out that 4th set.

Nadal is a complete self centered jerk. hey rafa....you dont cry when you lose and you sure as hell dont cry when its your opponents first major win after he has never beaten you or even taken a set off you before. Its his time and let him have it.

You're seriously going to trash him for crying? His career could've been in jeopardy you ****ing moron. Do you have any idea how serious a back injury is?

yeah I have had them. If it was serious he would have not been able to walk or even stand up straight. get over your fan obsession. Players get injured all the time. Then they get treatment and play again. That doesnt mean you turn into a crybaby when you lose a tennis match.

I think most of us Rafa fans here are happy that he lost to his good friend Stan, well I am anyway. Yeah, Nadal will be back, he always does LOL.

Much unfortunate truth to this.

For the rest of the Nadal fans who are classy and can post in defeat as well as victory in a balanced manner...

Well played.

He didn't turn in to a crybaby though? He was barely crying.

yes it was a fluke. stan got hot for 1 set and then struggled to get a ball in the entire match concluding with Rafa handing him the match at the end. check out stans record against Nadal and big match record overall and then compare it to nadals.

If this wasnt a fluke what is?

It appears to be the other way around.

I've never seen Nadal fans act this way the entire time I've been on the board.

But, this is the way it goes down any time Nadal loses.

In the end it's just a sport.

What Nadal fans do you think act this way? Wishing death on opponents and making up lies?

I'm curious.

Yeah, because Murray when he was playing through his back injury BEFORE SURGERY couldn't stand up straight or walk right? I'm sure he was faking it if he could play through it.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Back injuries can absolutely destroy a career.

we´ll see... we´ll see... if he´s out from now on i´ll extensively excuse to you and him and everyone who wants to hear/read it... ...but i´m still positive that he´ll be fine... ...at least until he´s down a set and a break in a gs-game... ;)

Are you saying Fed didn't have a back injury then?

Ridiculous.

Stan has improved his game and conditioning in the past year. The last time he played Nadal it went to 2 tiebreakers. It was his turn to break through after beating Djokovic, who he nearly beat in a 5 set marathon last year. No, this was not a fluke. Forget about the past, Wawrinka is a better tennis player today than he's been in the past.

Ignore the trolls. Rafa is a great champion, today is a down day but there has been many highs and there will be many more.

what the heck is barely crying. do you have a scale you apply crybabies to? my. four year old crys less than these chumps.

its disrespectful to your opponent and unprofessional.

did Edberg cry? Maybe once but it was after he killed someone accidently. It wasnt over losing a tennis match.

get some perspective. The guy has double digit majors. The last thing he should be doing is crying.

did lendl cry, courier, chang, sampras, hewitt??????

Do these guys get paid to cry now or something?

Obviously a very difficult occasion for you emotionally. Did your back go when you played that forehand in the first game of the second set when you doubled over?
RAFAEL NADAL: No. The back, since the beginning I felt a little bit, from the warmup.

He's a good man though - finished the match. Imagine what would have been said if he retired in the 2nd set. For that crowd to boo a champion like Nadal was deplorable.

That was the most unexpected grand slam final I have seen possibly since Coria v Gaudio FO 2004.

Firstly, congratulations to Stanimal Warriorinka for a simply outstanding two weeks. He faced his demons head on here in Melbourne, and delivered the goods. And to defeat such a champion as Nadal, who was in his 19th slam final, and a player he had never even taken a set from is simply an unbelievable accomplishment.

Secondly, commiserations to Nadal. He was thoroughly outplayed before the injury, and in fact the injury broke Stan's momentum to a degree, but Nadal stuck to it and played it out. He will be back, no doubt it.

Thirdly, to all the classy Nadal fans...your guy will be back. FO is next. :)

Fourthly, all the trolls...you reap what you sow.

That's sweet of you, but I'm actually not gutted, because this is sport and anything can happen.

I do however, dislike the hypocrisy and people saying Nadal fans act the same way. But no one can name the poster(s) who actually wish death on a player and behave in this manner.

Still, there are enough decent FedFans that it's not worth being upset about.

But thank you very much.

LOLLLLLLLLL So now Nadal claims he was actually injured at the START of the match :)

That's a shame...Nadal needs to keep it classy. He was legitimately outplayed in that first set and bit, he shouldn't take that away from Stan.
