It is 47, and they most likely overlooked when she lost in the 3rd round and they counted that in. But still out of your first 47 slam appearances, you reach the semis in 46 of them is mental.

It's largely for that reason that I think they ARE the clear greatest two women of the last many decades. (I'm not sure how to compare them to Lenglen or Wills Moody, and Connolly is also difficult to compare to).

You are both wrong. She won her first 48 Slam quarter-finals, only finally losing one at the 1987 US Open. (Her other slam QF defeat was her final ever slam at the 1989 US Open).

She didn't reach the semis in her first 48 Slams, because of the 3rd round loss at Wimbledon 1983, but a 3rd round loss is not a quarter-final loss.

Court's rivals at first were Maria Bueno and Darlene Hard. Then there was BJK, Nancy Richey, Virginia Wade, Ann H Jones, all lifetime rivals. Then came Evert and to a lesser extent, Navratilova.

Evert and anyone else who were incapable of showing such concentrated dominance was never going to win the Grand Slam. She is not in the conversation about GOAT players for a reason.
