Hey i have a sprained ankle and was wondering peoples opinions on the ASO brace on sale at TW or the Aircast A60 that Murray is supposedly using.

Which are most comfortable and supportive for tennis? thanks

I've been wearing an Aircast on my right ankle every day I step on the court for the last two years. It's extremely comfortable and doesn't slow me down a bit. I'm actually faster than without it because I have no fear of rolling an ankle if I have to make a hard cut or a leaping overhead while rolling to my right behind my mixed partner. It's stable enough to make it impossible to roll while wearing it. One time I stepped on a ball, and the Aircast saved my ankle from reinjury - the stirrup that goes around under the foot has broken off long ago, but I just slip the side pieces into my shoe, wrap the velcro straps around my leg, and I'm ready to play!

I bought mine at a medical supply store for $50. They are not sold at normal retail outlets, but they are worth it.

Mine is the airstirrup. Did you get the wrong size or something?

The ASO doesn't have quite as much lateral support as the Aircast, because the Aircast has stiff plastic strips that go all the way from the sole to mid calf. I like that the Aircast doesn't limit forward movement.

ok ill try tennis with it, cause i just read that the a60 was fit for the athlete so i assumed it was the brace best suited for tennis

imo the aso brace is such a pain to put on haha

The a60 is just a fancier version of the airstirrup. But the airstirrup does the job just fine.

After you put on an ASO brace a couple times it literally takes <30 seconds to do the the subsequent ones. I have never tried Aircast so I can't comment on it. I will say that among pros and even club players ASO is pretty popular. I haven't seen an Aircast on a player yet (doesn't mean it is not any good, just an observation.)

I got an aircast a60 after rolling my ankle. It was nice at first, but I developed a tender spot on my upper ankle where the brace rubbed. I couldn't continue using it because it hurt whenever I moved. So I got a pair of ASOs and couldn't be happier. I've had absolutely no problems with them. They're easy to put on, fit in shoes easily, and they're very comfortable. Now I wouldn't play without them. I think the aircast is best for very bad sprains as it restricts movement more, but the ASOs are better for daily use. Oh, you should use long socks with either, though, or they will be uncomfortable.

It looks like no body uses these much, I am thinking about getting the a60 because it looks easy to put on and gives the protection I need for lateral support, the ASO seems difficult to put on, I tried the Futuro at my local pharmacy and it feels like it gives great support and stability but the material used to stabilize the ankle on the sides is soft so the chances of rolling an ankle would be greater with this than with one of the above but lesser than wearing nothing.
