They did not destroy each other in the RG 2017 SF. Murray already destroyed himself fighting for the YE #1 in 2016. Murray was already done at the beginning of 2017, he won 0 titles and was playing like sh*t at the beginning of 2017. Murray also lost in the early rounds of the AO 2017 to an unkown player. And Wawrinka got injured in the knee at Wimbledon 2017, not at Roland-Garros 2017. Wawrinka played the RG 2017 with no signs of pain the knee. Anyhow, if you want to be more specific, Wawrinka already had a bandage in the knee in the semifinal of the AO 2017 final. So it's not like he suddenly got injured in the RG 2017 SF.
Well, Sport, you are wrong about Muzziah at the start of 2017:
1. He played well enough to go three at the Doha in the final vs Joe Kovic, saving 3 CPs at 5-4 second set on the Serbian serve and capping the comeback 7-5.
2. Mischa Zverev was not an “unknown” at the start of 2017, unless you don’t follow tennis (which you obviously don’t). He was top 50 on 1/8/17 and 4R at a slam is not “early.”
3. Murray won Dubai’17. Is that not a title in your myopic version of reality???
Yes, they did destroy each other. Wawrinka wasn’t the same after the match but he wasn’t carrying injury into the match; he had won Geneva the week before and sailed through 5 matches at RG without losing a set. He had also made the final of IW after his “knee strapping” at AO. He was a very good 25-8 entering that match and won just one set in three matches after that war. Murray went 13-5 (not “sh11ty tennis”) after the Zverev upset at AO and his landing was a little softer after they drubbed each other in that great SF, shaking off a 1R upset at Queens to Justin Thompson to get to a QF vs Querrey and a 2-1 set lead before getting double breadsticked and quitting for the season. They effectively destroyed each other and that’s not an uncommon opinion around here amongst people that follow tennis.
