good mention. In fact, he was playing extremely well down under too. It took Wawrinka 2.0 to beat him. He dismissed Ferrer - who's beaten him often in the past - fairly easily. He's in great form, that's for sure

Yeah, but Ferrer is losing his edge slowly. He also lost to Gasquet at the USO last year. He had a 8-2 lead including a straight set win over Gasquet at the previous years USO.

All in all, Berdych is not doing anything out of the ordinary. He has been playing well down under since 2011 and only lost to great opponents

2011: Lost to Djokovic in the QF in straight sets
2012: Lost to Nadal in the QF in 4 sets. Played a very good match.
2013: Lost to Djokovic in the QF in 4 sets.

Berdych was just too good today I don't think anyone in the draw in current form could have taken the title from him, fully deserved. I can't understand how he only has 9 titles he has been around a long time, Cilic has 10! He is a underachiever in the eyes of a lot of tennis fans.

There is something funny about his forehand too.

His forehand is excellent, I don't know about today but gererally his best shot by far. He mistimed a few yesterday shanking them but that was more down to his foot speed.

As for his 2nd serve it's just alright except his wide kicker is up there with the very best.

Something about indoor hardcourts obviously really suits Berdych's game. First, the recent DC tie against the Netherlands and now Rotterdam. Success in the first seems to have boosted Tomas' confidence to keep playing well on this surface. Let's see if he can carry this momentum and form through to the outdoor tournaments!

Was expecting the final to be a bit tighter than it turned out. Cilic has been on great form all month. Unfortunately for him, Berdych is on even better form!

First title for Berdych in 16 months (since 2012 Stockholm) and first title at 500 level in 2 and a half years (since 2011 Beijing when he also beat Cilic in the final). Can't quite believe that a consistent top player of his calibre has still not reached double figures in career titles won in over a decade on tour (still 1 more to go to reach that target).

This win pushes him back up to #6 in the rankings from Monday!

Its a really good shot, but its breaks down a lot under pressure. Maybe I'm still living in 2010 and he has improved it a ton.

Are you trying to take over mustards job? Do you have your own notebook and pen? ;)

His movement breaks down under pressure I would say not his technique. Only the top players would try to break down his fh so we don't see it often.

Good conversation in this thread. No insults, no trolling etc. Nice :)

As for the topic, great win for the Berdman. And congrats to Cilic too. Hope both can rattle the top 5 in the next major tournaments

Of course not. But is only Mustard allowed to quote stats round here?

I have a small database of my own to refer to though nothing on Mustard's scale. Why? Is that a problem for you or something?

Murray fans always know more then anyone else isn't that right?

Feel a little bad for Cilic. Obviously not playing his A game.

He did win in Zagreb just last week, and made it thru the finals. So, no bad at all. Hope this past 2 weeks will be a great springboard for more success this year. nOW, it would have been bad for the Berdman if he lost this. Did not win anything last year, and for a top 5-6 player, that's not very good, to say the leastg

Mainad is easy to troll I just can't help myself, in fact all Murray fans take his worshipping to another level like its personal with them.

Actually I revised my original reply to you (please see) to make it a little more relaxed and humorous. I came off as being a bit too sarcastic and defensive in the original. My apologies!

But to answer your question: Do we Murray fans know more than anyone else?
I would say we know more about Murray than anyone else (usually) and are interested enough in the rest of the game to make our contributions there as well. I would say that's about right, wouldn't you?

Great win for Berdy, hasn't won a title in forever and a 500! He really needed this win, great for his confidence. Didn't even see the final but I expected the result, Cilic had no real time to rest and Berdych was just looking so solid all tournament, all year actually.

Like someone else posted, Cilic is in fact playing Delray Beach as the #7 seed. Seems as though he is trying really hard to get his ranking back up to where it should be. Definite top 15 player.

Sigh...if you live to be 100 you will never ever understand that no Murray fan worth his salt worships him or anyone else, will you? Whenever in any of my posts about Murray do you detect any hero worship from me? I defy you to find any!

What I have always done, as a fan, is defend him where I think he is unfairly attacked or criticised which was fairly rife on these boards at the time I joined. Now, thanks to the efforts of Batz and myself and 1 or 2 others, not to mention Murray's own improved performance of course, the anti-Murray trolling has diminished greatly since those dark days and he is accorded a bit more respect round here as he deserves to be.

But there are always 1 or 2 die-hards like you still hanging around like a bad odour aren't there? And don't try to pretend to me or anyone else that you are merely trolling, because you usually mean every word. True trolls just troll for the sake of it.

My wonder is: Why do you still bother? I mean, what has Murray ever done to you? Did he sleep with your girlfriend or something or maybe you just don't like Scotsmen?

I don't mind your posts, I was just playing with you don't take anything I say too seriously.

I do agree with your post about the fact Berdych not having won a title for so long is surprising. He played Tsonga in a indoor final last year, I forget where and he was the better player and really should have won but when things didn't go his way he didn't fight very hard maybe that is one problem of his that he gives in to easily. Cilic on the other hand is on track to have his best year ever, with Goran in his corner I see no reason why he can't aim for a top 10 finish to the year, after his drugs ban thats got to be great news.

He has to be careful he doesn't burn himself out before the masters 1000's. Top 10 is possible, top 15 should be comfortable.

Hopefully he knows what he's doing. Don't really remember Cilic as a guy with a ton of Stamina so he needs to take it easy at the same time trying to get as much points as possible. He has nothing to defend after Queens Club for a while so Top 15 by USO seems do-able.

I don't hate Murray I don't like his attitude and tennis, nothing has changed, he has not become more respectful I did think he might grow out of it at one time.

Murray fans are more partisan then most posters on here and that does not mean you, I think it takes more of a nationalist tone and it's not like they don't know how to troll, batz is a troll even if some of it is just in retaliation.

Now I know you must be trolling. You really cannot seriously claim that Murray fans (all 6 or 7 of us on here) are more partisan than the scores of Federer, Nadal or even Djokovic fanatics on here! Batz is not a troll and you know it. He just posts favourable articles about Murray (why shouldn't he?) without any hint of fan worship and he makes sarcastic replies when the inevitable haters join in and start making stupid comments!

But you know this only too well, don't you?

After Murray won Wimbledon he got a new legion of fans on here, each one dumber then the next. What I mean by partisan is following one player, I don't know any of the old Murray fans who watch anyone other the Murray.

Oh and Batz makes enough stupid comments of his own.

Do I not count as an old Murray fan knowing full well that I don't just post or comment about Murray! How many Federer or Nadal fans post except to idolise their hero and **** off his main opponent?

Oh and Batz makes enough stupid comments of his own.

Can you cite an example?

Tell me the last time a British male tennis player has ever done anything Murray has done? He's dour, very awkward introverted personality but I guess it's due to the amount of crap he got for the anyone but England joke in 2006.

We rarely have anything to cheer about especially after the riots in the UK ect and when the Olympics came around there was something to smile about.

It's a fallacy that the British are just overtly Nationalistic but when we have something to cheer about we're automatically starting up the British Empire again....when I'm sure over Countries are a million times more partisan that we are....

There's a growing taboo it seems to support a person who has allegiance to the country you have a relation to and I don't understand why...as long as it's good natured

sorry, but you are 100% correct on this.
it's debatable whether his game is interesting or not,
but his negative vibe is an extra major downer while watching matches he's involved in.

Murray is never going to change, I'm fine with that we can all be what we want to be, even if we are moany. :)

The country should be going crazy when he won Wimbledon, like you said it's well over due.
I just personally don't cheer for a player just because he is British, I prefer to like players on there style, personality and game.

All good points, Ferrer hasn't done much since his FO final.
Still, Birdman won his first tournament in over a year. But I'm done waiting for 'more' than what he is.

Why do you only ever want to stress the negative aspects of Murray? Why can't you acknowledge his achievements as a player which, from a purely British point of view, are truly phenomenal and are even more than respectable from a worldwide point of view as well!

Nobody is perfect. All players have their little foibles and irritations. So what? If their tennis is good enough to win the biggest tournaments and to beat the world's best players, then it must have merit and be worthy of respect whether you like it or not. To refuse to believe otherwise is just being blind and stubborn and irrationally prejudiced. Lighten up!
