I believe Blake was ranked too low to have been automatically entered, so it was either a wildcard or compete in qualifiers. He didn't win the contest they were having and he's busy in Stockholm to do qualies. So only doubles for him.

well, I understand, but then Berdych which is lower was entered directly in the main draw. others too.

Not sure if this helps, since Ginepri is seeded #16 and Spadea is already in the main draw.

They take direct entry from the players rank as of August 29th (42 days before the tournament begins). Back then Blake was only ranked 49th. Ginepri was ranked 42, but with the many dropouts it was enough to allow Ginepri direct entry. Blake on the otherhand was still too low. They take seeding as of October 10th which is why Ginepri is seeded 16th for the tournament.

this is it probably. forgot about it, but that's a long time before anyway, could improve on it.

He had surgery on his foot again and he is recovering from the groin strain he suffered during the Thailand Open against Gimelstob. I don't think his baby is due until November which is why he hasn't decided to play in Shanghai or not. If he does play Shanghai that will be his return.

Perhaps this was already explained. But shouldnt Blake have gotten a special entrance to the main draw for not being able to participate in the qualies because he's in the final of an ATP tourney?

Semi-Pro
If I read correctly he didn't get special entrance because Stockholm was not an IS Gold tourney. I could be wrong.
