ATP's most exciting player? Dustin Brown?

The author Dan Markowitz who penned "Break Point" with Vince Spadea is all over the Dustin Brown Express as he has totally fallen in love with the Jamaican's brand of reggae tennis. I saw the match where Brown crushed Querrey and it was no fluke. Brown just played near perfect, electrifying, artistic unpredictable tennis. Of course he served ridiculously well and stunned Sam with his variety of drop volleys, screaming winners and baseline consistency at times. Helluva fun player to watch, agree with Markowitz, there is no player remotely like him. Good read right here:

Well, the fact that he plays very quickly is enough to get my interest. The game has gotten waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too slow. It's beyond ridiculous at this point (towelling off after every point, etc, etc) so any player who takes us back in the other direction is welcome.

Seriously, the guy sounds delightful.

I'm really trying to find some highlights of the querrey match (or any Dustin Brown match)... anybody know where they can be found?

Well he did make the top 100 and won a round at Wimbledon. He did beat a top 20 player in Querrey in straight sets. he did win a challenger in Soweto. Not bad for a kid from Jamaica living out of a camper, trying to live his dream.

Among the oldest Waiting for the Bump threads?
This is turning out to be a great match though. this guy Krijenovic is no slouch, he is real good up and coming player and Dustin is beating him in the Final. Dustin could give us some more real exciting matches at Wimbledon this year

Would you look at that. Even the ATP acknowledging the great Dustin Brown this week

This compilation only contains two of them, but I counted 4 instances in the matches I watched in this tournament where he performed a drop shot that had the ball bounce back on his own side of the court. Bonkers!

That return at :15 will get him killed on the ATP tour. His tricks were working this tournament against challenger level opponents.

Like the time he beat Nadal in consecutive years?

Brown beat some ATP level players like Robin Haase and Filip Krajinovic to win this title. That was not an easy Challenger draw he went through.

Yes, great performances, and he's beaten some top players. Past few years his play has dropped off quite a bit. He plays a showman style of tennis (like Kyrgios) and with his height and talent (he obviously has great hands), it's frustrating to not see him play with a little more determination and consistency to be better. He makes a great highlight reel.

It's crazy what he did this week, on clay.
I noticed 90+% of his dropshots came from his FH side, wonder why ?
His ground game was very solid most of the time.

Junk balling they call it... :cautious: Moments of magic!

He was struggling with a back injury last year. I think he can make one more run for the top 100 if he stays healthy.

Hi people.

First of all, sorry for my poor english.

I can´t find a doubles point from Dustin that I saw some time ago in a video, may be a couple of years ago.

He was at the net, his teamate serves to odds side, the return hit the net and jump to the left so near the net, Dustin run behind it and when he reach it, near the second bounce, he hit it like a tweener but at his right side to his back and won the point cause the ball crosses the net to the right so near it.

Any one remember it? Anyone knows where it is?

Thanks!

Dustin Brown might have been ATP's most exciting player in this century. The shot variety is something else. Not even Roger Federer uses such variety.

We thought Kyrgios is very entertaining but he is no more different than most tennis players.
