Just curious what the runners here are wearing?
Same. Not a runner shoe die hard but I jog every second day on an oval and Pegasus 34 have been my shoe for the past few years. Is that a decent line for a regular guy like me? Looking to buy a new pair from the same line.

I'm using Brooks Glycerine 18 & Asics GEL Nimbus 22 & am eyeing the new Bondi from Hoka. My youngest daughter actually uses Nike Pegasus 36 these days to train & has completed multiple marathons in the past and loves it,so Michele & @Fedinkum you guys are in good running company with those!

Anyone try Under Armor shoes? HOVR line specifically (Sonic 3, Phantoms 2 and Machina)... Or just UA running shoes in general?

Yes I have a pair of under armour running shoes, and had a pair many years ago as well. Had no problems. Can't tell you how good they were though, I am no expert.

Is it the HOVR line? Which one? How is the cushioning and the fit?

Reebok Floatride Forever Energy one longer runs and easier runs, Reebok Floatride Run Fast on harder run days, and Reebok Floatride Run Fast London’s or Reebok Harmony Racers on treadmill days.

Yes, a Reebok guy here, but the quality and value is unmatched (IMO). Picking up quality shoes with a full rubber outsole (improves durability) at $27/pair (Forever Energy’s), $36/pair (Run Fasts), $45/pair (Run Fast London’s), and $29/pair (Harmony Racers) is unheard of.

So...I obviously am a tennis shoe geek, which has easily translated to allowing me to dabble in running shoe geek. I've been in several brands and several types of running shoes (Brooks, adidas, Asics, NB, etc.), but these are great daily trainers the only thing I could see you potentially wanting more cushioning? (That's where my 880s come in)

But Nike just updated to the 37th iteration (I haven't tried them yet!) but the Zoom Air unit is bigger and it is supposed to be a more comfortable ride. One of my friends at RW is an Ultra runner and she has worn Pegs for YEARS! So finally after not falling in love with my last shoes, I tried them and have been loving them! I like that they are responsive and cushioned enough, excited to get into the 37s! Running shoes get such a quicker update vs. tennis shoes it is hard to keep up!

RW also does shoe reviews on a bunch of the top models and it is pretty similar to what we do at TW, so those might help too! :)

I'm on track to hit my 50 miles per week. Will be the first time I reach that since my knee arthroscopy last Sep for meniscus tear. Had been taking it very slow and steady at 3 miles per day before.

Not feeling too bad, but I need to manage my runs better for sure. I don't think I can keep up these numbers week in and week out.

Peg Turbo 2s are my main shoes, and sad to see them being discontinued. Eyeing the Endorphin Speeds as a replacement, as I'm not sure I want to pay the premium for the upcoming Tempo Next%. Hoka Clifton 6s for my long/easy/recovery days. Recently picked up a pair of Peg 37s about a month ago, which to be honest I'm not entirely fond of (aside from the looks - the Olympic colorway is sweet), but nevertheless still using them in the rotation (mostly interval work). Have a pair Epic React 2s that I also like, although they are now relegated to mostly a walking/casual shoe that I often leave in the car to have something for unplanned/spontaneous runs.

Reebok has been really under the radar honestly, Floatride line is simply amazing combo of value & performance (y)

Thats some pretty serious mileage for a casual runner haqq. Go slow & yeah give rest/recovery days. Keep your nutrition balanced too for optimum recovery my friend.Keep on runnin! (y)

Those Pegasus 37 in the end are indeed sweet looking! I love Hokas personally for the type of ride they give & those Clifton 6s got my attention too. Have you noticed any differences with previous iterations? A few ppl told me they stiffened them up which is a bummer (own Clifton 4s currently for recovery runs sometimes and eyeing the soon to be released Bondi 7).

Those Peg 37s are definitely a look-grabber when I'm running in them. It took some time for me to break in. The React foam in my opinion feels quite firm initially and needs a little bit of time to soften up, although it's still the most firm feeling shoe that I currently have.

I don't know about the Clifton 4s, but they are more cushioned to me than the 5s. It is also slightly wider, and I also don't have some rubbing in the arch of my left foot as I did with the 5. It is also noticeably lighter to me, and being a pretty slim/not heavy guy, I will always prefer lighter weight shoes even if it sacrifices some sole rubber and padding in the upper. So the 6s were much better for me than the 5s. I like the 6s quite a bit, and I actually log more miles in them than any other shoe since I can gobble up tons of junk miles easily in them. Will definitely grab some 7s whenever they hit clearance at RunningWarehouse since it's just a slight upper change that ends up dropping the weight of the shoes even more. If you're looking for absolute max cushion and don't mind the weight, then the Bondi's will do well, although the Clifton 6s are about as marshmallowy as I'd like.

I wear New Balance 1080V6 as my current running shoe. I have five pairs of running shoes in storage, a New Balance 993, a 1540 in 11 1/2 6E, and some V6s and V7s. I have a V9 on order. I look around for sales on the 1080 and stock up when I can. I will not be buying the V10 as they've made it more narrow in the toebox.

The best thing about the 1080s is the cushioning and that the toebox is fairly wide and deep. New Balance moved the vast majority of their shoes to a narrower last in the toebox and I can't wear the vast majority of their shoes - same is true for other shoe manufacturers. My absolute favorite running show for size is the 1540. This has the widest toebox of any shoe that I've ever seen or worn and it is also available in 6E. I have a 4E that I sometimes run in. I bought the 6E a few years ago when I developed a ton of blisters and needed something wider that wouldn't squish the blisters.

I have purchased a number of apparel items at Running Warehouse in the past. I have not purchased shoes there because they do not carry a lot of inventory in the sizes I need. I don't even know if they carry 4E or 6E shoes.

The forum is quite sparse right now - nothing like TTW. But the vibe is good. I'll check in from time to time and see how it goes.

There isn't much on clothing and that's a big deal on RW so I expect more people to post there. RW has a lot of nice higher-end stuff from Nike, Adidas, etc.

I had a look at the Altra website and they do a one-size fits all on width. It is very difficult to tell how wide these are. My three smaller toes are relatively long as well so I really don't like the sharp tapering common to most shoes. The difference between A and EEEE is really huge, so unless it's obvious from the picture, I would have to try them out in a store and we don't have an Altra store nearby. We do live near an outlet mall with Nike, New Balance, Adidas, ASICS, Saucony factory outlets but no Altra. For some reason I thought that Altra was a women's brand but I see that they do sell Men's shoes too.

I bought a Keiser m3i a few months ago when all of the gyms closed and use it when the weather is really bad or if I want a workout at night. I would love a treadmill but we don't have the room and it would make too much noise.

Still own that old Schwinn Airdyne and have access to a Planet Fitness a mile away, just not brave enough to enter. Have endless grassy fields & parks to run in just not sure my ankles will take it.

I dropped my Planet Fitness membership (they opened one up less than a mile away) when they reopened. Planet Fitness requires masks to be worn and social distancing and I don't really want to workout in that environment. I also have a membership at the YMCA (they have three facilities) and I used to use their indoor tracks during the winter. One of the tracks hasn't been opened up because it is only two lanes. The other track has to be scheduled with no more than 12 people using the track at one time. I also used them for tennis and there has been no indication that tennis is opening up soon. My membership there is currently suspended but they'll drop it if I don't unsuspend it by September.

AirDyne is a great and classic ergometer. What I love about the Keiser is that it runs silently. I used the airdyne at the YMCA from time to time.

It's possible to order weight plates at a local fitness place now. The stores have been out of weight plates since about April. So my home gym is small with just basic equipment (bench, barbell, dumbbells, spin bike) but it will have to do. I imagine that a lot of people are in this mode - wondering about gyms, setting up home gyms, figuring out running outside, and watching the weather like a hawk. It's going to be more challenging this winter. I have the clothes to run down to about 25 degrees, but I don't run when there is snow and ice on the ground. It's not good to fall at our age.

Crossfit is really tough stuff and if you are feeling a bit under the weather, are you going to go for a really strenuous workout? I’d think that those involved in it are in tune with their bodies and more cautious with health issues than the average person.

The typical person that I saw at Planet Fitness was over 45, overweight or obese and they walked on the treadmill while watching one of the overhead televisions.

I don’t think that we have had any gym outbreaks in my state butmy state is the second lowest infection number in the country.

I used to listen in on Zoom meetings for work while riding the spin bike and the spin bike not making any noise allowed me to do that. I may also watch videos on an iPad and it’s nice to not have to pullout a headset to listen.

The Airdyne is unique in that the effort required rises in quadratic proportion to the pedaling speed so it is relatively easy to get a strenuous workout.

I also have a road bike on rollers and I used it decades ago but it made a huge amount of noise. It’s normally used to dry laundry these days. I built that bicycle from the frame up in the late 1970s.

Still have and use an old Nordictrack from BITD. Folks give them away on Facebook. No impact, bit noisy. Used to jump rope. Great to raise HR. Tennis player locally used to rollerblade to the courts.

We used to have a NordicTrac in the office gym. It disappeared a long time ago as nobody used it. I think that I may have tried to use it a long time ago. They are nice in that they take up very little space and are fairly quiet. I can believe that people give away gym equipment. Time for some Yoga.

Prob to reduce clutter. Less equipment to hang clothes on.

Dang! GOALS!

The 1st week we were quarantined, my milage doubled easily without me realizing it (because what else was I going to do to workout?!)...the bod definitely wasn't loving it though. I also start freaking out if I up my milage one week and then how I will maintain it?!? But, I need to get back to some longer runs. With life getting crazy and busy, I get my 5ks in often as a warmup for tennis or do some post tennis speed work, but used to love at least one 10k a week.

Also agree with the Nike Reacts -- I HAD to have a pair but they are just too minimal for me to run in, but so comfy and for sure have worn them all over Europe walking all the miles/kms!

You guys are motivating me to get those miles back up!

Really hot out here and I couldn't run early morning. I'm thinking about driving down to the trails to run. I wish that we had wooded trails in my town - though we have had bears in the woods around here in the past. And deer, moose, wild turkeys, and some cats (not the household kind).

Wifey sat on a deck and noticed eyes met hers thru the rail. Two bear cubs walked up the stairs, then she saw another and their Mom in the parking lot below. Had deer on the tennis courts, walking the trails, in front yards. Disconcerting when jogging. Have water have critters

Our city trails have enough walkers, runners, cyclists so that we shouldn't see bears. I've seen smaller critters and snakes on the path.

The police patrol the trails twice a day. It's wide enough for a police SUV to drive through.

Have bike trails, abandoned railway tracks, trails in parks. Worried more about raised trail/tree roots and poor cyclists than critters. Btw, the bears were in Tenn.

I tripped on a tree root many years ago. It's surprising how much damage that sort of thin can do. I had a bunch of cuts on my chest, arms and legs.

My ideal is a cushioned indoor track, then outdoor track, then trail running and then treadmill. Just got off the spin bike and ready to do some barbell work.

Great to see runners pump each other up :) - absolutely agree, life gets busy and get hard to find time for longer runs. I have also been utilizing our treadmill (previously serving as a clothes hangar at times, haha) so that came in handy a lot for runs during peak quarantine days.

Do you have any specific exercises you do for recovery post run that you would recommend, Michelle? Especially after your 10k runs? I'm sort of new to 10k running and unlike my casual 2-3 mile runs in the past where I didn't do anything at all post run, I can now feel the body actually demanding proper cool down and recovery exercises as well as nutrition. I've been trying to improve times as well hence running harder too.

Thanks!

@haqq777

So I am THE WORST about cooling down and stretching (and also have THE TIGHTEST hips), so have tried to work in yoga and a lot of hip openers into my routine. I also will follow up a longer run day with a more active recovery like a hike. And because I've got some Running Warehouse buddies, I've been able to encorporate some of their warmups and cool downs to help with the bod.

I also am sure you know, but I am guilty of this, when upping your milage, try and increase 10% at a time each week -- running 5ks all week and then throwing a 10k in there definitely will be noticeable, but when you slowly increase your milage, I think you'll notice it feels better run by run!

And there is something to be said for a SLOW recovery run. Ego aside, slow it down, don't look at the pace and cruise :)

That's all I got, but I KNOW Running Warehouse has better and more helpful tips and tricks!
