Australian Open Tickets?

Hi,

I'm new on the Tennis Warehouse message boards, though I was a member way back in the early 2000s. I have a quick question.....what is the best website to purchase tickets for the Australian Open 2015 from? I found a couple, but not sure which site is more trustworthy or how I will receive my tickets.

I already booked flights to get to Melbourne, but will also be visiting New Zealand, Sydney, Cairns, and Brisbane. I plan on going for 2-3 full days in the early rounds. Has anybody ever gone? What was your experience like? I live in San Francisco, and this will be my first time in Australia. Hope to hear from some of you all, and thank you in advance for any information!

What the Australian Open might lack in prestige and history it certainly makes up for in being a well run and spectator friendly. Plus we'll have 3 fully covered courts this year. I've always just gotten tickets from Ticketek (Australia's largest ticket service). There are links from the AO website.

Of course with the draw not being done until the Friday before it is pot luck as to who you get to see but if cost isn't a problem you may as well get day/night Rod Laver Arena tickets for the first few days. They still get you access to the outside courts and this year HiSense Arena. It used to be Margaret Court Arena was free for ground pass holders but they've changed it.

Crowds are fairly large and it can be hard to get seats on the outside courts if there is someone you want to see. Keep an eye on the practice times and you can usually get a decent spot for all but the top players. The grounds themselves have lots of activities and it's worth taking some time to have a look around and soak up the atmosphere.

As for Melbourne it is a great city and there is a real party atmosphere. Plenty of great restaurants, good public transport. Also as you probably already know it can be hot, very hot. Last year it cracked 40+ degrees celcius a few days. So be prepared. There are free water bubblers which are a great so bring a refillable drink bottle.

Our dollar is fast dropping to 1990s levels so the extra price you'll be charged for everything from a Big Mac to a steak won't be noticeable.

Thank you for the responses! I'll be sure to check out the websites and purchase my tickets. I'm sure I'll be trying out all sorts of different things to see and do in Australia. I'm very excited about this trip. Less than 3 months away :)

I've yet to go to a men's finals, just waiting till my kids are old enough and we have an Aussie in with a chance. Hopefully I won't be taking my grandkids!

We did relatively well through the GFC so our dollar stayed high but with mineral prices dropping we've been pegged back a bit.

Yeah i red some last night and seems your heading down for 75 cents on the us dollar, how is the job market? Im keen on moving to oz in 2 years when I'm a stage 3 tennis coach.

I played at some of the same tournaments as a junior with Pat Rafter. Don't really remember much about him aside from the fact I'd have laughed if you told me he'd go on to be #1 and win a few slams.

Job market is pretty good all things considered. I'm not fully across the coaching market and decent coaches are always in demand, but you won't make a fortune. Although with the upsurge in Australians doing well we'll probably see an increase in the number of kids playing so that might help.

thats an awesome experience, he seems to be a class act old Pat!

Sounds good, I was studying hotels, tenniscoach would be a nice extra job or a nice job when retired, Head tennis coaches can make 100 000 a year Ive read, but I guess it differs alot, what line of business would you recommend? Tennis coaching can be wonderful if you have the right players to coach.

I'm going there for the 1st week, should I get tickets shade viewing or best available/best price at Rod Laver for day matches?

If you are going for the first week, skip Rod Laver is my tip, roam the outside courts. That's where the tightest matches will be and you are free to cherry pick.

You also get closer to the action and get to appreciate how damn hard these pros hit the ball. You lose that a bit on centre court when you distance yourself.

Lot cheaper and, if you have a bad back like me, more comfortable.

I always stay around Fitzroy. It's within walking distance of the open and there is plenty of good coffee and interesting night spots in Fitzroy.

Staying at Blackman Art Series off St. Kilda Rd. It is in the South Yarra area. Nice apartment hotel type place. It is about a 20 minute walk to RLA if you cut through the Shrine of Remembrance. Easy to get around because there is a tram stop just outside. Fawkner park public courts are also walking distance and behind the hotel is the Albert park golf course. Had a clinic at Kooyong with Richard Fromberg whose claim to fame was winning a match against Roger before he became a tennis god. We played on clay. Having a blast! Sadly have to go back stateside on Australia day. Couldn't stay longer than a week. Btw, Margaret is quite nice. Saw Vika and Wozi do battle last night. Gotta run, later...
