Backhand>Forehand?

My 2hbh is more verstile and stronger than my forehand. I often hear the term "big forehand" but who on the ATP has a better backhand than their forehand?

Gasquet is probably the only player in this world who hits his backhand harder than his forehand........which by the way shows that he has really a problem with his forehand.
As good as his backhand could be,a player should always be able to hit a forehand harder than his backhand.....or else that means he has some huge problems with his forehand.

I am pretty sure that he can hit his forehand harder then backhand, it is just its less consistent shot and at times (Roddick match in Indian Wells) can break down in crucial times.

Agassi.

I've never seen anyone hit a backhand harder than Andre. Not sure which is better.. FH or BH, but he rips the BH.

Or an unbelievably good offensive backhand. His forehand isnt bad by any means, just not that reliable. He uses his backhand like a forehand, he hit far more winners of it against Roddick in the Wimbledon quarters than with his forehand, if I had to guess it'd be like a 5-1 ratio of backhand winners to forehand. Even just looking at it specifically, I've never seen a player hit that many winners with a backhand time and time again.

Gasquet consistently has more BH winners than FH. More women pros have better and more consistent backhands than forehands.

Whatever a backhand is nowhere near as versatile as a forehand. Anyways Gasquet's forehand is just way better than his forehand. His forehand is soooo whippy it has very little depth or weight behind it. On players having stronger backhands probably safin, gaudio, venus williams, actually most WTA players or most women in general actually don't know why, pavel, lubijic, maybe davydenko?

5 to 1? No way.... there is a chance he had more backhand winners (I think he has around 37) then forehands but it would be by very few.. I would guess he also hit AT LEAST 30 forehand winners. We remember backhand winners more because those were some of the most spectacular passing shots, etc, but he also had tons of set up winners and those were mostly forehands.

Yes, I would like to know too. With good form a 1hbh can be hit as hard if not harder than a forehand. Gasquet and Federer are just a couple of good examples.

You can get more of your body into the swing, using more muscles in a one handed backhand.

I'd be surprised if a professional tennis player can hit his backhand harder than his forehand. It has to do with the motion of the swing. People "pull" on their arms when they hit a forehand and "push" when hitting a backhand. Our body naturally has better leverage when pulling something than when pushing it. For example, you are able to rotate your hips a lot more when hitting a forehand than when you're hitting a backhand since you don't have to reach across your body to hit the ball, compromising the extent to which you can wind up your hip.

I don't that is correct. With a forhand your body leads your hand when you rotate to hit the **** so consequently you can put more power into the shot.

On your backhand your hand leads the body therefore you cannot get as much "body" behind your shot compared to the forehand. Backhand is more hand and less body compared to forehand

You can take Safin off that list, his forehand is his better shot and if the match was on the line he would probably choose to hit that over his backhand. He routinely steps around his backhand to his forehand to open up the court.

The reason you can get more power on a forehand if hit properly over a backhand is because of the rotation of the hips and shoulders. Top pro forehands are hit easily over 100mph, but the fastest backhands are struck in the mid 90's at best. More mph means you can do more damage. Simple really.

The reason most women prefer the backhand over the forehand is simply because of poor technique on the forehand side.

wrong regarding safin. all male pros run around their backhand to hit a forehand b/c they can get a better angle when hitting the inside out forehand (which also goes over the low part of the net). even though safin runs around his backhand when he has the chance, his backhand is still far superior.

It is not always about the power. IN case of Safin there is no question that he can hit his forehand with more power at times then bh that that shot is simply not as reliable for him as his bh. I watched at least 100 Marat's matches and have seen it broken down time and time again. His backhand however is probably still in top 5 best backhands in the world.
