Basic video trimming and splicing?

VideoPad. Has some extra features as well, but very simple and friendly for basic stuff.

DaVinci Resolve is free and I use it to trim/splice. It has a lot of more advanced features if you want to try those out but you don't need to. Simple import, export, cut, paste is pretty straightforward.

video editor that is part of photos app on Windows 10 will do basis trimming, splicing, text, labels, etc
DaVinci is a wonderful piece of software. The 'not fancy' it is not however......

iMovie, FCP, or Premiere. Whatever is native on your smartphone or computer should work.
