C. Rafa at The French :)

Lol. Nadal in RG is a completely different level.

I didn't say it was his peak or his prime. Just acknowledging the level he brought to the court. He has been up and down in some of his other epics though when at his peak so I disagree. As for Djokovic not playing his best well yes he didn't for stretches in the match but when the chips were down he went to another level.
IMO he was just playing a good (but not anything special) match until it came to tie breaks, on them he played very bad. I can't see how can the level in this match can be compared to Rome 2006 for example. This looks like recency bias.

Disagree....Federer has done same thing W 2008 and Ao 2009...and people forget AO v Safin in 2005. He struggles when its tight.
But not as much as now. Also, if he was in his prime he would use different tactics in this final and would be more patient in rallies.

The big stumbling block for Federer is he never beat Djokovic at AO (even when Fed was in his 20s still) while Djokovic beat him 3x at Wimbledon

The thing with Fed, that many haven't yet grasped, is that with him the sum is greater than the parts.
IOW, after you have counted up all the slams, the finals, the records for this and that and that,
he is more than just that.
The same can't be said for any of his rivals.
IOW Fed transcends mere records.

It just feels like the goal posts are now being moved. It once was his Slam count and weeks at # 1 but recently that has turned into the intangibles.

For now Federer at Wimbledon maybe. Probably will end up Djokovc at the Australian Open. Neither will ever come close to Nadal at the French Open though.

He did in 2007, though it must be said that was before they changed the courts. Djokovic started winning AO titles after the change of courts.
