I remember Borg playing mixed doubles in the early 80's at the Gunze event in Tokyo with Bettina Bunge. I also remember him losing in the World Mixed Doubles tournament in 1983 to Mandlikova-Nastase, though I don't remember who his partner was.

What a greaat and funny match.Mandlikova-Nastase vs Hoad-Bueno is my dream mixed doubles match.

Big work.

Remarks :
1 ) Borg virtually unbeatable in exhibitions years 70s
2 ) The exhibitions seem to be really important :
- Hilton Head and Suntory Cup , 4 draws but with a range of high-level participation
- Milan 1979 and Frankfurt 1979
- Interesting the first real tournament played in several Dutch cities .
Holland - Roxy Tennis Tournament , Indoor Carpet
final won with Dibbs
3 ) Some events with round robin without final and many challenge matches
4 ) It was sometimes real tour , as in Mexico / Venezuela in 1976
5 ) In 1979 the exhibitions begin to be more structured , they are abandoned the round robin and 4draws quadrangular as they start to organize more tournaments with Formula Masters ( ATP Finals )

1979 Frankfurt
1979 Milan
1979 Holland Roxi Int .
1982 Sydney Akai

Can You give your criteria for relevance? Is it prize money, size of draw, quality of opposition, a sort of tradition and public acceptance? I would agree with some choices, for instance the Frankfurt 1979, whose final i saw on tv, this was a real competitive tournament. Hilton Head and Milan built up some Tradition. I was live at the Essen Gruga Hall exo in 1978, to witness Gerulaitis-Panatta, Borg - Laver. This was a real exo, where the players came into town just a few hours before play.

It's hard to give an answer , in my opinion ( but it is my opinion) to be deemed relevant must have certain characteristics :

if 8 draws
1 ) field of players-champions
2 ) tradition
3 ) it can be isolated event , but must have a field of very significant participation

if 4 draws , must have a tradition in those years ( only Hilton Head , Suntory and Boca Raton )

if challenge match must be a real challenge , a war , the event event .

I know it's hard but you perceive much difference between some events .

I saw this one. Good match: some tough, hard playing.

Oddly, between sets, Borg walked around staring up into the darkened crowd, as if looking for a lost puppy.

Continuous traveling exhibitions in 70s and 80s, although that Borg has won so many do not have a special meaning for the honors of the Swede.
With one exception, 1978.

Almost everyone thinks that Borg was the number one in 1978, except the ATP.

Borg won the following ATP tournaments in which I tried to give points:
Birmingham (USA) 4
Milan 4
Rome 4
RG 6
W 6
Baastad 1
Tokyo 4

over the final 3 points of the US

..........32 points

Connors won the following tournaments ATP

Philly 5 points
Memphis 4
Rotterdam 4
Denver 3
Birmingham (GB) 4
Washington 4
Indy 4
Stowe 1
US Open 6
Sidney 3

over the Wimbledon final 3 points

............41 points

The difference between the only ATP is clear but while Connors did not win in 1978 invitational any significant or great tournament at which ATP not to score, Borg can add:
- Tournament pf Champions WCT 3 points
- Pepsi Grand Slam 3
- Suntory 3

41-41

This is a case where the invitational are decisive in the outcome of, the number one at the end of year.

Connors made an incredible year but only limited to the ATP tournaments, Borg also won three ATP tournaments which gave no score.

Hallo Mats! Do you have some newspapers about the final? The Spanish newspapers say that in the semis Gerulaitis beat Panatta 6-4 6-3. The final should be Borg-Gerulaitis.
