One of the top tenners from 1981 to 1983, a major injury cut his carrer down when he was peaking, at 25.Exactly as Clerc, one of his main rivals on clay courts.
Very solid backcourt game, good serve, better than average BH and a very steady volleyer, this aussie could adapt to indoor surfaces, grass court and clay courts. At the slams, he was a sf at the 1980 AO (lost to Teacher) , a QF at 1981 Wimbledon ( Borg beat him in his best match of the season) and, finally a QF at 1982 RG (Clerc straight setted him) .
Of course, he and mate Paul Mc Namee were widely known as the mcnamacs, one of the best ever teams of the modern era, winning Wimbledon twice ( and beating Fleming/Mc Enroe in both finals) among many other titles, like the 1979 Australian Open and the 1982 WCT World Doubles Chmpionships, which was the biggest doubles event in the world.
Last time I watched him was around 1985, when he was due to qualify as he had been two years off the tour. You could still see some of the old Mc Namara but he couldn´t climb the mountain again.
