Rod Laver could give it a shot in this case, maybe even in a clash with Ken Rosewall :D

Of course he could win it. He played real tennis with nothing but a wooden racquet. He didn’t use space age materials like carbon and graphite in his racquet like the no talent pusher who does nothing but stand 10 m behind the baseline and just taps balls back. He could beat Nadal at RG. That guy has more talent in his wrinkly pinky than Nadal has in his entire body.

Grand Slams should just be a single set tiebreak, first to 5 points
I hope you mean the "Sudden Death Tiebreak" with possible 5-4. Because who will watch if he doesn’t know when it ends? If they play for two points difference, they could play like forever.

Don't worry about it too much. It's the new catch-all response to anything. Even kids say it to other kids. You could think of it as the new "no you".

It would have been interesting to know how many majors each of the big 3 would have won if all masters finals were best of five.

plus:

No roof
AO finals to be played at noon like in the 80s and 90s.

People playing the generational blame game when the answer comes down to one simple thing: There's too damn many people on this planet now compared to then.

YE Final Best of Five should not have been stopped.

It was done to accommodate the top players! If they won one, it would be hard to follow it up with another if they got into a 5 set battle that wipes them out for a couple weeks! IW's was notorious for that even if not hot; sand and wind also made it brutal at times extending matches to 4+ hours! To me it was more an anomaly to have someone play and win some of those BO5 events back to back! I still have a mental picture of Agassi going down to Edberg in 4 long sets that just went on forever in both IW's and Miami in 1990! They'd never be able to get away with that today with how long matches drag on!

I get MS1000 change, but WTF/YE final. The only affect would be on Davis Cup Final.

All I can think of is "who was in charge during these massive changes?" Fed was Prez and Nadal was his VP! They just made life easier for themselves and extended their careers to no end; and still going strong! Conspiracy that the ATP Council should look at?

Agreed. ATP needs to harden TFU. Djokovic better realise a few things about his legacy before it's all a bit late and the Piques of this world take over.

I'd guess it was more the TV networks money became larger and the dominant revenue stream, so they were able to put pressure on tournaments. But no player's council would've resisted this change imo, as it benefits the players as well. The only ones losing are the fans.

It's still not playing for the most part! They might as well continue doing tape delayed and edited video playing at 1 am on ESPN! I can imagine most people "don't have" access to TCC! It's not part of a basic cable package! My building's made a deal so I get extras due to so many subscribers, but single families are probably going without and checking stream services! I grew up spoiled when tennis was regularly telecast on the networks! One day around '75, BJK was being shown on 3 channels at the same time; 1 live, 2 taped events! I'm not going to make a big deal about the change in format of tourneys! Even with how things have been laid out helping Fedalovic, the new crop won't have the same success even after their retirements! Medvedev was shocked by Tsitsipas at the YEC in their RR match! Perseus hadn't won in 5 matches! Upsets will occur with today's players that didn't happen much with Fed, Rafa, & Nole! They've been amazing like in no other era before!

Good point on the lack of coverage for ATP events, although I think they're better covered on European channels. I do think if there were a Sampras or Agassi, E!SPN (or maybe FSN or something) would've made a bid for some of these events (ATP Finals, IW, Cincy).

Well that will always be a foible of America; a serious need to be relevant in a topic or sporting event! If they can't run the show, "we take our ball and go home!" It's like soccer is "the sport" in the world! The US has fought it "tooth and nail" even with bona fide competitive teams fielded! We'd rather be associated with sports created here! When it comes to tennis, it boomed with Evert and Connors! It made sense since both #1 in the world! It continued with Sampras, Agassi, Courier, and the Williams sisters; not so much with Martina Navratilova for our own bigoted reasons! Since Roddick, US men have really been out in the wilderness with a true lack of talent until recently! Isner and Querrey just haven't done the job; unlikely the next wave have enough firepower to challenge the likes of Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Thiem, & Zverev! Opelka's got a serve & game to make a mark, but not sure of Tiafoe, Fritz, Johnson, & the rest! They all need a real weapon & right now consistent, solid tennis "ain't gonna do it!" :sneaky:

chill, it was a joke. I didn’t mean any offence, I don’t even know how old are you. No need to get mad over some internet comment, n’est-ce pas?
A bit touchy lately due to some misadventures on another site. Thanks

Or at least one per surface.
Horrible idea given the grueling nature of today's game. Perhaps at WTF with some reformatting, but almost some kind of punishment for the winners doing what you suggest.

Not many players have won Madrid/Rome back to back and Rogers/Cincy back to back in the modern game. Best of five in final would make that impossible.

Given the pace of most of the courts now, you are probably correct. On edit: I still think WTF should go back to BO5 for the final. 1500 points .
