Bye Bye Gulbis

Talent, talent, talent. Talent is very subjective. What is talent? Everybody has his own definition.

You can't say Gulbis is actually talented. If you think he is, that's an opinion. Actually, my view is also an opinion. :)

Do you guys think Söderling is talented?

Well, Robin is talented enough to be world no. 5, while Gulbis is world no. 78 ... plus ... he looks like one of those old-time hollywood film stars ...

Because Gulbis is very talented.

Results >>>>> Talent. I told people 3 years ago to stop hyping this guy before the results matched it, when everyone was calling the guy a future slam champ. Talent alone does not win slams, and it's clear that Gulbis just doesn't have what it takes in the most overlooked category, between the ears, to be an elite player. The constant Safin comparisons are an insult to Safin, who I'm not even a big fan of, but this guy shouldn't be in the same paragraph as an elite player like Safin.

This.

That is all.

Gulbis just wants to compete on tour and have some fun, he doesn't dream of being a champion. I don't understand why posters seem so angry with his results, he isn't.

The guy has a remarkable amount of talent but doesn't really love everything in the sport to fully commit himself to it.

I see some posters can't accept this, why is that?

Well most people hate anyone that doesn't take their job/career seriously. Hate is a strong word, frustration is a better word. It's frustrating for some to see a guy who doesn't give two craps about maximizing his abilities when he has an opportunity right in front of him.

Me personally, I feel like if you're not going to give it your best, you're just wasting your time and taking a spot from someone that actually loves the sport and works their arse off to get to top 100, and someone's just coasting on talent to be top 100. It's an insult to the sport TBH.

If Gulbis looks at tennis as a hobby, then he can just go back to whatever Latvian club or something and stop wasting his time. But most guys look at it for what it is, a career. You have to work to get anywhere in life, this guy's just coasting on talent and his family's good fortune, no pressure to win anything. It's kinda sad in a way. His fans care more about his results than he does.

Talent includes having the mental toughness, which he doesn't have any of. Gulbis isn't that talented compared to the top guys. He can hit like them, but cannot think like them

Thank you! Why is this hard? Why are people struggling with this concept?

Real mental toughness comes from failure not success. It isn't a talent you are born with, it is something that grows within a person through desire and passion to keep going on after failing, to achieve your goals.

An interesting first round match at 2011 Wimbledon, we've got Gulbis, who's lost his last 6 matches in the first round of slams, and we've got Tursunov, who's lost his last 9 matches in the first round of slams.

Who will break their poor streak?

They will probably go for a draw. Both will retire at the exact same time.

That sounds like the opposite of interesting.

No wonder why they're friends.

But Tursunov will win this one.

Tursunov played fantastic tennis...Gulbis was really pathetic in the 4th set TB, particularly lame on match point.

I don't get how a young, talented guy can be content losing on the biggest stages so early. either straighten up or do something else.

Maybe, just maybe he isn't that talented after all.

Talent is more than pounding every ball as hard as you can, praying it to go in. BTW, tell this to 90% of the WTA girls.

He's completely unmotivated and has no work ethic.

It just astounds me how people keep trying to, like, mull this over.
Why is this complicated?
How is it hard?

Better late than never.
Gulbis knocked out by Blake on first round again after serving for the match and leading 4X1 on tie break.
There is no bottom for Gulbis anymore, it is always getting deeper and Cannas will only make it worse.
The Argentinian coaches are only taking his money.
I feel bad for this guy, at least his interviews are the most entertaining ones.

Touched down at LAX headed up the 405 north got off at Victory Blvd and stopped off at the enterpise Rental car place and demanded a 1988 toyota 4 Runner with tinted windows and 33inch tires with Rancho suspenshion and a 3" body lift.

Jumped on the 101 Ventura headed northbound got off at Topanga Canyon blvd and headed west towards Zuma Beach took off my jeans and entered the pacific wearing my rogi 2009 FO shorts the foam lifted me up and carried me up to decker Canyon road where I stopped and met a young lass named Consuela with a red 79 Fiat whereforth she begged for my companionship and I gave into her and then she told me to close my eyes and my mouth and I felt my mortal coil acsend forth over Kanan Road and into the stadium of souls desending courtside where I saw Gulbis take forth his PJ PT 88 in his right hand and in his left the hand of God and pummel Mallisse into submission.

Gulbis GOATed my brains out today. My cerebellum leaked all over the purple computer screens in my head.

Humble european young GOAT. Ernests. Such a stoic lad.

Gulbis fills the gap in the ATP.

So proud of Ernie.

GOATing in LA. Nobody GOATs in LA.

I vote for Gulbis to WIN the US open this year. and surprise everyone. His serve is too big and forehand is too heavy. Federer and Nadal can't handle this kind of power and weight of shots....

Cahill and Cliffy were scarred for life by this match.

Cahill drooling over Gulbis.
