I think i found out how i can tell how i am going to play before the match even starts like in the Morning of the match. I grab my racket and swing it around and if it feels Light and easy to swing then i almost Always play really well that day. If my racket feels kind of Heavy and clunky then i know i am going to have a tough day.
I know, how can your racket feel different ? It is the same racket that you use every week. right ? but I can't explain why it feels different but it does. Does this happen to you and is it a good gauge of how you will play that day ?

I can tell you how I feel before every match, I feel like Im gonna win because I am the best there is out there. Dude... You gotta drip confidence, if you doubt yourself your already behind.

confidence isn't the only thing you need, i can play crappy feeling like i'm the best there ever is. Coonfidence can actually ruin you if you're playing crappy but you feel like a champ (you'll just get mad & confused).

You know like you get up in the morning and your body feel real tired and you lift up the racket to feel the racket. and racket feels kind of heavier than usual. then you know you are not going to play well.

that's all in your head. while that may be good if you feel good going into a match, if you wake up and feel bad you've already psyched yourself out before the match even begins.

I had a bad habit of doing this when I was playing 12s and 14s except for me it was warmups. if I warmed up well I thought I was invincible, but if I didn't feel good in warm ups I'd all but assume a loss before the first point was even played. whether you feel good or bad, work on fighting/ignoring those emotions. if you are feeling good you might have false confidence to go for shots you don't have. if you're feeling bad you may think the loss is inevitable no mater what you do. both will lead to bad results on the court.

how well you play is still within your control. don't let a feling like that affect how hard you are willing to work to get that win. what helped me get over that was that a coach had me envision myself as a cyborg like the Terminator. no emotion. just go out there and do what you're supposed to do.

Check this out. I work, go to school and play tennis a lot. Before i used to feel tired from the moment i woke up, like you. But then i started to eat more often throughout the day and cut greasy food. Also, i'm avoiding bad carbs the most that i can (whole wheat only). And, 1 hour before the match i eat some good amount of carbs (which a lot of pros do) and i have always a very very sweet energy bar on my bag just in case i feel the jitters. Diet is really important

WOW, this could be the best advice of the week. What exactly do you eat during and throughout the day that is so good for the body ??

hey this post read my mind. I wanted to post something like Racquet feeling different in hand some days. But thought people will abuse me so I dint post it. I dont use it to guess my level of play that day but I have noticed the same racquet to weigh more some days than other.
The reason I found was how fit i am. If i lifted weights that week and did some cardio other than tennis, a day or two before the match day then I feel the racquet so light. Doing Tricep workout helps me to make the racquet feeling light.

Yea i have be careful not to do too much Leg lifting 2-3 days before the match because, my knee hurt bad then i play bad too.
Triceps and biceps sound good. Maybe i should just do Triceps and biceps work 2 days before the match ?? What excercise is BEST for this ???

Not really. If I am not well rested, I can usually tell -- reaction time is slow and hand-eye is definitely off. Sometimes on days like that, I'll play ok for a set or so, but it doesn't last.

If you have a USTA match, then it is pretty tough to just play a set and Stop>??

I am not a training expert, I do pullups for arms and back stretch. I just pull the weight using tricep for tricep workout. I use less weight like 32 lbs and do 20 to 30 repetitions. If i still have time I train my bicep with 20 -25 lbs weight.
I dont do leg workout, never felt the need for it. I believe playing tennis itself guarantees you strong legs.

I can't tell. I can feel terrible and play well or feel great and play poorly.

I can also win the first set 6-1, lose the second 1-6 and then win the third set.

Sometimes I think it's not just me. Sometimes my opponent seems to be trying to win.

I lol'd. It's clearly your mindset. But seriously that post was funny because it is so stupid. Get theropy. See a doctor.

for me, it really depends on who i am playing. it's not the racquet or me, it's always one of those guys.

I have found that several factors can affect my performance.Like diet, weather(if it is hot and high humidity),having a hot shower before playing, being too relaxed before going to play. I can tell from the warm up if i have a bad day. When i jog around the court and feel heavy and uncomfortable,i know that my footwork will be lazy that day. However, most of the times i can fight it and still have a decent performance.

I can tell exactly like this too! Some days the racket just feels really heavy.. Other days it feels like nothing's there, and I play brilliantly.

Not a chance! I wake up every day, bright-eyed and bushy tailed, put on my cap, grab my spatula, and I charge into the battle field that is life, shouting my battle cry.

"I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!"

What I've learned over the past bit though is, good players find a way to win even if they're having bad days.

First serve is off? Find a way to win with your second. 2/9 with approach shots? Chip it into a corner instead. Adapt to what your abilities are during that given day, play within yourself.

the 'racket in hand test' is valid - when you are tired, you can't play as well... but that doesn't mean you can't win.

Rather idealistic. Even the top pros will have difficulty winning on a bad day. Sometimes they will be able to make enough of an adjustment to win, sometimes not.

For myself, when I'm having an off day (usually inadequate sleep), my ball toss and serve returns are the first things to go. If I give myself a good toss, I'll usually be able to generate a decent serve. However, it my toss is very erratic, both 1st and 2nd serves will suffer.

Of course, nobody can predict whether they will play well or badly.
If anyone can, there would never be any reason to get mad, throw tantrums, feel sad, or elated when they win.
It's a coin toss, that's why you gotta PLAY the game.

I eat between 7 and 10 times a day. Three main meals and lots of snacks. Every portion of carb that i eat is whole wheat. Lots of tuna, chicken, and red meat. Another really important thing, DO NOT skip the breakfast because you really gonna mess your metabolism. During the matches i drink a strong gatorade (powder) and always have some protein/energy bars in the bag.

I think it just means you had a really good night sleep and your body is totally rested up...a lot of the time people forget to rest their bodies when they train/play tennis..people play 3 to 5 times straight a week and wonder why some days they just can't hit the ball properly!

Good nights sleep really doesn't garantee, i wil feel great next day. This is becoming more and more true. Good night's sleep just the day before the match doesn't help if you had a Lousy week and had really inconsistant and crappy sleeping habits during the week.
