Carlos Alcaraz: "Between winning another Grand Slam or the Olympics, I'll take the gold in Paris"

So what do you see as the H2H between them in 2024 only?
I see high underrating of Carlos after the USOpen. He did not lose to some mug, he lost to Medvedev, a former USOpen champion, in 4 competitive sets.

As a nolefam I have already moved on to the Carlos Sinner gen taking down Nole a lot. Anyone who thinks Nole will be able to dominate Carlos probably doesn't understand tennis. This guy is very ambitious and want stop unless he becomes the best.

Even for AO I think Carlos is a major headache for Nole and great that he will be in opposite half. He is no flash in the pan player, only injuries are going to stop him.

It's going to be the combination of Alcaraz, Sinner and Rune that eventually turn the tide for good against Djokovic. He knows this and has said it before.

Yes but Rune is still 1 year away from challenging Nole I think. I don't rate his exploits in 2023 that much. What do you think.

I want these two Spaniards to beat each other and go out of tournaments. Nadal Carlos
Fight it out in between yourself before all finals.

The guy beat the world number one and defending seven time champion in the final on a court that he had not lost on in 10 years.

Alcaraz shouldn't be getting trashed at all. He's only 20 and he is already a multi time slam champion.

Aye aye Cap'n. Them there land lubbers don't know their aft from their fore, and no mistake!

:-D
Talk about twisting his words.

Hey Rattie - if facts are twisted what value words? Loooool. And don't you just lurve the storyline that Carlos has lost his soul ? I must admit he looked full of soul when playing in Riyadh, but then, I am not an expert in souls.

Wishful thinking by those who find him a threat to their fave, methinks. Nothing new there. As he is only 20 we have years of this to look forward to. Moans about players not being good enough and then when one comes along, desperate to tear him down. The world of TTW lol

Sinner on clay is lesser player than Tsitsipas. Alcaraz is far more natural clay courter than Sinner will be.
The old Tsitsipas i would agree, but where was him on clay this year? Yeah, Alcaraz game is indeed better suited for clay and slow surfaces than Sinner.

Poor old desperate Djokovic will never reach the elite of 21st Century tennis, because your slams mean nothing if you have no Gold.
N
adal's got Singles Gold (2008), Doubles Gold (2016) and also was extremely close to another Singles Gold (2016, lost a thriller to Del Potro semi-final).
I understand that this is your opinion and acknowledge it as such, but have not seen it in the rules or heard it stated by the experts that grand slams won are meaningless unless you also win the OG.

Nadal is the only one of the 3 Maestros to have won the OG, and that adds to his illustrious achievements, of course. For the sake of completeness however, Nadal has never won the World Tour Finals, often deemed to be next important in the calendar after the slams. Djokovic has won it a record breaking 7 times.
Whilst it is 'hats off' to Nadal for having won the OG, your position that Djokovic's GS tally is meaningless because he hasn't won it is simply untenable and from my perspective, wide of the mark.

That said, there is no doubt that the OG has eluded Djokovic, and he is likely to be keen to win it. I'd expect nothing less from all on the tour for whom the OG has significance.

Yes, Tsitsipas was getting trashed by Alcaraz like usual. Sinner was choking as usual. One got up and had a great end of the year, guess which one that is? can Tsitsipas even remain in the top 10 after AO?
Of course not and still he will be favored vs Sinner on clay.

Plus Tsitsipas will come BACK into top 10. There are many who love to see people Fall. But I am not one of them.

He is still yet to prove he got his soul back. Losing the next 2 matches against Djokovic, losing the next slam and losing the n.1 plus YEn.1 are pointing to the other way. Perhaps it is too soon for any conclusions, we will see how he fares in Australia.
Well second part of the season he normally drops a lot of intensity, atp finals Is indoor, his worst sunface, cincinatti was a hell of a match and he was being the better player for the most part, hes 20, i think some ups and downs are normal, i think hes gonna be back to his best shape by Australia, we will see

And Djokovic was crying after losing the Olympics in 2008, and also cried in the most recent Olympics.
It appears to hurt him more than any other loss.

So you can still dope.
Of course the key to keep your levels below detectable levels.

I have a suspicion that a large part of sudden decline in professional athletes is actually just them cycling off. Once you get paid it makes sense to not risk long term health consequences.

Also the missing 3 tests is likely someone with poor discipline. Someone with excellent discipline would never test positive. They also would delay any test until after their matches. They probably would dose before the match so they get the maximum benefit and flush it out with all the hydration and exertion.

And you expect Djokovic to beat Nadal at RG, in a Bo5?
The only reason Djokovic has had minor success against Nadal at Bo3 clay matches, post 2011, is because Nadal has won those pigeon 1000 MonteCarlo and Rome events 10 times each or whatever. He has only truly peaked his game at RG for the last decade. But if you think Nadal wont bring his RG game in a Bo3 in the Olympics, then youre in for a surprise.

Fully expect it. Djokovic is still in top physical shape. We will see about Nadal.

If Nadal is even at his 2022 self, I dont see it happening. You Djokovic fans have been spoiled seeing Djokovic dominate this ridiculously low level current top 10, and think Djokovic is greater than he actually is. Anyone can look good against weak competition. This is literally the WEAKEST top field in the history of tennis barring Alcaraz and Sinner (who are puppies and still inconsistent as hell). As soon as the level rises, that will be more of a test for Djokovic

"I want to win another Grand Slam and a medal at the Olympic Games and if I only have to say one of those achievements I would take gold in Paris 2024 because it would be a dream come true for me"

I like that mentality since it is a more rare and coveted accomplishment in sports as a whole over just tennis.

Sinner seems to get even further than Alcaraz, from Ubitennis:

'I think that every personality, every athlete has a different vision. From my perspective, as you only play every four years, winning a medal, whatever colour/type, carries a different weight.'

One can disagree but the opinions of the guys actually playing matter a lot.

The legacy of the big players of the last decade have influenced the current crop which will leave a lasting impression on the next guys…
