Chris Edwards on Volkl Super G 10 295g

I've never read a review for a racquet under 12 oz. that Chris liked in which he didn't add, "After I put a leather grip and some lead on this to get it to my spec, I'll love this racquet."

Chris's review of the Volkl Super G 10 295g says he'd be tournament-ready at stock specs, 11 oz. strung with a fairly low SW.

!!!!!!!

I'm currently playing with and loving the C10 Pro but love the idea of an equivalent racquet at lower weight (so that I can maintain racquet head speed in that third set on a hot day).

Chris or board posters, any add'l experience with the Super G 295g or other thoughts?

I just got in a real hit with mine for the first time today. I had used it for feeding a couple of times, and it is a great racquet for that task. I had demoed the non Super G version several times and owned the PB 10 295, so I wasn't stepping into completely uncharted territory.

It is pretty darn solid in stock form. Extremely solid on volleys, considering its weight. Not super low powered, but low powered enough with the poly hybrid that full strikes are needed to consistently keep the ball deep. The X10 295 demos were strung with multi and had plenty of pop. Great spin with my hybrid and good feel on touch shots. It does not approach the magic feel of my Fisher Pro No1 UL (295g), but is no slouch.

My only nit-pick would be the lack of predictability on slightly off center hits. Easy fix -- hit the ball cleanly. :) This stick definitely punches above its weight class.

Love mine, especially after 1/2 oz in the buttcap and about 8" of 1/4" lead tape at 10 and 2.

** Correction - mine is the Organix 10 ***

I think coming from hitting the Six.One 95S pretty much in stock form into this playtest made it more of a step than a leap to the feel and response of the Super G 10 295.

As also stated here, the racquet plays very solidly for its weight -- something I like about this racquet and also liked in the PB10 Mid albeit at a different spec.

Like the Six.One 95S I have not yet felt the need to modify the 10 295 as I like the way it plays stock very much. I like my ability to generate racquet head speed with it very much. That speed adds spin and pace. I'm also impressed by how the ball still penetrates the court with this racquet -- something lacking in other similarly weighted racquets such as the new Yonex Si 98/100.

Hope that helps and I recommend you book yourself a demo.

Cheers,
Chris, TW

Hey Chris, I use the Six.One 95s as well. Out of curiosity, why have you not been tempted to put any lead at noon? In a lot of your previous racquet reviews, you seemed to be predisposed to usually wanting a little more weight in the tip. This frame seems a little tip-light, low swing weight. How do you fight the urge to put lead at noon?

Thanks!

I have to say that is pretty interesting. As a huge fan of the Tfight 315 and the PS95, this frame is intriguing. Andy liked the more plush feel of the PS95 and found more control as well. That being said, the fact that you are playing this frame at stock weight is rather impressive, especially since I believe we are somewhat close in usual spec preference (my PS95 is weighted to 345 grams, with a SW of around 320).

At the end of the day I'd need to try one out, but I'd love to hear any downsides you are experiencing from playing at that low weight.

It sounds like the Volkl may have a little more power and pop then a leaded up PS95, which is rather interesting.

Also the ConnorsPaintJob - does it deliver in person?

Local store was ill informed and had a different model when I showed up. They don't stock this frame around here at all. Ill probably try a demo from TW.

Damn. That sucks. I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Let us know if you end up getting to demo one.

Good news - I got one coming from TW along with a PS95S. So between my PS95 and the S demo I should have a really good idea of how it plays in comparison.

this is Volkl's best organix frame in my opinion. it is a lighter players frame that is fast and stable. it gives you some pop and great control for a 16x19. love this frame with kb proline evolution.

As a result of this thread, I will be demoing this frame. I am afraid that if I like it with the multi strings, I will have to refer back to Mikeler's Multis after a good year of playing with all kinds of co-polys!

My only concern is losing depth control. I hit a higher ball with this racquet so getting depth is not an issue. When weighting other spin racquets I've found the added depth of the spin pattern, plus the added depth from the weight, made it tougher to control depth. I have also been enjoying hitting it in stock form so have not played around with adding weight to it recently.

Chris you are the king of sales. I could not get a demo of this frame for a week and there none left in stock in 1/4 or 3/8ths.

Still got one, but I had to look around. If I love the frame, ill buy the rest from TW.

Regardless, this frame is selling like hotcakes it appears.

Initial impressions - I agree with Chris. No mods needed for me. Mine weighed 296 grams and is a little head heavy. Wonder what the balance is on his?

Not sure the SW - I will get it measured, but the racquet came through the air easily, yet still had very nice power and plow.
