Confession: I kinda like nylon now

?? Why is it a confession that someone likes nylon or multi, whatever the case may be. They are great strings, they make the ball go fast and make good noise.

I feel like I have to confess that I don't like poly ;)

Because, it's the "in" thing to do to only string with polyester. Most people on the TT forums claim to use poly, whether they've been playing for 3 months or 30 years.

My point to all of this is that I'm accepting the fact that nylon strings work better for my game than poly strings do. Sure, I get slightly less spin, but that can be remedied with technique, or tighter tensions.

It's easy to be drawn into the hype that recreational players NEED polyester strings, in order to perform at their best. I just don't agree with this anymore.

Sure, you can use poly if you want, but it might actually be holding your game back, and you won't know until you've truly given some sort of nylon string a try... be it syn gut or multi or whatever.

As to "changing the title" because I'm using multis, that's not the point, and I don't like splitting hairs for this particular concept. Which kind of nylon string isn't important, because each person is different, and we all enjoy different string performance.

Some people may enjoy plain old synthetic gut. Others may like a multifilament. Who cares in the end? They are all nylon strings -- but they are not poly, and that is the important point.

Totally agree...and that's what I was hinting at in my post. Many people use poly for the wrong reason (their favorite pro uses it, they feel they need more spin even though it's really a technique issue, they just use whats recommended by their stringer and don't really know, etc...)

Nylons are great performing strings and more people should use it.

And ... Its no knock on your abilities to use nylon even though no one famous uses it.

I prefer natural gut, then multis. I like them better and they suit me better at this point. That said, I also enjoy trying out and playing with polys as well. I have no other reason to play with them as I'm not a huge hitter, I don't break strings and my game is not predicated on heavy topspin (although generating more spin is something I work on as I'd like to have that ability). Still, I enjoy playing with them. So far, they've felt fine to me. Not as nice as gut or Biphase, but still comfortable.

I just like trying different strings.
