some blockbuster matches here. Novak will play, Murray is out but Norrie and Draper will take on Djokovic together and hope to beat him. and Canadians will try to win using FAA as weapon

How much energy does the old wolf have left to compete and try to give glory to his country for the second time in the Davis Cup Finals?
PS: OP, it is spelled Malaga in english.

I don't understand why Djokovic and Murray would play Davis Cup at this stage of their career considering they already won the Davis Cup.

Novak said he wants to win the Davis cup for his country ONE more time. He sees this as his last chance, he probably has no plans to play davis cup anymore with very busy schedule next year with Olympics, and year after that, he will be close to retiring, may retire mid 2025, most likely so yea,, this is his last chance to win one more for his Country and his buddies.

And you have to figure, they have a good team this year and with Novak still playing great tennis right now, there is good chance they will win the davis cup with Novak on the team.

Of course, he will, did you see what welcome Serbs gave him and their basketballers in September?

The era of Troicki Tipsarevic and Zimonjic is long over...
Don't see how Djere or Lajovic can beat Draper in these Indoors courts. Very unlikely upset here.
And then Great Britain has Salisbury and Skupski, 2 top-10 in doubles. Serbian double players all suck.
It will take a miracle for Djokovic's team to win this quarterfinal. Let's be honest. He is going to get disappointed.

Novak really loves his country and he will try to will his teammates to win,,, and if they don't win,,, i think consequences could be bad for Djere and Lajovic,,, i think they will try and give 140 % because of this.

DJOKOVIC ARRIVES AHEAD OF GB CLASH
20 Nov 2023

Fresh from a record seventh ATP Finals title, Novak Djokovic arrived in Malaga on Monday ahead of Serbia's quarter-final tie against Great Britain on Thursday.
Entering a record-extending 400th week as world No.1, Djokovic joins his teammates, including Laslo Djere and Dusan Lajovic, to prepare for what is shaping up to be a thrilling showdown between the Serbians and Leon Smith's Great Britain, led by world No.18 Cameron Norrie.
The tie is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday 23rd November (not before 16:00 CET) and is the last of the four quarter-finals in the 2023 Davis Cup Final 8.

A year ago would have sounded different, this year we really don't have a solid #1 singles player unless he can somehow pull it together but even then Djokovic wouldn't lose to the best version of Norrie anyway. It all rides on Draper winning the second rubber and Salisbury/Skupski forming a solid doubles team as they don't normally play together.

Seriously, your hate for the tennis player you do not even personally know is likely a sign of mental illness.

I am telling you this is the only occasion where these guys give 120 % and guy ranked 100 plays like he's top 10 player. This is the only time when you can see that,,, not sure why. something about patriotism and playing for your country. Only time you don't see that elevation in play is with american players,,,that is bit sad but when money matters the most and your success is measured by how much money you make,,, i suppose that's what happens....

Both FAA and Ruusuvuori pulled out??
Are they both injured? They were at the event party and photo shoots.
I recall Diallo and Galarneau performed well to get Canada here, so if FAA is out and they have Raonic in then it's not a complete disaster for Canada. Finland not playing Ruusuviori puts a lot of pressure immediately on Virtanen who played so well for Finland to get here. Virtanen basically has to win this and then Heliovaara playing in the doubles at least gives them a shot. Canada likely playing Pospisil, not sure who is best to combine with him for doubles, maybe Raonic as they're the same generation? Not sure of anyone's doubles prowess outside of the dedicated doubles players.

Team Orange looking strong...
The Davis Cup website is so bad. Do we know the matchups for tomorrow?

Honestly, I would play Sonego in the second spot, or perhaps even Arnaldi. Anyone but Musetti, who is completely unreliable.

And if it comes down to doubles, maybe play Sinner there if he is serving as well as he did in Torino and Vienna.

If it comes down to the doubles, we're in deep doodoo... (as is Serbia, by the way)

Matchups are announced shortly before game time. There are some rumors Sinner could actually sit the first one out (which means the first one may well be the last one...) Otherwise, second single should be Arnaldi, even though he hasn't played for a while due to unspecified family/personal issues. Sonego is a possibility, while Musetti should indeed be left out. However, as the "golden boy" of the federation and Volandri's teacher's pet, I wouldn't exclude he ultimately gets the nod (though I doubt they'd really be doing him a favor).

Yes, if Sinner skips the first tie, they have a strong chance of being eliminated immediately.

And I'm glad you are on team 'anyone-but-Musetti.' His on court attitude is so frustrating to watch. That he is the favorite of the federation somehow doesn't surprise me. It's like Zaniolo on the national team... it makes absolutely no sense.
