Feels like Davydenko was a strong era stalwart in comparison, consistent in both racking up small titles and showing up in slams besides Wimbledon (made 8/9 non-WB QFs in 05-07). Teat probably isn't making a slam final in his time.

As a lifelong Agassi fan I always found Davydenko a less exciting, less bald, more chokey, more questionable practise engaging, poor mans, cheap Russian knock off.

And as a Nadal fan he hurt my feelings.:cautious:

Still better than Tsitsipas, though I'd probably prefer watching Stef play tennis between the two of them. Also have to take into account that when he was Tsitsipas's age, Davydenko had accomplished basically nothing of any significance.

Davydenko was the better player. That could change depending on how Tsitsipas fares from here on out, but I’d take Nikolay at this point in time. Should also note that Davy peaked a bit later than usual: his results at Tsitsipas’s age weren’t super remarkable.

Citybus (that’s right I said Citybus modz) would get smothered by Davy hugging the baseline taking the ball on the rise consistently. Especially on HC with the big wind ups/cuts he takes at the ball. He’d also expose Citybus’s ROS moar with his aggressive court positioning. Now clay these weaknesses would be mitigated to give Citybus a better matchup, but then we have to remember that Davy played peak/prime RAFA extremely close in Rome 07.

Like asking who was better: Lendl or Tiafoe.

A real head scratcher!

Answer is Davydenko. He was not a choker.
Davydenko had a reputation for being a mental midget. He was a great player but there were some obvious failings in the mental strength department lol

Nadal was infinitely better then as well, particularly on clay. Tsitsipas isn't matching prime Nadal or even Federer on clay in a million matches, komon lal.
Sure I'm not taking Tsits over prime Nadal or Fed on clay lol but I'm not taking Davy either what's your point. What's Davy's best win at the French Robredo in 5? Fat Dave? Why does Tsitsipas have to beat Nadal to be as good as Davy?

Pushing peak/prime Nadal to a 3.5-hour 7-6(3) 6-7(8) 6-4 win is better than any loss to oldal, actually better than any close win too. That match is super underrated as Bo3s typically go, takes Madrid 09 to get recognised...

And I said matching. Davydenko didn't beat Fedal but he closely matched them in those 07 matches. The RG semi was admittedlt an exercise in choking but Tsitsipas couldn't push Federer that close in the first place.

I suppose this is assuming Tsitsipas has peaked already right? Because Davydenko didn’t do anything until at least age 24, Tsits is a Slam Finalist and owns wins over Nadal and Federer (heavily old and declined versions, but still) in Bo5 at the AO.

Don’t think Davy even made a Slam QF until he turned 24. So it’s a little unfair of a comparison.

if we assume Tsits doesn’t get exceptionally better -

Better tennis player? Davy

Better athlete and serve/power: Tsitsipas

Better competition to the tour in general: Davy, Tsitsipas can get outplayed and dominated rather easily due to his return flaws

Better results (by far, not even a contest): Tsitsipas

However Tsits could turn into Pete lite in his mid-20s, who knows. He most likely won’t but I think he has a higher ceiling than Davydenko did. He will definitely not reach it by sticking with Dad and Patrick “coaching violation” Mouratoglou though.
