Del Potro, about his racquets and possible change (spanish)

See this guy gets it. Thanks man, have no idea what McLovin has issues with. Maybe he's not skilled enough to do these things or maybe he doesn't wrap his grips the same way each time, etc.

There's no need to attack. If you had read a few posts down, you would have come across this:

OK, after further review, I must admit I am wrong. I looked at a bunch of images of Federer hitting, and you two seem to be correct in that he always hits w/ the white side down.

Please accept my humble apologies.

But, to answer your attack, I do not believe 'skill' has anything to do w/ feeling the difference between 'up' and 'down' of the racquet. After posting the above, I went out on the court and spun my racquet around a bunch of times. I honestly cannot tell the difference.

Lol, ya, I saw that after I read back a page. Anyway, you shouldn't need to be on court to spin your racquet. Lol. Do it at home. Also, type of grip and racquet will sometimes matter on the grip feel. Where you started the grip when you or the factory wrapped it will also dictate the feel. Post what you're using, maybe a pic if you want so we can get an idea why it's harder for you, but like I said, for those of us that do this all the time innately, it's no big deal to do it. Looks BOSS on court. Lol ;)

Racquets are Pacific X Force Pro:

Overwrap is Wilson Pro. However, I am 'goofy' in that while I am right handed, I wrap my grip for a lefty. If by 'type of grip' you mean how do I hold the racquet, then I'm probably more Eastern than anything.

I've tried multiple times now, on the court, in my living room, and still cannot feel a difference. Maybe its best I don't worry about it. God knows I already worry too much about strings, tension, overwrap, dampener, etc. I really don't need one more thing to be OCD about...

Maybe it's the way you wrap the grip or something. Look at the grip from the side closer to the butt cap as you turn the racquet. If that bevel looks all uniform, then that's probably why you can't feel it. Either way, if I had those sticks, the orange part of the logo would always be up or down, lol. Also, when I spin mine, I use my left to spin from the throat on it and then stop it with my right as I feel the throat flip over 360 degrees. Trust me, it may seem hard if you've not done it, but it's not after a while. A couple of years ago, I couldn't flip my racquet like Fed while waiting to receive. It wasn't fast and smooth like he does it. I have to be honest, I wanted to do it cuz I think it looks cool, so I kept doing it even it it wasn't perfect until my hands started to get accustomed to doing it. Now it's no big deal and second nature and much faster. I need to learn that helicopter spin and flip, but I'm scared I'll hit myself or the racquet will fly off unintentionally. Lol

I have a friend who can do that but can't do the ball bounce off the edge of the frame. It's so weird how the human body and mind works to develop these skills with a little bit of repetition.

Yep, I looked again at your sticks. The orange X would have to be on top for me. Then XForce can be read properly. Yes, I know, I'm weird. Lol

I'll let you in on another small nuance about both Fed and Nadal. Look at how they put on their wristbands. Nadal puts the Nike Swoosh so it can be seen right side up by others and Fed puts his on so the swoosh is right side up for him if he was to look at it like a watch face. Ehhh? Who else has noticed that? I wear mine like Nadal tho. Lol

I have read this post three times now and I am still shaking my head..

I mean, it's great that you want to emulate Roger, but I would probably start with the FH and move on to the serve, not so sure about the BH, but it isn't too shabby..

as for the spin and the bounce off the frame, look, really?

the spins I can't help you with but I reckon you could get the bounce to work by switching to a larger head..

cheers

Not really sure you understood the post.

I've been back playing for a while, like 4 years. Before that I played in HS a long time ago. I didn't say I had issues with any of my strokes, not sure why you think that I do. Anyway, the tricks thing, the helicopter spin is the only thing I don't do. The other stuff is easy, like bouncing the ball off the edge of the frame.

Maybe you misread or I wasn't clear enough. Anyway...

Maybe I'm just naive, but why is DelPo in this situation again? He's ranked #5 in the world. He must be one of Wilson's most important clients. Why can't they just send a team to evaluate the specs of his remaining rackets, duplicate them, and then paint them to match whatever model Wilson wants him to endorse? This doesn't seem like rocket science, yet he currently has 3 rackets left.

I think he's anal down to the paintjob, as in he won't let people paint over his frames.

Looks like 13 grams of lead at 3 and 9. Similar to Berdych and Wawrinka. Anyone have his SW number?

At today's Stuttgart grass tournament, Del potro's Wilson that was painted black with gold highlighting, along with the big "W", sure looked like the longish oval head and extra lumps of weight that the K-6 was known for. Like a few players who have trouble with using a different maker's game asw the9r carrere was coming to the end, Like Davidenko and Blake, a racquet that becomes to feel like an extension of your hand, it's difficult for them to change. But if they are highly ranked or get a lot of press, like Delpo's multiple surgeries, the brand that helped them get to the high point of their game, a big company will make a custom racquet for them that is painted to look like a production model, yet this paint job looks different than any other racquet Wilson currently produces.
So if Del potro can make a big come-back into, say, the top 10, Wilson may just come out with a "new" racquet that has most of the specs of another5 one that was popular, give it a new name and start selling a whole new line again.
An example may be when Farrer changed from his Prince Pro 'extended length ' racquet, the first few matches he played with the 'new' Babolat Pure Drive extend racquet that was a lot more thin than the production ones were. But after a while, he either made at he adjustment, or Babolat has made the adjustment unnecessary for him, by making the materials thinner in the head, to make it plat like his sold Prince did. I had started playing and coaching kids, after putting down the stick in '92. I bought a Wilson with a 195" head, that was painted like the 105" K-6 was, but a much cheaper, pre-strung frame called a K-Bold. It was nice, but way to head heavy and the overall weight was to little to hit with, like I used to. So I learned how to add weight with lead, had the racquet restrung to a lighter weight and it felt much better, but as I found other racquets and donated some to kids I was coaching, I found 3 racquets I really love. A Babolat Y-109, strung at 52mX47c with Asway ZX mono gut, a Prince Silver O-port 118" strung with gamma Live Wire 17 gauge mains & gamma Tnt 17 cr at 43 lb m X 38 are fantastic , but an old oddball Pro-Kennex Composite Destiny, that I used to use from about '85-92 I restrung myself, when I bought a used Klippermate stringer and used Gamma Syngut, at 40lbs mains X 35pound crosses, using a stringing design I tried, after Wilson came out with their "S-pin" racquets, that had sewer crosses than mains, I just skipped every other hole on the crosses to get the effect and added a bunch of weight to the handles, using (I can hear the laughs from here, guys) old silverware with the fork ans spoons broken off, underneath the gamma gell replacement grips, is really MY FAVORITE STICK, OFF ALL!
Ok, I sure did "digress", so I hope you guy's don't mind TOO much, but my original point was, if the POro is ranked high enough, who knows what he plays with, or what people Think they use, as long as 'it sells on Monday, when it helped them win on Sunday!' Extra points for those who know where and what that last quote was from.

From the car business. When a certain model car wins an auto race (e.g., Nascar) on Sunday, the car dealers expect to sell more of that model in their showrooms on Monday. :)

Full Alu. Look at any player known to play full Alu in the sunlight, that's simply how the string looks when light shines on it.

dude i've seen his racquet during practice and seen it after it was freshly strung. They've also said it on tennis channel various times...

That guy with the rf97 and the white shirt spoke to me after, he was deplo's interim coach for miami and showed me gut crosses. Del potro isn't crazy to play full alu after having 3 wrist surgeries.

That's at nigh in the dark without a major light source like the sun. No shine on the gray ALU mains but you can clearly see transparent gut crosses.

At night there is a major light source...the court lights. Just like there is a shadow on one arm and glare on the other strings will catch light differently. If you are looking at photos try to compare the outside of the frame where the mains and crosses pass each other to their tie off. At that location light will be hitting them the same.

I did find this photo which appears to show the crosses to be more translucent when backlit.

I do trust someone with eyes on the string more than a photo though.

My cousin watched him play today. I just spoke with him. One of the guys in Delpo's box told him he has been using a gut hybrid since Miami. He is not playing with full bed ALU anymore. Also gave him a signed shirt. Super cool guy (and team) from what I've been told.

And what is his racquet? A PSC or HPS stretch ?
I've always thought it was a HPS stretch, it even says it on wikipedia and he used it extensively in his junior years. BUT, I'm sure even Delpo doesn't know whats under the paint, he just knows it's his racquet with paint over it. Most pros aren't sure about what they are using, all they know is it works.

It looks more clearly gut in cross. Last match on clay with Thiem He still used full Alu

Seriously, how you people are able to specifically distinguish one string to the next from a 3rd person's perspective, on an object that is moving fast and often results in a blur is beyond me.

This is some top quality bs here.

Here is the finest BS I could produce. The racquet is, for our purposes, stationary relative to the shutter speed of the camera. I did some high tech CSI work.
