Yes I find that the shape of sole looks more like vapor zoom 6 and 8 retails.I don't understand why nike doesn't keep the same shape...

Probably ranted about this in previous threads, but will reiterate here - people claim they want Fed spec shoes, but I still believe they'd be borderline unusable.
As you can see by the pics at the top, Federer's shoes are deceptively different but all these changed are there to cater for a personal preference of his (and as you can see in all top athletes, these are down to minute details and preferences), and to make them as effective as possible. These shoes are probably custom moulded and designed to cater for individual needs and to offer optimum performance, rather than practicality or longevity. They probably last a ridiculously short amount of time and the other differences offered would have no effect unless you live in them day in, day out and have the ability of Federer himself.
Long story short; people would buy them, then complain that they lasted 20 minutes and that they're uncomfortable

And I agree - I wouldn't be shocked if the top pros have less rubber on the bottoms or a softer variant - they don't care if the shoes last 3 practices (to break in) and 1 match. If people bought those they'd be filing lawsuits.

I imagine it's a bit like racing tires - not going to last, but going to give maximum grip for that brief time. Useless for retail, but perfect for professionals

Jordan just didn't think to have PE's and customizations or he would have. It's not going to happen. Move on. Or like @kimguroo and others, learn how to re-create them.

In an old article on TW, which I'm not sure is still available, a Nike designer admitted that Federer wears custom-lasted shoes that are very wide. Those who have purchased Federer's actual shoes noted that he has a wide shoe at the ball of the foot but not a particularly wide toe-box.

Top level pros can probably get their shoe sponsors to make them custom lasted shoes these days if needed. The cost is trivial compared to the benefit of better play and therefore more exposure for the brand. Also, from what I've seen, Federer doesn't care at all about durability. In a video interview of Federer in Australia, he shows a line of new shoes he was given for the single tournament. There appeared to be more than one new pair for each potential match.

Embroidered logos cost more money and Nike will always try to keep the cost to manufacture to a minimum (sometimes in more questionable ways than others).

The cost to mass produce Fed's PE shoes would simply not stack up for Nike in a retail/commercial capacity.

Maybe do some twitter poll, "Hey, Fed fans, which of these two pairs of shoes would you rather buy, Emerald or White?" or "What colors should be the focal point for this upcoming season?"

I don't know why they don't just release everything from each tournament. It's just more money for them. Give us all the wristbands and headbands, give us all the socks, give us all the shoes.

I understand player exclusives but hell the pro shoes and shorts and shoes are all wayyy nicer than the commercial stuff, and I doubt Federer or Nadal care if the fans can buy everything they wear, they only wear any given outfit/kit for a few weeks and then they get a whole new one!

Nike likes the buzz. Free advertising when there are stories about lines outside stores when some new Limited Edition drops. Just like Apple making sure they always sell out of iPhones. I'm w you.

It was just some, in fact very few. Most of the time Jordan was wearing the same pair as retail, at least from the looks department. Maybe there were some modifications made to his pairs that you couldn't see from the outside but since I don't own any of MJ's personal pairs I'm not much help there.

The Air Jordan 5 had some of the PE stitching with the #23, and then when he came back from retirement the first time he had a Jordan 11 with a #45 on the back that was never available at retail. Other than that I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Consider Nike only started selling Authentic Football shirts in the last years, I think they hardly sell anything that isn't just replica made too look alike. Many people had no idea the replicas were totally different then the so called "Code 7" shirts which were only available if a store got some leftovers, I think the shoes are even at a bigger difference between pro and retail.
While retail are usually made in Thailand, China etc, the pro's are made in places like Romania, Czech Republic even UK or Spain for example.
Even the authentics they sell now for over 100$ a piece have some differences to what players actually wear ( the size system they used isn't from S to XL but in numbers, like from 1 to 7 )
I actually wonder if the Nike shirts they sell with RF and Nadal are just replicas too or just modified version of the authentic.

Just minor differences from the retail ones. I own a couple federer match wore apparel and several more "custom athlete" RF clothing. Have not had chance to get a pair of match wore shoes yet
