Have mixed feelings about French Open..I have been through this...Winning AO and getting all excited about French open and then getting massively disappointed year after year..

Sometimes it was the weather..2012 FO..Sometimes it was a thriller.2013 Semi Final against Nadal..Sometimes it was bad health..2014..French Open Final..Sometimes it was pure nervousness and opponent goating.. 2015 FO Final..Sometimes it was bad bad weather and opponent playing great..2019 Semis..

It just does not happen it for him there..If he doesnt win here this year, he should just do a Federer on French Open..Just omit or least prioritize it in his schedule..

If it had to happen it should have happened between 2011 and 2016..that's when he was at his best.. I mean winning more than 1 times,obviously..

And yet year after year after year after year he makes either SF or F or wins it. Such a poor performance, huh?

I know what you mean, I want to see him win another RG more than I want to see him win another AO, Wimb or USO. It's just so frustrating that he's stiil stuck at 1 and I'm sure Nadal fans feel the same about AO.

Not because of superstition. No point steering the pot with the other fan bases. They are vile enough as is. Once he's truly the GOAT, we'll rub it in.
But he already IS! And I really do not care about the feelings or perception of other fan bases. They are entitled to think whatever they want. I think he is the GOAT and it is MY right to address him the way I feel or see fit regardless of how hurt by my addressing other sissies may be :)

I want to see Novak play. If he ain't injured, he should play Miami. Clay season is already dependent on the favorite Nadal, so there is no point 'saving' himself on clay
I’m actually happy he’s resting. He’s spending time with his family, saving his energy and getting over his injury. He’s not gonna play or go all out in these masters tournaments anymore. It’s all about the slams and also olympics this year.

He’s getting older and needs to preserve his body and peak at right times. For clay season he can also pick and choose what he plays and what he goes deep in. I think it’s a good strategy.

The year has gone about as well for Djokovic continuing to add weeks as it could. His only real competitors for YE No. 1 assuming Djokovic has a routine year for him is Nadal and Medvedev unless someone like Rublev or Tsitsipas has a real breakthrough year at slams.

Nadal added nothing at the ATP Cup and has lost points since then. He is still the biggest threat for YE No. 1 in my opinion, but the five times he has gotten YE no. 1 are all years he has won 2 slams. With USO going to a faster court, I just don't thing that is likely to happen this year or ever again.

Medvedev has chipped away a little by doing well at ATP Cup and getting to the finals at the AO. But he really missed an opportunity by only adding 90 points at Miami. While he did well at MC the last time it was played, I just do not have much confidence that he can really suddenly become a great clay courter or grass player. Even if he does somehow gain enough points to take over number 1, it will be brief because he has so many points to protect from Cincinnati on.

I think that all the other players are likely to split points among them allowing Djokovic to maybe continue to be number 1 the whole year and into next year. He is unlikely to have 16,000 points, but keeping no 1 for as many weeks as possible is great for his resume. If he does stay no 1 all year, I believe he would have 352 weeks at number one. I am hoping he can actually be the first to 400 weeks, but that may be hard because he is not focusing so much on this record any more.

At this point, I have him guaranteed at 322 and likely many more.

The weeks are going to continue to rack up, even when he loses it at some point, he is still likely going to regain it again as he continues to go deep and possibly win more slams.

I agree. I think it was wise to bail on the Miami Open event though I was disappointed. His coach has said while he is cutting back, he is likely only going to cut 2 or 3 tournaments at the most. And this year we have the Olympics adding to an already crowded schedule.

He obviously would like to have more YE No. 1s and the more weeks at No. 1, the better. However, he has to manage his body. I suspect his pullout of Madrid was directly related to Medvedev losing at Miami.

It's about the longevity aspect. He wants to be around for a while yet, if he gets that balance with his body, family, and profession, there will be plenty of chances to continue to build on those numbers.

He will be at 353 weeks on 1/1/22 if he holds the No 1 all year. My quick calculations suggest that is within a week or two of being correct.

However, the Graf record doesn't mean much to me, not because she is a woman, but because of the Seles stabbing. There is no way she would have as many weeks or as many slams if not for that incident. Unfortunately, her deranged fan who stabbed Seles got exactly what he wanted.

I wouldn't have compared it, even if Seles wasn't stabbed. Doesn't matter at all to me if he does overtake her personally.

Not playing between AO and Monte Carlo, that's like, a longer break than the off-season. Good on him I guess for sneaking that in there. Hopefully we don't get what happened in 2019 when he took a similarly long break after the AO and came back super rusty.
I think it’s brilliant. Let the body heal and just treat clay as a warmup with a small chance at a slam. Even if he is rusty the entire clay season what’s the worst that happens, Rafa wins by a bigger margin?
