Djokovic signs with Asics?

This just showed up on the adidas webstore. Two ways to read this: he's staying, or more likely, they're pushing out the clay shoe early. They're not selling any other clay shoe model ...

Good looking shoe. Will work nicely with Nole's 2016 RG Uniqlo shirt that I already own.

Did exactly that a few days ago (looked better than I played sadly). Got those almost as soon as they were released since I play on clay a lot and love B7s. This also very well may have been the last chance to get those for that surface. Felt a bit lighter imo.

From today's practice in Monte Carlo. Looks like the black GR7s he was rocking earlier.

Looks like he keeps changing between the two. Maybe he's still trying to decide. Adidas realesed two Novak pros since his first GR7 video, so the whole situation is extremely weird. Looks like no one apart from the people on this forum noticed the change, but I guess it's not that surprising considering the reporters asked Berdych about wearing Novak pros only after their match at Wimbledon.

The situation isn't weird. He's probably under contract with Adidas till Jan 1st.

He's either actually switching or just getting leverage in his negotiations with adidas.

Adidas is probably trying to move everything Novak related asap in case he does go to Asics.

I think he signed a contract with adidas in december 2012 so January sponsor change would make sense from that point of view. I saw some websites listing the new navy b7s as AO18 model though, so I just wonder if they know something more than we do.

To be honest... I have always been fine with Gel. If adding a new thing like BOOST jacks the price up 40 bucks I'll pass.

They *could* add their Fly Lite foam... but look at the price of those Court FFs. Just not worth it until massive sales... but in that same sale a person can grab a pair of Resos for 80 bucks... too good of a deal

You can now grab a pair of Court FFs for $109.

Good news for you Nole clones and wannabes, you'll be able to get the Novak Barricades for like 4 bucks and a half-punched Starbucks card if he goes to Asics.

I agree with that it's either a switch or leverage.

But would Adidas be granted a period of grace if he goes to Asics?
I mean, his name, face and personal logo are all over those shoes, and I can't really see that Asics+Novak would allow any use of his personal brand as soon as an Asics contract is up and running. Those Adidas shoes would have to be sold before 1/1-2018, and since nothing's public yet, the sales window will be slim to non-existing. Perhaps a year end super discount? I think perhaps Adidas will take it's losses rather than undersell its brand.

I was wondering the same thing about the old stock.

I don't think they would be available at the same time…maybe at discount places like TJ Max. Adidas would have to cut their losses probably.

Maybe they'd donate all the old Nole stuff to charity and write it off.

I guess our question will be answered by what TW is still selling after the 1st if Novak goes to Asics.

Your original statement made perfect sense imo.

There is no market where Asics is anywhere close to competing with Adidas, so I agree Lacoste would most likely feel more comfortable with Novak playing in a shoe like Asics with a less distracting brand and silhouette and less of a direct competitor in several of Lacoste's key markets. I'm always interested in these apparel brands and how they work out this sponsorship situation when they can't offer their sponsored player suitable hard goods in their branding to go with their clothing.

I didn't even know that Asics is making tennis shoes. I currently wear them for running (I mix in New Balance) and always considered Asics a niche running player with a loyal following.

You must be kidding me, Asics Gel Resolution is one of the best tennis I've tried. It's like the chile of Barricade and Cage, but better than both.

And yes, Asics Noosa is always my most favorite running shoes of all time.

Agree with the 1st statement, but personally, I like the Gel Nimbus for running. Quite possibly the most comfortable running shoe I've ever worn.

Gel Resolutions are incredible shoes their stability is superb and their traction is perfect a balance of quick stops and aggressive sliding on a hard court.

Thanks for sharing. Now I want those shoes. I know they are running shoes and wonder what is the model...

They look like the new Asics Gel Nimbus 20 running shoe. It's a milestone shoe (20th anniversary... iteration).

Let me say that, for me, the Nimbus is the most comfortable running shoe I've ever worn. I've stocked up on a couple pairs of the Nimbus 19, and am about to get a few more from Running Warehouse. They are down to $84, but if you go through their Facebook link, you can get an additional 15% off, which brings them down to just over $71. Not bad for a shoe that lists for over $150...

Not a fan of Asics shoes because all their shoes seem to have a loose heel fit. I have skinny ankles and they must design their shoes for people with cankles, j/k :).

Niche? I was once a competitive high school runner and have never thought of Asics as a small player in running. They are one of the top 3 companies in running (most popular type of athletic shoe) and far more respected by hard core runners than Nike and Adidas.

Here’s what I know. Five years ago 50 percent on my club was wearing Nike shoes in today 50 percent on my club is wearing ASICS shoes.

Smart move for both Asics and Nole.

Five years ago at my club everyone was wearing Adidas Barricades. Now everyone is wearing Nike. Same is true with my kids. They refuse to wear Adidas. The barricade has gotten too narrow as well. I will say that the Barricades and the Asics last longer. Although my son had a problem with the corners of the Asics shoe at the top of the laces poking him in the ankles until the shoe was broken in.

That's a design error in my mind. Had to remove that metal ring with some pliers on my speeds.

asics or Onitsuka Tiger is the original nike running shoe. nike was nothing than branding on an Onitsuka existing shoe.
