Does anyone use those tennis elbow braces?

They are called counter-force brace.
A guy I was playing with said if he forgets to put it on, he will notice pain.
Do they actually work?

Look up "counter force brace"
The logic is that the pressure creates a new "node" in the forearm muscle, thereby isolating the downstream tendon.

The guy I was hitting with said when he forgets to wear it, he notices TE immediately, and then remembers to put it on.
So, that eliminates placebo effect. I think most contraptions are snake oil, but for $20, I'll give it a shot. Maybe there is some basis to the logic.

Was actually just wondering if these worked, so how do they work exactly? and is the purpose to alleviate pain while playing? or do they help the long-term effect?

No long term effect. For that you must rest, stretch and strengthen. When you return to play it provides some extra stability.

I used one some 25 years ago for Golfer's Elbow. The problem is that they cut off circulation so I stopped using them.

Many years later I find that the Flexbar has been a much better solution.

thanks i'll look that up, my concern is that it makes it feel a little better when playing but doesn't do anything long term, in some ways would rather know that I'm having some pain as opposed to masking it.

It's a brace to protect the tendon insertion. It won't promote healing but reduce force and further injury on the elbow.

I used them frequently as I was recovering from TE and combined with a softer set up, it was enough to allow healing to occur through deep tissue massage and eccentric exercises.

Nothing can promote healing. The band is supposed to reduce further damage by isolating the tendon

Poor reading comprehension.
We are discussing wearable contraptions while you play tennis.

Well of course nothing while you are playing tennis is going to promote healing. Promoting healing will always come after you damage your body playing tennis. What braces, soft rackets and strings and proper technique do is prevent further injury so your healing strategies have a chance to work.

massage guns, gua sha, graston are contraptions for deep friction/ massage

therabar is a contraption for eccentric exercises

all of those are contraptions that promote tennis elbow healing

I tried wearing contraptions while playing tennis but they didn't help at all with my elbow.
So I took off both the therabar and massage gun for the rest of the match.

Wore it the last few times I played.
Delicate balance between too tight and too loose.

Arm has not acted up, so next time I will not wear it and see if arm acts up.

The elbow brace work by reducing the stretch to the damaged tendon/ligament. while allow you to do "necessary" task like picking up items, writing, typing, driving. So if playing tennis is necessary, by all mean wear it. It should be a temporary aid while you recover, and strengthen the arm and not a substitute for wrong choice of racket/string or technique. Also, i get itchy and muscle sore while wearing so i don't use it anymore.

Yeah spot on. Two year recovery from TE including surgery and deep regular massage to my extensor muscles is what keeps my TE away. Because once you get TE (and GE) you will always be susceptible to it.

I've been using the brace the last few times I've played. I keep it at a medium tension where its snug but not uncomfortable
Hard to say if it does anything, but my TE is at bay, either through more healing the last 2 months, or because of the brace.
