Donald Young volley against Davydenko?

Apparently Donald Young hit some sick volley when he played Davydenko. I checked you.tube and it's not on there yet. Does anyone know what shot I'm talking about?

Yeah, and it was sweet! Even Davydenko looked really surprised. Young showed some impressive hands in that match.

yeah, one of the best volleys I have seen, I am not sure he even meant to hit it, and if he did who knos why he would attempt it, I thought a shot that sick was impossible

Can anyone describe it???

I belive Young hit a forehand crosscourt to Davy. Davy replied with a really impressive crosscourt reply to Young's. Then, DY came blazing in and caught a half-volley just off his shoe laces while running nearly full speed. The ball just cleared the net and stopped on a dime. Truly an amazing shot.

I was at the match....everyone was pretty surprised that Young came to net, but he has come great hands up there. He should be following that huge serve of his in more to finish off some points at net.

DY has a huge serve? What was his fastest serve clocked at?

130mph? are you sure? Sounds like Sam Querrey's serves.....

Donald hit a blazing groundstroke, saw Davydenko was going to be stretched a bit and came in; Davy hits a big dipping reply to the duece court of Donald and Donald hits this almost half-volley inside-out backhand drop volley. (Donald is a lefty)

The ball had so much side spin (and backspin) it bounced once inside the service box and the next bounce was outside the doubles alley.

It was really a tough shot to pull off, and it looked like that was exactly what he wanted to do. He tried to hit this exact shot later in the match, this time off his forehand side, but missed wide.

there is no link. there are only two vids on youtube with DY in them...kinda odd.

Hahaha, yeah and I have one of them. It's kinda weird. I had some guy reference my video of Donald Young in his article. I think it was from the NY Times.

yeah....i just saw the clip...davy might as well packed his bags and left right there...truly an awesome shot! almost federer-like....maybe....give it a few years... ;)

unbelievable! that flattening forehand down the line and those hands at the net...even left him smiling after the point....i hope he gets better because if he plays more points like those we're in for a treat :)

Yeah, after seeing Young hit that volley, I finally understood why John McEnroe himself called Young "the next John McEnroe" when Young was like 12 years old. Up until then, I never understood why Johnny Mac made that claim.

Can we agree that even if Donald Young was over-hyped, it would actually be awesome to see him succeed. By all accounts, he's got a really crafty game, the kind you don't normally see. He really needs to stalk the baseline more and take his shorts earlier.

I've tried taking my shorts earlier, sometimes before my shirt AND socks, but to be honest it hasn't helped ;)

Seriously, I agree with you, it does look like he can bring something to the game. I also agree (on the basis of that one clip) that he looked a little too passive at the back of the court. That said, Andy Murray can look quite ordinary a lot of the time, and yet (when fit) seems to just deconstruct a lot of players.

I like Young's game because he's the rare breed these days of modern baseline bashing that is not afraid to come to the net to end the point. He does need to learn to hit the first volley behind his opponent once in a while to mix it up instead of always hitting it into the open court. Davydenko figured this out as the match went on and started running to the open court even before Young hit the volley and passed him quite a few times. But you gotta love his all-court game.

Yes, but if he starts winning matches in a good fashion the hype could come back. Just hope he's ready for the hype this time.

Absolutely agree with you there BP...:)

I really want to see Donald Young's game evolve because he's crafty and is finally getting some real experience.
