Kei Nishikori Is The Current Youngest Champion on the ATP Tour, Not Donald Young

Sorry to get you all hyped up--he hit the same shot against Blake in the finals of Delray. I have watched that match a few times already. I know if you got to the ATP website, there is a link to watch streaming video of it. But, I'm not paying $9.95 to watch it...

i would pay $9.95 to watch the roddick/nishikori match, but i'll be playing tennis tonight...like 5 hours :D my favorite night to play tennis and it only costs me $1!!!

Young and Isner just beat Fish and Melzer in doubles in San Jose.

Based on logic found on the TW message board about Donald Young his doubles win in SJ could then lead to one of the following conclusions:
  • Fish and Melzer are the worst doubles team ever. They lost to a team with DY on it.
  • Isner is the best doubles player in the world. He was able to carry DY.
  • Fish and Melzer must have been hurt, how could they lose against DY.
  • DY must have "TREED OUT"
  • DY is clearly a much better doubles player based on this one result.

Young is quite a good net player, where it actually matters in doubles. Isner's not too bad himself, and his serve and height really makes it hard to get around him at the net. Young's mobility can make up for Isner's lack of it, so they do make up a decent doubles team.

However, his ground game leaves something to be proved. He has not shown that he can really control the center of the court like some players. Isner although isn't the best baseliner, he doesn't revolve his game around that. He goes for the big serve, and if it does somehow come back, he takes a huge cut. Same on his returns.

I saw this kid Kei a few years ago, I was watching him practice with the other top Japanese Juniors, he got a super forehand, unfortunately he lost that time, I think a kid from Croatia won the tournament named Cilic against a kid from France.
Anyways, good luck to Kei, and the Morita fund is a very big help for his great improvement. if I'm not mistaken Morita is a part owner of the famous SONY

I know I was just kidding around. Although one should note Donald did have the lowest doubles rating on the court of the 4 players. I saw him win a doubles challenger last year and he is impressive at net and with his reflexes.

On another note, Roddick routines "sensation boy" Kei last night 6-2, 6-4. Using logic already provided here one could conclude the following:

  • Kei was tired that's why he lost.
  • He lost to Roddick and Roddick sucks so bad this has to mean Kei will never accomplish anything in the tennis world.
  • It's shows how weak his competition was in Delray.

I like how when Kei wins one ATP title, ppl go "He's gonna be so awesome blah blah blah". Then he loses one, everyone's going "oh he sucks".

You can't judge a player based on several friggin matches. Wait until the end of this year before even predicting how what his career might be like. Maybe even got to wait until he's 21 or 22 to make a call.

Players develop at different rates. Donald Young needs to mature, but the kid has serious game. If and when he gets his head together, he is going to be a serious presence on the tour. No question about it. If you knew anything about tennis, other than being able to quote short-term results, you would see this. I don't care about American tennis, but of all the young Americans out there at the moment, Young is the most talented I have seen. He should come through.

EXACTLY. I'm so sick of people hating on Donald Young. He's only 18, and has WAY more talent than Isner, Querrey, and all these other Americans. It took Federer a while on the ATP stage to start seeing success. Give Donald some time and I guarantee you he will be a Grand Slam champion at some point in the future.

This just in fron a spokesperson of John Cauthen: the Wilson Pro Room hadn't gotten him his 'Kei' Factors yet. He was dealing with inferior equipment, and Roddick's Babolat's are juiced with Cortex.

Darn I forgot about his rotton equipment. Kei Factors, I like it. Good catch!

On another note, and no I am not a fan, don't be suprised if DY wins one on the Tour level this year himself. You heard it here first.

Andres

Hate to break it to you, but his game is NOTHING like Andre's game, and that includes both the "style-is-everything"/hair extension young Andre and the mature, ultra-fit bald version of Andre.

He really doesn't deserve much pub (though he's being hyped on this board now, like so many others)...not yet, at least.
No, no... he said Andres' game. He's talking about me :)
But you're wrong, Kei plays nothing like me :D

"He is the new Young sensation with game like Andres's game, he deserves all the pub"

Donald will be a Grand Slam singles champion when hell freezes over and when he is able to play better mentally. He may be able in his strokes and serves but he really lacks in the mental department. He also needs to lose his parents as being coaches.

eeerr no he isn't.
Lleytton Hewitt won Adelaide when he was 16.

No, Kei is 18 years old and Lleyton is 26 years old. Kei is currently the youngest person to have won an ATP tournament this year. Something that Donald Young can ever achieve.

Kei reminds me of mixture of andre agassi and Marcelo Rios as far as talent.

Kei is also the youngest player in the ATP Tour Race Points at No. 26. Donald Young is not even on the ATP Tour Race. Kei is now the youngest new sensation on the ATP Tour.

Again, what is your obsession with Donald Young? You have said over and over again how "lousy" the kid is, why do you keep dwelling on his failures?

Yes and yet Nishi is still miles behind Donald in the rankings!! lol, Nishi can keep his "youngest champion on the Atp tour" tag and Donald will still be the youngest player in the top 100 thank you very much.

It's clear to me certain people have much deeper problems with Donald than just his tennis, and it's disturbing.

Kei said after the match that Roddick wasn't as good as he thought before the match....LOL

Pretty silly thing to say that about somebody who just beat you in straight sets. I am really surprised he would say something like that. He should be a little more humble considering he has really only one win over a top 50 player.

He is right, what he means is next time i play you, i think i got a pretty good chance to beat you... Martina said the same thing about Chris evert after she played her for the 1st time. Martina said it was a straight set loss but actually it gave her more confidence to beat her the next time.

Miles ahead? nishikori is 31 spots behind and miles ahead of Young in the Race Rankings. Youngs not going to be higher ranked for much long either unless he starts winning some ATP level matches. You really think being 100 in the world from challenges matches is better than having a winning record on the ATP for the year?

it's surprising that nishikori wasn't part of the japan davis cup team that gave the philippines their pink slips in the first round of their group 1 asian zone match. he would have shown former NCAA champion cecil mamiit out the door and give a tennis lesson during their tie in manila a few weeks back.

He's actually 97th not 100th!! :D , and to be honest at this stage of both players development these little stats dont matter much, but if someone wants to claim that "Nishi is better" just because he won on the Atp tour i just felt it was only right to point out that the rankings don't agree with that notion, and from what i saw of Nishi against Rodick i'm not surprised he's behind Young!!. Young is the youngest player in the top 100 also, that's not to be laughed at imo.

Kei can't get out of qualifying at Memphis and then DY beats Sam Warburg.

Kei performs as expected. Does Warburg's loss make him the worse player in the world?

Kei retired in the final qualifying round at Memphis. He was sick.

There are far worse players in the world than Sam Warburg. For example, I'd bet a million dollars that he would beat you. So want to put up some money? ;)

It's customary for a person to have a million dollars first before they make a bet for a million dollars? ;)

Unless, of course, you're so sure that you'd win the bet that there's no risk for you to ever be liable for the million dollars. ;)

As of this week Donald Young is no longer in the top 100 on tour.

He now officially sucks.

Not to worry, becuase of the at least 25 pts he's getting for his 2nd rd showing at Memphis, he'll be up to around 94 next week. If he gets to the qtrs, that'll be 60 more pts, putting him at around 87.

Keep hating.

OK, I'll take your bet under one condition. I bet you a million you could never set the match up in the first place. ;) You could stand to win a easy 2 million................

That would be the easiest 2 million dollars I've ever made. Sam is from around here. He went to Stanford and I used to go watch him play. I've talked to him a few times at tournaments. I'm sure I could track him down and see if he's interested in a match with you if I offered him half of the 2 million dollar kitty (especially after I tell him that you said he's "the worst player in the world"). ;) LOL

So you'd better pull out that checkbook of yours. :)

And, no, I'm not in the mob.

I watched Sam Warburg beat Sampras in WTT last year. So that means that DY indirectly has a win over Sampras and is therefore the GOAT.

So are you now saying you can beat DY also? ;)

If you've followed my humor (I know, it's weak) you'll know that DY is the worst ever if you use the logic according to the DY haters. Therefor a loss to DY is the worst thing that could happen to another pro player. Sorry Sam, I hope you recover soon. ;)

I on the otherhand I believe DY'll be in the top 60 or 50 by the end of this year. We'll see.

Donald Young just advances to the quarters in Memphis. Looks like he's clearly better than Kei this week. You know, he could be the next McEnroe.
