Fed and Sampras as doubles partners?

Ok Im falling on the bandwagon of stupid Sampras Fed threads but the thought crossed my mind today and made me wonder.

Pete best serve of all time and awesome volley game.
Fed best all court game today and current #1 on tour.

If these two paired up for doubles I think they could completley obliterate every current doubles team on tour and actually give the Bryan brothers some decent consistent competition.

Everyones talking about Pete making a comeback possibly for Wimby. I think the best and most realistic chance for Pete to make a good comeback into tennis is through doubles and who better to do it with than Roger! We know the two already like each other and enjoy playing against each other, so why not play with each other? Petes fitness wouldnt be an issue because the doubles games are so much shorter and he wouldnt have to cover so much court. I mean think about Petes awesom serve and trying to return that in doubles. The returns would be easy ducks for Roger to put away. It would be usless to try and pass Pete at the net because Roger covers so much court and has awesome groundstrokes. Pete could play duece side and have that running forehand winner if someone goes wide on him and Roger plays ad so if someone hits to Pete's backhand Roger can just step in with his forehand!

After your done flaming me for creating another Pete Fed thread please give your two cents on the idea.

and what would federer gain out of this? if anything his singles game would take a hit. Federer has enough on his plate as is considering that major tournament victories are no longer guaranteed with this new batch of young guns.

He would:

A. get to play more with Pete. They both enjoy playing together

B. possibly have a chance at more GS titles

C. fed doesnt play a hard schedule as is so fitness wise it wouldnt do much damage and as a tennis player myself playing doubles sometimes is a welcome change from singles -- less intense, demanding, and more fun.

a. not when his livelihood , aka prize money, is on the line

b. singles is more prestigious and that's his main goal anyhow

c. please see a.

Mabe when Roger is 35 and Pete is 45 they can team up and win a doubles slam.

That would be cool. Pete could ruin Feds chance of catching his GS total by scoring an 130mph hole in one :)

actually I think doubles improves your singles game.

I was watching Navratilova on tennis channel. And she said that she didnt get enough tennis with just playing singles.

John Mcenroe played doubles as practice for his singles matches.

Love the idea. They should do it for one tournament. For instance, the Pacific Life Open...because Ill be there!

Wouldn't work, federer sucks in doubles.

Where's the proof of this satement?

We pretty much all know that it won't happen, but it would be nice to have a doubles team to talk about other than the Bryan brothers! They're both so stoic on the court, do you think they'd even talk to each other between points

How about this combo: Agassi-Sampras! Now that would be a pair that could beat three of a kind!

Cheers,

Tim

There's more to a good doubles team than just combining 2 great singles players together. Chemistry is extremely important.

I'm sure their chemistry would be just fine. Those guys would go into matches with big smiles and huge ego's, just like if Karlovic and Isner teamed up (except Sampras and Fed can actually volley).

this would be nice theoretically, but people already explained why it won't actually happen

I missed that? In fact I think it would and should happen. at least for one tournament.

I remeber when Mcenroe and Sampras teamed up for doubles. That was awesome.

If Sampras and Fed teamed up do you know how much money they would make??? The excitemnt and the buzz would be incredible. It would make tennis and particularly doubles more exciting.

Another cool thing would be Nadal and Federer playing doubles!!
