Fed beat Djoker...

to the finish line.

He wasn't able to cross it, but that's another matter.
He simply beat Djoker in the race to the finish line.

He didn't win the race itself.

I'm trying to be as philosophical as possible. :)
The winner is the one who crosses the finish line, not one who is near to it.

Making it to the finish line is one thing, but crossing it, is the only thing that matters.

Djokovic fooled Federer by magically pushing the finish line a little further, and ended up narrowly winning the race.

It's still puzzling how he didn't seal the deal. He played so well imo.

That is not the finish line . Fed was the one who got the closest first and so well ahead of Djoker

One can say Fed had the first point of the match serving an ace . So he was ahead first .
Semantics... 4-2 in final set while you are preparing to serve is pretty much close to finish line.

Hey, it's painful. We all have different coping mechanisms.

I suppose reaching the finish line is the second best thing after actually crossing the finish line...so, there's that.

Djokovic should have done what would have been less painful and shut the door at 4-2, and then served it out two games later, instead of letting Federer get close to the finish line just to end up not actually crossing it. He had chances in the 1st two return games, mugged it up in the 1st on second serve returns, and finally got the break at 3-2. He then mugged it up again in his service game, allowing Federer back in the match.

 He lost. Accept it. He had zero nerve in that final game, it was like watching someone ranked outside the top 100 for those 4 points.

Why make this thread really?

Fed was pretty pissed off about getting that plate. He sounded like a spoiled child, whining about how he wants "that gold thing" while stuttering and repeating "I dunno". I wouldn't have wanted to be in Mirka's or his kids' shoes after the cameras stopped rolling.
Except that never happened, troll. Next time use your regular account to post garbage and save me from have to put a new one on ignore.

Watch the trophy ceremony. If anything, I understated his words. Fed explicitly said that he doesn’t want any plates; he wants “that gold thing,” referring to the trophy. He was visibly shaken and kept repeating a nonsensical answer to every question. It’s obviously not easy to give thoughtful responses in that situation, but he sounded like someone having stage fright. The full match replay, including the ceremony, is still on the ESPN app if you don’t believe me. And I’m not trying to troll here. Nothing I said is false or even a dig at Federer. Everyone has their faults.

I can't believe that pass won Djokovic 2 Wimbys in a row he really should have lost. Fedal both so casual and comfortable thinking it's in the bag. Fed trying to show off "phew, that was hard af but I got 2 CP's now.... im gonna re-do the 2012 MP just for kicks and to make a comparison gif for my fans":whistle::whistle:

You don't have to come up with positive things. Your man played great, it's to be admired, especially at age 38. Let it rest. Fed himself can only take positives from this tournament.

Couldn't agree more.

And I really have to chuckle at some of the trolling about Federer's acceptance speech. He couldn't have been more gracious under the circumstances.

And in the press conference after it seemed like he felt the frustration, but had already compartmentalised it. Notice his light hearted aside to journalists right at the end of the English language part of his press conference after the final.

Paul Annacone talked about how Federer just doesn't get "caught up" by disappointing losses. Its one of things that makes him slightly unique in terms of how quickly he can recover.

I have some pills to sell you which you will be probably interested in.

Federer didn't choke. Fans take the choke excuse to make it as if outcome is only about their fave's actions. It's not. Novak played below par but still managed to be better player in most important moments. Tennis is not basketball, we all know how the scoring system works. Accept it and you'll get over this loss.
