Djokovic wasn't waiting for Federer to decline to start his own reign. Back in 2008 Djokovic had already won 1. From 2008 till 2010 the H2H was just 2-2. Djokovic had his own issues which is why he lost to nobodies. Once he figured them out then from 2011 to 2012 Djokovic went 3-2 vs fed.

Before 2008 and after 2012 H2H is due to age. Maybe we can count till 2016 but definitely not post 2016 2 wins which was when fed was very old.

Djokovic is just better at tennis. Fed is still an unbelievable player though.

Between 2008 and 2012 Djokovic went 6-5 vs Federer. This is when Federer was just 27 to 30/31.

There is no age excuse. Djokovic is his equal and a bit superior.

The wins for Djokovic came on hc and clay while for Federer came at hc clay and grass.

Well I take Fed's peak level as the highest I've seen at least across the board on aggregate (though agree it's close enough), and I think the work ethic and fitness thing is basically just an assumption. People seem to think stretching turns you into a human stress ball.

Very close to even, however, I do think Federer was mostly in great physical shape into his late thirties, but after playing so much tennis especially against Rafa, Novak and Murray, his body gave out.

That's a fair assessment. Fed has the clear advantage on fast hard courts and grass while Djoker has the clear advantage on slow-to-medium hard courts and clay. Djoker has a longer peak than Fed, which allowed him to shatter his records.
