Federer vs. Tursonov

he usually lately plays with the collar up to help with the sun on his neck, but since this is a night match, the collar should be down

he does look like courier...hits the ball as hard or harder than courier too. predictions? mine is Fed in two, but a tough two...maybe a tiebreak.

I have seen Tursunov play before, but now he basically can put Safin to shame with his forehands. He just rips some of them!

i wouldn't say he can put safin to shame with his forehand. we all know that when safin is on he can blast anyone off the court from both sides. seeing safin last week in wash. beat blake, i can affirm that he hits the living daylights out of his groundstrokes. always has always will. let's not say tursunov can put safin to shame until he wins 3 grand slams.

sorry tiamat if my reply came off angry. i am a hardcore safin fan, so that's why, but i apologize if it came off that way.

Yeah, you're right, Safin hits the tar out of the ball. He's just so inconsistent that he is frustrating and entertaining to watch all at the same time.

big server the score is 3-0 federer he is serving, so up 2 breaks...not lookin good for tursunov

Hey thanks a lot. I like safin too by the way. Lots of talent, just needs more between the ears. Thanks again for the score update...looks like bye bye dimitry.

Fed up 4-0 in the 3rd. He obviously had enough of this match and wants to go watch TV now.

To bagel or not to bagel. That is the question.

Hahahaha...it's funny how he can just turn it on and say, ehhh, I'm ready to eat something...i'll just win now...

Fresh bagel is what you get for taking a set from Fed. Let this be a lesson for all of you out there!

Damn, i wish he didnt have to play that extra set, he needs to be ready for Malisse.0 for 4 on breakpoints cost him that second set.

All credit to Tursonov though. That guy can bring some serious heat on his forehand. My goodness can that guy rip that ball. I want to see another Tursonov vs. Safin match. I love seeing those guys play. Such incredible ball striking. I have a new favourite player. I see Tursonov doing some damage at the US Open this year, provided he doesn't run into some guy named Federer.

Tursunov needs to put the first serve in. 54% and 50% in the 1st and 3rd sets. The 2nd set he puts 74 percent in and wins. You can't win anything with 50%.

Did anyone else hear Fed let out that swear? He just smiled after he let it slip. The commentators seemed to get quite a chuckle out of it.

Thats the first time I've heard Fed "let one fly".

Yup,

Got a code violation... and everything.. and then he was laughing his assss off about it. Knowing Fed.. he just wanted to try it to see what would happen. Guy is best there ever was. By the end of the year (or early next year) he will have the record for most weeks at #1 in a row. Nadal/Fed is the best thing that has happened to tennis in the last 10 years or so. If Rafa did not come along.. how many GS titles would Fed have in a row???

This is why I get so annoyed about certain posts. I've been watching Fed since Junior Wimbledon, and am fortunate to have been brought up in the lively days of Connors/Mac/ Borg/Nastase.

They were (the first 2 especially) wonderful to watch. They, like Billie Jean and Martina, issued a whole new era into all tennis.

IMHO Fed is the nearest to THE greatest ever. I never thought Sampras could be overtaken so quickly.

So, how great that he can laugh and have a joke.

Equally, at this moment, how many rivals has he got except Rafa?

Rivalry is essential. I can see a few youngsters who'll challenge him, Berdych, maybe Dokovich(Sp?) Gasquet...haven't got the measure of Monfils yet. (Oh, and yes, it wouldn't be a "whealben" post if I didn't include Andy-though not for a year or two. ;) )

So, for the sake of tennis, please let an American get into a pole position to win games. ( Sadly, except for football, if it aint popular in America, then it's not a sport worth supporting. :( )

And please dont knock this Island nation. We're tiny and tennis until recently has been an elite sport. ( *mad*) There was zero funding, zero suppport from the old farts that ran British tennis.

This is why they're breaking their bones to pay Brad a colossal sum of money. Gawd knows Andy slummed it during his fledging years.

Amazing that at 15 he got himself away from the LTA to Barcelona. His older brother, Jamie, who showed all the signs of being as talented, went with the LTA, and is only just recovering from the horrific experience.

I say it time and time again, you Americans love winners. Oh that we did too. Instead we try and knock them down to size almost immediately.

How sad. Be grateful for the terrific coaches/stadia/ scholarship grants etc etc.you have.

They dont happen here.

Let us go overboard about our Andy. Hell, he aint bad for a Scot.

I hope Tursonov has a coach other than roly poly Anatoly who was on his bench, a Russian friend of his and Safin's. Anatoly is some sort of physio, he used to sit in Safin's box, & just sort of hangs around the Russian players.

Am I that obtuse? Do we speak the same language? I was commenting on Newberry's fascination that Fed could swear and let rip, together with some eejits who think Murray is a no mark who "just manages to keep the ball in court".

Which suggests to me, in 40 years of watching tennis that if an American isn't in the top 5, all you do is whinge and put down certain players.

Clear enough for you?

I'm babbling (your description, not mine)/banging on about the fact that the US is in a slump as Aggi and Sampras have/are retiring.

Roddick needs to go back to the drawing board, Blake has the potential but not consistent yet (although I adore watching him play) but you sadly lack a stand out star. Mardy Fish, Gambill, etc are just not up to it.

Yet I get pulverised and knocked for saying we have a potential top 10/top 5 player in Andy Murray.

Time will tell. He's not there yet.

So, we have one good, potentially great player. But you lot seem to think he's crap. Why?

We Brits have our pride too, you know.

Anyway. I'll love you and leave you. Andy's just coming out on court. I have a running commentary to supply for another web site.

;) If he loses badly I wont be back for a while.

Oh, and lighten up. Is it impossible to have a bit of banter and fun on a forum which allegedly is populated by tennis lovers?

Personally that makes a forum for me, but some of you seem real uptight. CHILL. A light hearted remark never hurt anyone.

Tara. *waves goodbye*

;) This guy is a mature (oldish) female. Sorry to disappoint. I have explained what I was commenting on in my last post

Sheesh, you are all so uptight. Do you have a sense of humour/understand irony?

:( Back to our more user friendly Brit boards.
