I thought that the Federer backhand wasnt doing so well yesterday. It didnt make winner and made unforced errors. Even more then his forehand but that expected when he was trying to make the most winners with it. But his backhand couldnt produce the winner or the pace i seen in the past years before. He resorted alot of the times short slices cross court which dissapointed me. Can any one tell me what on earth was up with his backhand i mean that one passing shot from the backhand was all the winner i can remember him by from that side. I remember 10000's of inside out forehand flats.

Did you ever stop to think that against lesser opponents a lot of those backhands could have been outright winners or forced errors?

I have Fed-Roddick US Open 2007 match. I HAD to watch that after the finals yesterday, to re-live the glory days ;)

Fed's backhand has not been the same since 2007 Masters in Shanghai. After the 1st match loss to Gonzo there, no one could even get close to his game.

His game's just not been the same this year SO FAR......

Yes i did but comparing His performance from 2006 to 2008 his game declined. He had more UNFORCED errors on the backhand and even less winners. Where on the forehand it was burdened with having to cover his weak backhand. i thought i was watching roddick....

Roddick and Nadal have two completely different ground strokes so you can't look at tape and try to conclude that his backhand is in decline after watching that match.

Also, it is pretty common knowledge that Nadal blisters Federer's backhand because it is so tough for him to handle. Especially after a few sets when he starts to wear down. Notice how Roger kept moving around it to hit his forehand?

Nothing wrong with Roger's backhand, it is as solid as ever. The problem is the guy on the other side of the net with the incredible forehand.
