Federer's Nadal complex

Im not sure he has a complex, I think he goes out there expecting to win, Nadal is just the better player in the end, I do not see him as "scared" though so to speak

If not for his mental blocks, Fed would have beaten Nadal twice this year. Blowing 5-1 and 4-0 leads is not exactly common for the Feds.

Thats a brainless comment because you could just as easily say, "If Nadal wasn't so mentally strong Federer would have beaten Nadal this year,"

thats the problem with many peoples analysis they completely forget that there is somebody on the other side of the net, its a two way street and in this case Nadal is the better player and damn good to reel off that many strait games and still win those sets, fact is that Nadal being the better clay court player is Nadal plays his best Federer will not win, which is what happened, ts Nadal's to win or lose not Federers

Even though I'm a big Fed fan I agree with your points here.At the end of the day Nadal is just a better claycourter(Fed beats Nadal on grass and hardcourts which wouldn't be possble if he had a huge mental block) but I still believe Fed can beat Nadal if he's inspired for that one day and plays out of this world tennis or if Nadal is somewhat off that day(maybe both will need to happen for Fed to win). But I agree, people forget that Nadal is across the net,it isn't all in Federer hands(especially on clay) no matter how great of a player he is.

Last year in the French Open final Federer didn't convert even one of 13 plus breakpoints in the first set. You don't get multiple breakpoints in more than one return game if you're not doing something right. However Nadal has destroyed all his opponents so far this year. Hopefully the match with Djokovic tomorrow will be nearly or totally MAD.

Great points zagor, Federer can certainly win those who say he can't are out of their minds, given the right conditions and Nadal having a bad day sure Federer could step up and win, but still it depends on Nadal not playing his best tennis

tough to beat someone who plays so well.. Nadal might have something similar not mentally but his game doesn't work well on grass and hard courts but he is improving so does Roger. Only thing against Roger is time on clay which is important because on grass and hard court you can still win after 30

Nadal's game works pretty well on grass

Nice Federer interview with Wilander where Federer candidly talks about
having a Nadal complex earlier but that that is no longer
true now. Very classy!

I can only hope for another great Fed-Nadal final this weekend.

Funny how Federer said the complex a few times, almost to see if Wilander would respond as Wilander was the one who dissed Fed about this. Fed got Wilander to say he was sorry in a round about way. It was pure genius by Fed to say that, and its good Wilander had the "balls" to say sorry.

Yeah,I'd say getting to two Wimbledon finals in a row and pushing a player of Federer's caliber to 5 sets in one of them is a pretty good result(to put it lightly).Nadal is underrated as a grasscourter in this forum IMO,especially his net skils are underrated.I don't get it how he doesn't get more praise for improving that part of his game,he has pretty good hands at the net from what I've seen.

Wilander is actually quite a big Fed fan from what I've seen,he stated several times that Federer is his favourite player and that he hopes he can win the FO.

perhaps that why he made the comment, out of frustration that he did not win although wilander thought he could have/ wanted him too

Yes,that is my opinion as well.IMO Wilander said that in the heat of the moment because he was so frustrated Federer lost.

Thank you for the acknowledgement.

Roger still wants to improve his backhand against Nadal's forehand rather than find a way to avoid that match dynamics. It sounds like that to me. It's that stubborn attitude that made him such a complete player. But he seems to be also working on better tactics to change match dynamics. I think he can beat Nadal with combination of both improved backhand and some tactical changes.

Anyway, this will be a match of huge historical proportion. Nadal's chasing Borg record while Federer's chasing career slam and big jump toward the status of GOAT in professional era...

Yes, if it happens, that's one for the ages.
