Feli López: Peak Fed and Peak Rafa not as good as Novak

Always the same old story when it comes to tennis and how it used to be promoted. Current best always the best ever blah blah but sometimes ı also think Djokovic needs to be promoted like this by tennis world even more than some other past greats since he isnt all that appreciated among the fans.

Ah, more CURRENT guys coming out - not commentators, not legends - claiming Djokovic's level is higher than Federer/Nadal, and yet again TTW continues to dismiss these guys.

Never change, TTW. :)
Quoting for truth. If they arent getting payed then they are promoting sport etc etc. Luckily we have enough sherlocks around here to deduce the real meaning behind any statement made by anyone actually relevant when it comes to tennis.

Has Lopez ever managed to beat Federer?

Yeah, I thought this was pretty weird, too. Lopez has never beaten Federer. Federer leads their H2H... 12 to zero. Lopez couldn't even beat an injured version of Federer. Not sure where he gets his logic. Unless he's talking more about how Djokovic crushes the entire field.

Although, it isn't like Federer wasn't doing the same thing from 2004 to 2007.

I remember them saying this same thing in 2013. Oh wait! They didn't.

Federer in perhaps his last prime season defeated Djokovic at his peak at Roland Garros. That was perhaps the last time Fed had the physical endurance to take on Djoker in a best of 5 match.

You know, when Nadal or Federer finger wagged in a match, Novak was seen shaking his head and bowing in defeat.

Novak, I admit, is one of the best players ever. I admitted this in 2013 and 2012 too. But, his highest level in tennis isn't as legendary as that of Federer or Nadal. They crushed the spirits of even their most powerful rivals in the big matches.

I agree with Lopez, however, if he meant dominance against the tour. Novak wins a lot of tournaments he enters, especially after the decline of his three big rivals.

As i also mentioned in the other thread; if it is true that Novak plays the best game ever 2015/2016, does it make the players that dominated earlier less great? If a new player dominates in 2026 who people generally think plays the best game ever, does it make 2015/2016-Novak less great? People cant even agree when peak-Novak, peak-Rafa and peak-Federer is. When it comes to Federer it goes all the way from 05/06 until 2015. When a player wins less than last year you will always have the discussion if he is playing weaker or if the field is getting stronger, im sure that will happen to Novak too. No matter what happens in the future, people shouldnt disrespect what Novak has done 2011-2016. If people only had said the same in 2008 about the years 2004-2007, or when it comes to Sampras, Agassi, etc, but that is probably too much to ask:oops:

While it is only 1 opinion of many, it is still interesting regarding Nadal, since isn't Nadal a close personal friend of Lopez's. So that is a real endorsement in a comparision with Nadal IMO that he specifically would say this. Federer not really since I don't believe he is anything more than a friendly acquantice and fellow tour member to Lopez.

Has Lopez ever beaten Djokovic in anything other than that match this year where Djokovic didn't finish with googly eyes (and while technically it goes down as a win I wouldn't think it shows anything). I remember at the U.S Open when they played and the commentators talking about what a horrible match up it is for Lopez, and how he had been killed easily in all their meetings, and they were floored he took a set (when Lopez took a set off Fed at the 07 U.S Open they were much less surprised). So I wouldn't that he has never beaten Federer, doesn't mean he couldn't still find Djokovic even more impressive. It is not like he does any better against him.

A lot of people's attention spans are extremely short nowadays. This shows the cultural decline in today's capitalist society.

Didn't Ultron crush Nadals soul and spirit and will in 2011 with 7 in a row against Peak Nahdahl?

Feli must be setting the stage for a commentator job now that he's 34. Say something controversial to get your name in the press. Mission accomplished.

He's entitled to his opinion. But like @mightyrick and others - I guess he forgot all those @SS whoopins' from Fed - only won 4 sets.
