Ferrero needs to grow up

I see reports today that he is complaining the press are giving too much attention to Nadal and ignoring the other Spanish players. I used to be a big fan of Ferrero but in recent years he seems to have changed as a person and as a player. He has done nothing of note recently to warrant any attention. He had his day in the spotlight when he won the French so i find it childish and unsporting to deny Nadal his moment. He needs to sort out his own game and win some tournaments and think less about things which are none of his business.

He isn't complaining about the attention Nadal is getting, he's complaining that other Spanish players AREN'T getting any attention, which seems like a fair comment considering the journalists actions. I didn't find anything he said to be selfish or that he was trying to deny Nadal anything.

the spanish players are probly just tired of answering questions about nadal instead of being asked questions about themselves, like when they used to ask questions about sharapova when they interviewed serena all the time

Actually, he has complained about the attention Nadal has been getting. If this were a one time thing I would think that he had a point (even if his point demonstrated a complete lack of understanding for how the press works). However, it is not the first time he's whined about the attention Rafa is getting. And I doubt that it will be his last.

I agree completely. He was asked specifically about it and he was both honest and candid.

Whether or not he has personal issues with Nadal, his comments were both correct and appropriate.

Having said that, Ferrero will have to live with it, this type of journalist is very much like many of the Nadal fans we see now, just jumping on the ol' bandwagon. The media has decided that Nadal is the one to hype, much like any number of stars before him. That's just the way it works. The next sensation will come along and off we'll go again!


Ferrero was asked to comment on the decision by Spanish journalists covering the Halle Open in Germany to leave the event after newly-crowned French Open champion Nadal was knocked out in the first round on Wednesday.

"It's not a good thing," said Ferrero, who made it through to the quarter-finals of the pre-Wimbledon grasscourt event on Thursday.

"Right now most people are talking about Nadal and forgetting the others. They still exist, and journalists should show more respect for them as well."

Ferrero, himself a French Open winner, made it through to the quarters by knocking out Nadal's conquerer, Alexander Waske of Germany.

"Nadal can lose also. He's human," Ferrero said.

I would say the same thing too.

It's okay if questions about Nadal are asked to another player, but when the whole conversation is about another player, I don't blame him for getting a little rough about it. When a reporter asks questions to talk to you I'd expect more questions about me than someone else.

Yeah, the press can get on one's nerves. This reminds me of when Tiger was coming on big on the golf scene, the only questions the press ask the other players was concerning how good Tiger is or will be. Every freakin' tournament Tiger was the focus rather than the winner!
