Who knows is right, but a lot of things need to align just perfectly for Novak for this to happen. And lets be honest, he is going to be 33 and as great of a player as he is, also with the Olympics thrown in there where he will want to play good also, I think it will be too much. All it will take is a couple of long matches to hurt it for him. I do feel the dogfight with Thiem followed by the one with Federer at RG and W finished him off for the USO last year.

Federer has been totally off for 5 years or so at USO, and Novak has clearly underperformed, too/ injured. Nadal has scheduled differently, and I have heard very little complaining about his knees since his US roll began. It seems to me Novak gets stronger every time he wins these close matches, and the field is starting to believe he cannot be beaten, despite his visible decline in level.
2020 will be an interesting year, Big3 feel like pretty old men - but the gap between them and the field is still big when it really matters.

You are being conservative. Which is understandable for favorites.
But IMO Novak has a very good chance to bag 3 slams as he did in 2011. I don't know which three he will win, and I can tell you that it might be Novak's time at French if Rafa's off or injured.

However, he will lose one of Wimbledon or UsOpen IMO. It's too much pressure to win all 4 slams.

3 is possible but a lot of luck is needed and he needs to play at a very high level consistently throughout the year. I still think Rafa wins the french but Thiem and Djoker are threats to him for sure.

Well obviously, he'd need to win the FO to achieve that. If he can do that, with Nadal seemingly still a formidable force there, I'd say there'll be a great chance he can do it this year.

Really tough ask, especially in Olympics year. If he wins next two slams somehow, might as well skip Olympics as far as I am concerned.

Djoker's best chance of triumph from the three remaining Grand Slam events in this season is Wimbledon, followed by the US Open. My expectations, that Djoker will win the French Open this year are small. Nole had big problems in this year's Australian Open final against Thiem, to my great delight, Nole won, but on Parisian clay Thiem will be an even more difficult opponent. And Nadal will again be the biggest favorite.

I don't think No1e will win CYGS this year, but he could be win Wimbledon or the US Open, or both Grand Slam events, as I wrote, Djoker has a greater chance at Wimbledon. Olympics and WTF are also possible variants.

He will always be vulnerable on clay as he was even in his best years. Thiem has beaten him twice at RG, Wawrinka beat him as well, Nadal obviously has his numbers there. So, even if the field is in worse state (overall), there are still some big obstacles on clay for him he was struggling to pass even during his prime/peak.
Not to mention that a 33 year old player is more prone to upsets than someone at the age of 27/28.

Yeah the main reason I give him very low chances is I give him very low chances to win RG. His chances at Wimbledon are great and the U.S Open decent enough despite his history there.

He may not win another slam this year. Perhaps sacrificing Wimbledon for Olympic gold. That wouldn't surprise me.

Is Federer also one of the young gen whom you hope will win Slams and tell Nadal and Djokovic "enough is enough"? Or do you make an exception for him? In a Federer/Tsitsipas final at Wimbledon or the US Open, who would you cheer for?

I wouldn’t mind at all if Tsitsipas wins

Best of luck to him if he manages to do it but I can't see him winning RG. It has tradionally been the hardest for him to win, Rafa isn't going anywhere and Thiem is a serious road-block also. If he gets through RG then he is the only one in his way.

No. It’s just too hard to do. You practically need to be perfect AND lucky. In 2015, Djokovic was the favorite for every tournament he entered and still came up one match short.

I don't care for Olympics in tennis so that's mute for me.
However, I think he is realistically should get 3 for great year or two for passable. Anything else is not acceptable.
I'd give him a chance for FO this year. Wim and US favorite.

I don't know if I am a decent human being but the chance of winning CYGS is very low. Djokovic looked tired in the final of AO after winning most of his matches easily. The transition of RG/WB will be really hard to do, especially if he goes deep in Roland Garros.

Hopefully the young gen can start winning slams and tell these guys ‘enough Is enough ‘
And these guys are actually Novak and Rafa... ;)

Famous Fed fans story... young shoul start winning...till Federer plays one of young gen members....:laughing:

And I love contradictions this fan base is bombarding us regularly, just love it...(y)

As usual, these things need to wait until one sees in what form he starts his campaigns at each Major (i.e. if he is able to sustain Major winning form). The overwhelming possibility is that he won't, but there is a small chance that he will if absolutely everything falls into place and he has an immense luck. I still think that he won't, but the lack of competition from younger generations ATGs makes it also possible, because he can focus on the same old same old patterns and go from there. There isn't a new force that he has to adjust to, so he is simply going through the motions.

To be fair, Rafa was very close to winning 3 in 2017. He was up a break in the 5th set in Australia, but then Federer switched on some magic button and played some truly magnificent tennis for the next 5 games - and continued doing so for the next 6 months or so...

Given that Djokovic just won his pet slam and that this is an Olympic year, we'll have to ask ourselves again: will he finally do it?

Here's how I think about his chances:
1. CYGS+Olympic+WTF: 1%
2. CYGS+Olympic: 5%
3. CYGS: 10%
4. 2 more slams: 25%
5. 1 more slam: 50%
6. 1 more Cincinnati: 50%

What do you think?

It's getting tougher.
Young generation may win 1+ slam(s) in 2020.
They are almost there.

Course not, the drugged up little c*nt will still win the tournament

Bitter?...

And I resent the way you're talking about RF.

Not that he'll win FO, but still no need to call him that, or any other pro you dislike intensely.

Lol if you think I was the one embarrassed about Fed nearly losing to the same journeyman twice in slam matches.
Nothing embarrassing about avenging a loss by saving 7 MP. It IS embarrassing however to lose the YE #1 because you couldn't beat Gramps at ATP finals LOL.
