Forum search alternative

As others here have mentioned as well, the 'forum search' is pretty primitive and often does not work too well, and sometimes produced errors. The search function in the forums is integral to the software, and is very hard to change. You can use Google instead, but you need to type in quite a few terms to get it to just search the forum...

I decided to make a little custom Google search engine, that allows you to just search the forums and not any other sites, and allow you to use all the powerful search options that Google offers. I've set it up here:

Tennis search site

It's very basic so far, but I just want to see if people find it useful. I've only put in the major forums so far (like this forum), but will add others if people find it useful.

If you try it, let me know if you find it useful or not. If people find it useful, I'll start adding other options/catagories as well and will tidy it up a little. Any suggestions for ways of improvement/additions would be welcome as well, as long as they are not too tricky to implement:)

I prefer the daily threads asking what's the best racquet, the best string adn the best pro tennis player. I could read page after page of those subjects...

Just kidding. I'll look at your search engine tomorrow. I don't like how the search here filters words less than a few characters. It makes searching for an "X-2", of a n5, or .... you name it. There are a lot of tennis queries out there with only two digits.

If yours works for searches like this for me I"ll use it.

Yes i think that's exactly where it will be most useful... It was never meant to replace the 'forum search', but just supplement it...

Mucho gracias, domo arigato and merci beaucoup. I've often had to resort to a Google search when the forum search didn't quite do the job. This should help a ton.

Thanks guys, glad to hear at least somebody finds it useful:)

Should I post this elsewhere in another section for more people to see, or is this really the only appropriate place?

Perhaps most people don't even read a post from somebody with a post count of "0"?:)

I suspect none of the mods have even seen it... is there no PM (private message) system on this forum so that i can ask one?

I know this is a massive bump, but I feel as though this never got the attention it deserves.

Awesome utility.

I used your customized Google search and found it quite effective. This forum's default search function really sucks, especially if you are not logged in.

Thanks for taking the effort.

im glad this thread resurfaced...ive always hated the regular search. you know something is messed up when you type in "kevlar hybrid string tension" and the latest "andy murray will win wimbledon" thread pops up
