Frame for elbow pain

I’ve recently been working on my serve technique to alleviate some shoulder issues, and now that my technique is much more solid, my accuracy and power have gone up, my shoulder pain has gone down, but now my elbow is starting to hurt (mainly inside, but some outside as well).

I don’t experience pain from rallying, just from hitting serves. My gamer is the CX 200 Tour 18x20 w/ 4G Soft and OGMS at 50/54. Feels great, causes minimal pain. I’d just like more free power. I’ve also been demoing the Pure Aero Tour with RPM blast, which I really like. Feels really stiff, but not harsh. Great power and spin. Not as accurate as my CX200T obviously.

Now here’s the kicker: Ezone 98 w/ NXT. Ouch. I actually think I experience more pain with this than even the PAT w/ RPM, which is surprising given that multis are way softer than a poly like RPM. However, the control is pretty nice and has more power than my gamer, so I like the frame minus the pain, Anyone have some other frame recommendations that would help my elbow and be in the ball park of the Ezone 98?

Head Gravity Series
Tecnifibre 305 XTC
Wilson Blade series
Wilson Clash series

These are good racquets with good flex too

Take a look at the stiffness rating on each racquets page on Tennis Warehouse as well as the Comfort score

For stiffness: Nothing over 65!!
I think there’s a nice sweetspot between 61-64 where it’s flexy but still performant. Below 61 things can feel a bit weird/mushy

Also, consider quitting poly (at least for a few months) to give your elbow a break, before trying it again

Arm friendly alternative multis:
Head Velocity
Prince Premier Control
Tecnifibre X One Biphase

RPM blast and a Pure Aero has got to be the worst thing for your elbow.
I'd be looking at the following racquets:
1. PK Q Tour 325, 325, 300 and Ki5 320 & 300
2. Wilson Clash Tour 100 and the new Blade 16/19 frame
3. Angell K 7 Lime
4. Prince Phantoms
5. Volkl V Sense 10 325
6. Yonex V Core 95 ( red) and new V Pro 310, 320HD and 330.
Furthermore I would stay away from a full bed of poly and instead go with a gut or multi filament hybrid.

This is going to sound nuts, but I played with a 2009 Pure Drive GT strung at 63 w/ Black Widow and never had any elbow problems. And unfortunately, multis are pretty much not an option for me. I break them really fast and I don't have the money to restring 2 rackets once a week. But the new Vcore Pro line looks super promising, definitely want to give them a shot.

I was wondering how you might go with something like HDX, Origin or Volkl V Square/Cyclone strung around 50 in a thicker gauge. Worth a try.

Have you had a chance to hit the Vcore 95 or the TF40 305? These are the two that I'm leaning towards. I love my CX 200 Tours, but a little more power without having to drop the string tension into the 40s would be ideal.

Some frames that I've used and have in my bag now which I find to be very arm friendly.

- Wilson Clash Tour 100
- Prince Textreme Tour 95
- Yonex Dr98
- SW 104
- Yonex VCORE 97 310
- Prince Phantom 93p (on the heavier side though)

Current using the clash tour as that gives me a bit of free power and lots of spin (a bit like Babolat Pure Drive) which still being very arm friendly.

Yes I have. I've hit with both TF 40 305, and 315 and the Yonex V Core 95. Personally I love the silky soft feel of the Yonex the most and then the TF 315. The 305 is good too but a little too light despite its high SW. The 315 has good power even with ice code in it at 50lbs and the feel is very addictive for a 22mm beam.
If you are after more power I'd go with the TF 315, but if you want precision and feel go with the V Core 95, and as a third option I was really impressed with how easy it is to play with the new blade 16/19, very comfortable.

Why don't you want to drop the tension? Could give you a little more power, and a little more comfort, in a frame you already really like. 18x20s can take pretty low tensions without sacrificing control.

Some good racquet suggestions in this thread, but make sure you don't neglect elbow rehab/strengthening work too.

New blade sounds like a solid contender based on your requirements.

Your arm is bad, take time off and recoup.

Equip wise you should go with a stiffer frame and higher tension. Sounds backwards but you want the frame and string to take the impact/brunt, not your shoulder, then elbow. Adding lead tape also helps

The elbow on both sides is only digging yourself into a deeper hole. Doesnt get better over night

CX200T is definitely not a stiff frame, quite the opposite. I'm playing with it myself at the moment (both 18x20 & 16x19 depending on the feeling) with some extra weight at 9 & 3. I've also had some problems with my shoulder and wrist in the past, but with CX200T I haven't experienced any. I have been using a hybrid setup (multi+poly, both ways) all the time. But I'm also anxious to get some more free power, though I love the control and feel of my current frame. I will probably give Technifibre TF40 305 a try.
Like someone already stated, why don't you skip poly for a while and go with a full bed of something else and see how it goes. I also have a Wilson Burn 95 with a full bed of poly (Revolve) and gave it another try a couple of weeks ago but 10 minutes was enough for my arm.

I suffered from golfers elbow and after trying lots of rackets have settled on the Head 360 Extreme MP. Lots of comfort and power without having to swing excessively hard.

Your arm is bad, take time off and recoup.

I also second this. Only try once you've healed.

I have one of the y.vcore 95s,, its a tricky racquet to nail down with tension and string
im favoring the softer strings due to arm discomfort from it,,
I would look into the vcore 100 is you still wanna try this model, a bit more forgiving

I tried about 10 different rackets with low 60s stiffness ratings strung up with a variety of multifilaments. Still had golfers elbow. The Clash Tour solved it for me. I can even play with a full bed of poly.

Have you tried the Head 360 Instinct MP? Soft powerful controlled hit.

VCP 100 or vcore 100...i added heavy wilson shockshield grip + head hydrosorb comfort and 2grams lead tape at 10/2, forgiveness of a 100 but also precision of a thin beamed control frame. The NXT might be painful in the ezone if you miss the sweetspot. 100 is the new 97 [emoji41]

The new Wilson Blade line is extremely arm friendly with the low flex rating!! I have a shoulder problems for years and have no pain playing with the Blade! It has a buttery feel that most modern racquets lack today!!

I've had the same issue lately with a racquet. I tried a ProKennex Ki Q+ Tour (300g), and it is great!! I went with the 300 so I could add some weight at 3&9, and it hit a way better ball than the 315g version. It is solid, precise, comfortable, and has good spin. The thin 19.5 beam makes it swing fast, and with a little lead on it, it's rock solid stable. Highly recommend it with 17g multi.
