Fritz the invisible man on TT

He just made the semis of a M1000 on clay and there is barely any mention of him. The only thread is about his stats on Topspin 2k25. In the results section @BeatlesFan acknowledges his win over Cerundolo but he's the only one. It's very weird that no one realizes this is one of the best performances of his career on clay.

I root for him, as I do for most the Americans. But…he frustrates me often by losing to players he shouldn’t, or going 3 tough sets and exhausting himself early in the tournament when he should have won in 2.

Madrid is his best chance for a clay title (outside of Houston), so hopefully he takes this opportunity: no Nadal, Djokovic, Alcaraz, or Sinner. Not often this will happen in the semis of a Masters 1000.

I was going to post about him but I didn’t want to be negative. I hate his game and he ruined my fantasy predictions for Madrid because of course he did. I backed him in Miami then he loses first round and then Madrid he makes semis on clay. One of my least favorite players to watch, moves like Bambi on ice, can’t stand looking at his technique. Anyway with how fast Madrid is this year let’s not lose our heads about this run

Agree. Not sure why everyone loves to dump on him. Dude is a gamer and fun to watch.

Yes @InsuranceMan his strokes are a bit ungainly due to how tall he is, but I hope you're not a Medvedev fan lol

When you have a stat of 89 on your backhand you are no invisible man. We are finally entering the Claylor era. What a great day for the eagle.

Ah yes, what an heroic run, beating Luciano Darderi, Sebastian Baez, Hubert Hurkacz and Francisco Cerundolo, only to lose to Andrey Rublev in semi finals.

The invisible man in general*, not only in TTW. He's a boring character, similar to Raonic, but more arrogant. In the 2k25 video he called himself "too hot" or somehting like that, when he's a giraffe-slenderman and looks very similar both in face and body to Raonic.

He's not discussed here because his game isn't that interesting and he has the personality of an empty yogurt container.

I could care less if he wins or loses any match.

Who is he? He does sound familiar.

Is he French? Is that a German name?

Has he been good for a while or is he just now starting to break through?

He's that player on tour that's notable more for his instagram model girlfriend that tours with him than his actual play on the courts which borders on Medvedev/Norrie unattractive style of tennis. He's also kind of slouchy and whiney looking.

Paul is the same guy as Fritz. He's even married to the same cloned woman as Fritz.
I can’t vouch for the bimbo, but Fritz is the whiny rich kid, and TP is the cold beer southern boy who keeps his head down. Name one thing TP has done remotely annoying as Fritz??? You can’t!!!

If having a blondy with a fake rack is a sin then let’s start with Pete and Andy

Simple: hideous strokes, no aesthetic value whatsoever to his game. I can't think of a player I enjoy watching less in that regard. Love that he can win so ugly, but much more interested in the beautiful game. He'll never really be on my radar.
Epic takedown of Fritz! :)

I can. He's asked what historical figure would he switch lives with and he chose a modern-day basketball player. I realize jocks are usually stupid (Taylor's a great example), but this is unbelievable. Credit to Casper for a solid answer.

Wow, that's a shocker of an answer. What a dullard.

I'm a Tommy Paul fan generally but I can name two things:
1) He showed up drunk for doubles match with Steve Johnson and they lost like 0/0 at the US Open (granted he was a teenager at the time) Johnson, who was the consummate pro during his career was visibly embarrassed about the entire thing.
2) Throwing Rajeev Ram under the bus on Twitter after Ram was left off the Davis Cup team and the US lost the doubles.

Agreed. He's dumb as a box of rocks, just try listening to him.

Granted he's not a uniquely charismatic figure, but he doesn't come off as particularly dim to me. Athletes are not necessarily intellectual powerhouses, but Fritz seems to have his gameplan hardwired and is able to describe it clearly in interviews.

He is just not that good...period
It's all relative, he's won a M1000 and has made the semis of a couple of others, not many players do that. It's hilarious to me when people say "X player who is top 20 in the world is not that good." Like the 4.0 guy on Redditt saying he could take a set off Nadal, it's crazy.

I saw him at WB last year. Whereas the other players; Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Jabeur, and others would sign and smile and engage with the fans, Fritz avoided all eye contact and was a misery. That hair cut is seriously hideous and he has the personality of a brick wall.
Privileged billionaire boy.
Not even his tennis appeals to me. He’s just beige and I have no interest.

Against a guy with a broken rib. He hasn’t managed to win a Masters against a healthy player. He would not have won that day otherwise

He lost the doubles (w/ Sock).
