Gel Res 8 back in stock?

I've tried to search for an answer to this with no sucess, so I'll just have to ask: Does anyone have a clue when the gel res 8 will be back in stock (in new colorways, I guess)? They're all out in Europe, at least, it seems. (Not counting the odd pair of unpopular size.)

Hey there, I too have been searching for this answer for quite some time - no luck quite yet in getting concrete info. What I have learned is that:

-ATP players are using the new colour ways so this would suggest it’s a matter of months for when they’ll be released widespread.
-You can buy the new ASICS Gel resolution 8’s from the UK on Amazon & Smashin as of today, in select sizes. They seem to sell out quickly so the supply is very limited. I keep struggling to find a UK size 10.
-ASICS Website very occasionally has restocks of the white & red model in the UK.
-Other than that, e*b*a*y still proves to get the odd find

Good luck and drop me a reply if you have any info or ideas on sourcing this model :)

Thanks for your reply! I live in Sweden, not sure how shopping from the UK works right now, but I'll check it out.

I found some sizes today on german Amazon, but they would charge me 377 euros - so that's a no go!

I also found some neutral women's colorways in size 9/42,5 on TWE, but supposedly they are more narrow in fit, so I'm hesitant to try.

I'll keep looking and keep you notified if I find something!

Yeah I’ve seen the same on Amazon - crazy prices! I’ve seen other listings that are from ‘ASICS’ as a seller and go for around £110.

Another strategy is dropping independent tennis & sports shops a call in Sweden, it may be a numbers game before you find one who has a spare box of your size & that can domestic ship! Although this method wasn’t successful for me in the UK, I reckon it could work :)

US shoe sizing.
In general women's shoes are size B versus D. IF you can confirm it is a D it should fit the same assuming the same EU size. We are talking about 5mm or so difference(B to D). You can normally get the width back by going up half a size, SO it depends on your foot. I would try your size and one size half up and pick the better fit. The other option is try other models of shoes or waiting a bit longer they will come back in stock right after you buy something else:)

I’m a UK size 10 - considering chancing getting a womens pair and seeing how I get on! What size would you recommend I go for?

Thanks for the tip. It has crossed my mind. I'll see if I'm up for the legwork. There's a few club shops here, and only one independent tennis shop in the entire country. I have two Gel res 8 left in rotation, so I'm not in full panic mode yet. But in a months time I will be!

However, I just checked smashinn and they had a few odd sizes (not my size) of the NEW colorway, so maybe they are on the way, finally?

What is your normal EU size? If buying womens shoes I would go up a half size if width is a concern. IF you have 5 mm to spare I would get same size. Basically try your eu size and one half size up and see if they fit. BE sure you can return the shoes if they don't. Personally I would wait or buy a slightly different shoe.

Mizuno Exceed Tour, Head Revolt Pro 4.0...There is a good thread with general shoe reviews which might help give more options. Buy a pair to last until the shipment full arrives. I think within 30 days you should be able to get a pair of Gel 8s.

Here in Canadaland I suspect we may have the world's supply of GR8s. It is fkn everywhere while it is desolate for other models.

Two local stores had Raptors for 1.5 weeks before half the sizes were gone. (Predictably I never got the chance to try them) But we still have last year's colorways still unsold for GR8s

I regularly play with a Canadian. I guess I should ask him if he's planning a trip home soon.

US size 9. :D Don't know width, it's never accounted for in Sweden, so I guess standard (D).
According to the asics page they offer a few wide (D) options in neutral kind of shades for womens and it will fit exactly as men's sizes. I just bought the lazuli colorway in wide and see if they fit the same.

Interesting. That's the colorway I was considering! Would be grateful for your opinion when you've tried them on.

Another colorway (light blue) has popped here and there. Estimated delivery in June, though. (The other one, dark with yellow heel could be here in April).

Since my two remaining Gel res are starting to feel real soft in the support system and bottomed out in the midsole (outsole is not the first to go on these, at least for me), and I'm playing almost everyday - at the age of 41 - I'm looking for alternatives:

Have anyone used the Barricade 2021 and could compare them to the Gel res 8? I'm most interested in how heavy they feel in comparison. And how cushioned? They are available here in many sizes, so I could order a pair to check out the fit. I just don't want a shoe that is too clunky (former Barricade user, 2015-2018). Thanks!

worn gr8 before and just got my barricades.

I have tried the Adidas in 12US and the Asics in 12US AND 11.5US 2E (wide). The first thing to note is that the adidas sizes under the tongue says 12US=11.5UK=46⅔EU which is ridiculous and the Asics say 12US=11UK=46.5EU. I don't know where in the europe you are but I did not find the UK size for the adidas to be precise.

In size 12US the Barricades and Resolutions run similar lengthwise. The Barricade is a tad longer since ⅔ > 0.5 so the Euro sizes are pretty accurate. It literally feels about 1/6th of a size longer, aka not much. The GR8 itself already runs a bit longer itself vs others I've tried (Cage 4, Vapor X, Ultrashot 2, Eclipsion 2) when comparing 12US size across the board.

Staying with size 12, I found the barricade toe box is a tad (we are talking like 1-2mm here) wider than the GR8, but the GR8's upper is also a "tad" stretchier than the Barricade uppers. Stretchiness also contributes to width/snugness.

Also contributing to the width is the thickness of the bootie: the Barricade has a thicker material for the bootie (which takes up space) but the GR8's half bootie, while thinner, is a more constricting elastic material. This means the thickness of the GR8 bootie takes up less space than the Barricade bootie, but still squeezes you because it gives a tighter, elastic, snugness.

The GR8 is lighter, feels faster, and "lower" but I literally just got the Barricades last week and have never played in them yet, so this impression is just from at home. This also means I can not comment on the cushioning too much either but the GR8 was more comfortable because the GR8 upper was a bit softer. Again I have not broken in the Barricades so who knows what it's like after a few hours.

Anyways overall more impressed with the GR8, but I also paid $40 less for the Barricades than I did the GR8s. The GR8 is better but not $40 better, although I would not have gotten the Barricades had I not found such a sick deal.

I was in the Tennis Point (******* Sports) store yesterday and they told me the Asics facility in Vietnam is shut down indefinitely due to a Covid outbreak. Apparently the workers live in dorms over there and Covid keeps spreading amongst their workers. They have no idea when the plant will reopen and think it could be several weeks.

I am glad I got five pairs in my closet as it should keep me going till the Fall. I bought three pairs last week (delivered in two days) on the big online website named after a river. Stock up when you can.

My two pairs should last me another month, I hope. I just ordered a pair of Barricades if there should be no more Gel res until June (or longer), though. Might as well buy them now, I figured, since they are one of the few models of decent tennis shoes available in my size in Europe. Soon they will be gone, too.

Thanks for the in-depth review, @d-quik !

Hopefully it works out man. Getting the right shoes is such a nightmare when you can not try them on physically.

Not sure if I'm more impressed with the size of the stash (5 pairs) or the fact that you found them on the riversite...

Yeah, I don't know how many shoes I've scrapped. I have flat feet and a tendency for plantar fasciitis, but the Gel Res 8s work great with my feet. The older Barricades were OK in that sense, but not as good a shoe overall. We'll see how they fit! Thanks again for the review. Write something when you have played in your Barricades, would be interesting to hear your opinion.

My plan B (or C...), by the way, is to start using my worn-out Gel reses but with my custom insoles. X-D Hate the elevated feel of the insoles, but maybe they will make up for some of the mushiness of the support and some cushioning.

This happened! I received my Barricades yesterday, broke them in for four hours (I actually like them) - and this morning there's plenty of Gel Res 8 available on TWE and other sites. :laughing:Two pairs are on their way.

The Barricade 2021 is a nice shoe. Really low to the ground in the front, resulting in a feeling of great stability. The same feeling gives me a good pivot point. The Gel res 8 is decidedly slimmer in the forefoot (except for the red-white L.E-edition which for some reason is wider). That is usually my only knock on the shoe.

My main knock on the Barricades is that it could have used another loop for the laces, to really push the heel back. I felt a bit jammed at front on my right foot at times.

I got GR8 clay from other sites in Canada.

No. At least I hope not! Was described as hard court that way but I haven't received them yet. No hurry in the moment, though. I almost feel I move a little bit better in the Barricades. :X3:And I like the cushioning, the all around comfort, actually.

Not going to be for a while sadly. I am going to wear out the crappy Slazenger Icons this spring before moving to the Mirage 300s or Blushield Flys in the summertime (depending if I want to suffer in the Lottos or enjoy myself in the Diadoras). I unwisely got a bunch of regrettable shoes so you don't have to. :-D

Is the front of the LE red/white/blue really wider in the forefoot? It's the only one I have, I love the fit and was looking at getting different colors. Asics and Adidas are the only brands I'll wear since I get a 40% off for Asics and 30% off for Adidas. So I basically exclusively where Adidas or Asics when it comes to clothing or shoes lol

If y'all didn't know, Asics website has 40% off discount for Healthcare, First Responders, and Military (20% off for Teachers and Students).
Adidas has 30% off for Military, Nurses, First Responders, Teachers, Medical Providers, and Seniors.

With my pair, it is wider, for sure. It's my sixt pair of GR8. All the other colors have been slimmer in the front. Width of the shoes are not accounted for in EU, so I don't know if they are wider by purpose or accident, so to speak.

Then I don't know if it is just my pair or all in that colorway.

There are variations in the feel of the different colors, and some wear out quicker. Worse was the all white, it went too soft too soon. While the confetti one was absoluty great, more rigid and firm in both the upper and midsole. Go figure!

Thanks. Not the best picture, but the colorways are nice IRL.

A small warning. The darker colorway (with the yellow heel) is actually larger than previous GR8s I've owned. A bit too much for me to be comfortable, as of yet. I've had around 6 pairs so far, so I am not imagining things. I have not started playing in the light blue version but I imagine they could be the same.

This bugs me, of course, like the bad QC on most racquet brands regarding specs. I remember when I was using Adidas and the clay court model was huge compared to the hard court version! Same model and size, different colorway.

Speaking of Adidas, another warning: my Barricades broke after 10 hours of use. One of the upper eyelets just came loose. This can happen, I have read, but didn't think it would happen to me, since I'm a gentle guy. :)

Great shoe in many ways but some bad design choices. I will get a full refund, however.

So the new (colorways of) GR8s are longer than prior seasons - and I am having a hard time playing in them. Especially my right foot, as it is smaller, is moving around and I am starting to feel the plantar fasciiatis.

Any tips on shoes with a similiar fit, ie narrow around the midfot, with arch support and good stability? Barricades is not an option, I am afraid (ser above).

How they could mess this up is beyond me. Someone reckoned people would have swollen feet from sitting at home during the pandemic? A cat jumped up on the keyboard and scaled up the sizing?

Thanks! I'll look into it and maybe drop him a line. He screamtalks a bit too much for my taste (and some views are bonkers, like creasing on the midsole means they are shot) but he sure has a lot of experience with shoes.

I've noticed new clay Challenger 13s about half size longer too! Getting toe jams now. They have the same outsole as the clay GR8s so maybe some factory change?

Exactly! I'm getting toe jams as well. But worse of all is the plantar acting up. The foot moves around and the elongated sole is too flat for a snug fit. Must be a factory change, or mistake, because why would they screw the consumer? Today I resorted to my personal orthotics, to avoid wasting so much money on unusable shoes, but I hate the feel with orthotics and instead my knees feel weird.

This change maybe something to be aware of, @TW Staff ? Itching to return the shoes but I'm giving the orthotics/insoles a try.

I see. This seems to be a new thing, though. The GR 8s from the fall season had the same size that they've had since the launch of the model.
