Gel Resolution 5s - Anyone Tried Them?

Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to try these yet? If so, what do you think? How are they different from the 4s? Thanks.

Better. Not as long and "pointy" toe, so they don't curl up like elf slippers. Better fit overall, IMO.

Wow! My GR4's aren't pointy looking and sure don't curl up like elf slippers.

What did you guys do, order three sizes too big?:)

I actually love the way mine look and definitely love how they play in.

I did follow Tennis Warehouse's advice and ordered a half size smaller than I usually wear and everything's great.

I'm not sure if I should order another pair of the fours or try the fives.

I see the fives must fit true to size as TW isn't advising to order a half size smaller than normal.

I'll probably stay with the fours as they remind me of the original GR1's in how comfortable they are and they actually seem a lot more stable than the 1's.

Elf slippers? Too funny............

currently i have the gel res 4's and was debating whether to order the 5's or try out the solution speed. i ended up getting the solution speeds, maybe a faster feeling shoe will suit me better. i will be checking to see how the 5's play to see if i made a mistake

I ordered a half size down and never had this elf condition. I was surprised the rubber upper that connects the mesh to the toe held up. I'm a slight tie-dragger, so I was worried I'd get a hole there. I'm about to send in my 4's. Maybe if I ask nice enough they'll send me some 5's.

I can relate to the elf condition and went half size down...however, GR4 are great shoes, I will buy them again :)

I wear a size 11 in every shoe, including my GR4s. When I tried on a 10.5 it was too small. I tried on the GR5 yesterday at the big store near Baltimore, and the size 11 fit just fine. I thought they looked cheaper than the GR4, but felt very similar. I'll probably buy the GR4s while they're still available.

The ship date is pushed back it Feb 1 for the GR5s. I found an old pair of GR2s I apparently had in the back of a closet, and they are in great shape. I will impatiently wait for the new hotness.

I ripped the upper stitching on my GR4s first wear when dragging my right. It's not too bad, but hoping will hold up for the next 30 hours or so to allow me to get through the outsole.

Other than that, love these shoes. Comfy, perfect grip and breathable among other good points.

Just got the fives and played today straight out of the box and they were great , comfy, good ventilation and great grip. Just wish my tennis matched the quality of the shoes :)

I have worn 2 versions of Asic Resolution but can't recall if they are 4 or 5. I had a black with some yellow and my current shoe is the mostly yellow with some black trim that I bought last year. These Asics were the best shoe I have worn in awhile. I have ordered 2 different pairs, a 4 and 5 as I can't make up mind on prefered color, my question is there diference in the 4 and the 5?

I tried the GR5s in "my" size (11)... and they were too narrow in the toe box for me.

The GR4s were much roomier in the toes....

But. Both GR4s and GR5s were a nice, neutral shoe with my heels even with the balls of my feet. And cushy.

Actually, the exact opposite is reality....the GR 5 is roomier in the toe box than the GR4. This is from personal experience, and reading the reviews from actual wearers here on TW.....

Well, that's not the case for my feet then...

I tried both on at the local tennis store, and the GR4s were roomier up front.
Guess I have weird feet!

I'm guessing your feet are narrow, in which case the *longer* GR4 toebox will feel roomier. The GR5s is slightly wider in the toebox as HCB says, but they do not fit as long overall as a shoe. With my medium width feet I'm an unusually small 11 in the 4s and my more usual 11.5 in the 5s.

BTW, who posted the pic of the simple all white with black logo GR5s? I can't seem to find it. They looked 10/10.

Anyhow, off to Indian Wells I go....:)

My current GR3 are great. I like the crazy color of the GR4 Noosa and ordered a pair in the same size but they were too tight (narrow) in toe box area. Now I'm back to drawing board. I had hoped there was a GR5 Noosa. I have ordered a Yonex Red 308, keeping my fingers crossed that fit is right but probably long shot. My last 2 shoes have been GR3 and the fit was as good as I have had but not wild about the other colors.

I loved the GR4. Then, picked up the GR5 in the same size. The fit was different. I think the shoe is a little taller, and the outsole is a little heavier. At first, I didnt like them. Then, I tried a half-size smaller and it made a big difference. I played in the smaller size tonight an it was fine. So now I've got a pair that is too large and one that is just right.

TW told me that Asics will come out with new colors for GR5 in June, TW said no photos available but said orange blake and black/orange. Anyone heard about this or have photos?

This. I also wear 11's in every shoe and bought GR4s in size 11 and they fit just fine and they play great. Plus in 25 years of marriage these are the first shoes I've ever bought that my wife said 'Oh, I LIKE those!' when she first saw them (the black ones with neon green trim) so I will definitely buy them again.

Just returned my gr4's that I got in january for warranty, got the black/blue gr5s today. i was a 10 in the 4, went with a 10.5 in the 5. Hope the 5s hold up a little better. I really liked the 4s, just wear out too quick.

-played 2.5 hrs in them right out of the box. I find them to feel more supportive than the 4s, very comfortable so far. Played hard and clay. Felt good on the clay, of course my 4s were pretty much slicks so anything would feel better traction wise.

I bought GR5 15 days ago. Prior to this i used GR3--probably my fav shoe ever.

I love the GR5 so far. Fit was a lil tighter than GR3.

My biggest issue is that every time i played with GR5, i developed Knee pain. It happened enough times that it isnt a coincidence. I am considering ordering a higher size (would they exchange--i ordered it from TW) OR may be try changing INSOLES and see if that helps. May be it goes away after some breaking.

I bought a pair of the closeout grey/orange GR4s, and both my wife and youngest daughter had the same reaction as your wife. I should have bought two pair of those, but bought another pair in white.

I had the gray/orange 4s and put in grey laces, made em look a lot less orangey.

On the 5s if anyone's following, played a lot in them between clinics and a tourney this weekend. I'm finding them more comfortable than the 4s and so far appear that they will hold up better in the soles. Feet feel good, I have narrow feet but feel that the wider toe box in the fives feels better. They also feel slightly lower in the heel area. I like em more than the 4s, but the 4s are a great deal right now at $80.

Do the Gel Res 5's have a truer fit? With the 4s you had to order a half size lower.

They fit true to size. They're pretty similar to the GR3s, though I would say that the GR5s feel slightly comfier and plusher. I wasn't too keen on the fit of the GR4s - they were slightly longer and narrower than the GR3s for some reason.

I think Asics have produced a great shoe again in the GR5s.

as I've posted in the "most cushioned shoes" thread, I'd tried the GR5s and the fit was excellent for med wide feet, shoes felt very comfy. But cushioning is priority 1 for me and felt they had decent heel cushioning but lacked forefoot cushioning. Ended up w/ a pair of Bab SFX which had superior cushioning front and back. Haven't the opportunity to use them on the courts yet...

I had worn GR3, GR4 and GR5. The GR5 is the best iteration by far.
Good job Asics. The most noticeable improvements are ankle support, breatheavility and cosmetics with attention to details.

My gr5s are less than a month old now, I've already worn a hole through the sole. Not sure what I'm doing weird with that foot, but that's where I keep getting holes, right foot just under the big toe. I've had surgery on that foot at that joint, so maybe I drag it weird or something.
Anyways, the gr5 has been about the most comfortable I've had so far. I'll keep using these until the hole grows a bit then swap em out. Great feeling shoes.

I think this really depends on your feet. The GR4 fitted my feet best. The GR5 is heavier and didn`t feel as supportive on my feet.

Probably, I've narrow feet, so the toe area feels roomier, but never uncomfortable. In fact, I'm getting great ventilation because of that. Again, the support on the GR5 is great in my experience.

To clarify, the GR 4 is longer and more tapered in the toe area, therefore what you are referring to as "roomier" in the toes by being longer in length. By roomier in the toe box, I mean the GR 5 is rounder and more roomy in the WIDTH in the toe box area than the GR 4.
