Great thread on Goffin.
This guy is just amazing. the new Ferrer.
under 6 ft, and slaying everyone in sight.
forgive me for not reading every single post made in this thread.
but lets just try and understand what equipment he is using.
so question 1.. is he using a full bed of Alu? or is there gut mains. because there are some pics where it looks like u can see some fraying of the mains.. but that may be an optical illusion.
question 2. what grip size is he using. .
and q 3. weight and balance. do we think hes using 3pt hl 11.3 oz stock specs. ?? thanks

1) Full Alu, 22/21 kg, I've met him at a meet and greet with Q&A at the Luxilon Headquarters (Belgium).
2) No clue
3) Stock blade without customising.

Indeed, he is the only one in the ATP top 100, while we have one of the best customisationers in the world in Belgium (DC Customising).

Dieter Calle? Can't imagine Goffin never tried to adjust his specs though. Must have a good reason for not changing them

Without measured specs it makes me doubt he plays a stock frame, after all what version is he playing stock?

A nBlade at around 340sw? A BLX around 335sw? A KBlade around 325sw? One from Wilson's Pro Room that hand picked at some other spec?

Plenty others in the top 100 have been claimed to play a unmodified frame and most of them I have my doubts about, but no evidence.

That’s a good point. Not that I doubt any posters here saying he’s Stick. But let’s get the measurements

Any idea if that is at retail specs or perhaps his prostock comes from Wilson differently.
no clue I just saw a thread a while ago about it when someone said it had a k factor grip, and then I saw pictures of him using a blade:

I've heard Goffin, Kachanov, and possibly Mannarino? play with stock frames.

I've hit with Kyrgios frames, they are stock yonex with a leather grip.

I've read that as well, but aside from possibly Mannarino they play with paintjobs. If Kachanov plays with a H22 or Kyrgios plays with a Xi98 that is not modified to match other frames in his bag but came from a manufacturers pro room that were measured and picked for their specific specs then to me it doesn't really mean stock. I guess it is a stock prostock but not stock retail so without baseline prostock specs that still leaves it a question mark.

yeah I'm sure they came from a pro room (Kyrgios) but there was no lead visible and I've hit with the xi98 and the new model - ver similar feel, easy to swing especially with a leather grip. Perhaps the stiffness is different too, I can't tell just from hitting as the yonex dr in general is pretty soft.

No lead though, anywhere under the bumper which is what is surprising/trending with young players.

I don't know but I have a hunch sock doesn't use lead anywhere above the handle either, making his frame very similar to a stock vs tour

Have the mold of the blades actually changed over the years? Didn't know that.
I used to own at least one copy of every 98 18x20 Blade from the NBlade to the current CV one--I currently use the ltd. edition CV 18x20. Now I only have 3 of those and 1 beat up Nblade, so I can't really make an honest comparison across all models Wilson has produced. I will say, however, that since the 2015 version, the spacing in the string pattern of the Blade has changed slightly, and the throat of the blade is slightly (and I do mean slightly) more rounded in shape, whereas the NBlade, and the KBlade if I'm not mistaken, have more distinctly sharp edges.

Someone bring me up to speed.. Why is it so unbelievably hard to believe he's using a stock racquet? I had a friend in med school who used to be hitting partners with Isner and did just fine with a pair of old radicals that he bought retail way back when. Point is, I'm not sure it's so crazy to think that pros may use the retail spec for racquets (if the purchased racquet does end up with retail specs...), and ultimately, personal preference and familiarity likely reign supreme. Sure, most of them seem to weight up thier racquets, but I'm sure there are pros who are more than happy with a retail spec that they are accustomed to. Just saying...

Praying I don't get lynched for this opinion..

It just depends on what the retail specs are. I don’t know what your friend old radicals are but I have a few that are 340-350 swingweight which would be fine.

Historically people that have a playing style like his use heavier stabile frames.

I was trying to imply the retail spec as designated by the manufacturer. I know it seldom ends up like that, but my main point still stands that you don't necessarily need a higher sw racquet. My friend likes his racquets relatively on the lighter side, but has never paid careful attention to specs. Not to say that pros are like that, just saying you can take an Isner serve with a lighter racquet depending on who is using it. Maybe it's easier with a more stable racquet, but if it works, it works.

I personally like my racquets heavier, but once again, personal preference and familiarity.

Is it so hard to believe that he plays an older version of the blade in stock form? Stock means uncustomized for him, not that he’s getting new rackets from the TW shelf or something like that.

No, I know that he does, stock means indeed uncustomized :).
